Any Good Inspector/Dog/Exterminator in Arkansas?
(7 posts)-
I was reading this news Stricken just posted:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/11/health/11patient.html?partner=rss&emc=rssand suddenly realized how little people in Arkansas (well, at least in Fayetteville, NW AR) know about them. It worries me since if I happen to have another meeting with these bugs, I still have to find someone to deal with it for my next lease would be 1 year and even established properties here do not seem to have a contract with professional pest control companies. Instead, the pco they hire tend to be some "pest control guy", which is true for my next apartment (completely new furnished with completely new furniture).
Even though I would finally be able to sleep on a real mattress and bed, the fear that it would inevitable to get them from the university or someone is still lingering. To tell the true, my former roommate in that infested unit seems to be still living normally, and the landlord is still renting it.
Doug has been very helpful on this matter but there seems to be not a very large number of inspectors, dogs or exterminators here in Northwest Arkansas. Could anyone share his/her experience?
I just want to have a normal life.
Thank you.

Dude I am tripping out because I am in Fayetteville AR I just moved out of my apartment and before moving grabbed some boxes by the dumpster and may have the bugs. Definitely have the bites.
I have not seen one and the mattress has been torn apart. And removed from my home even though they say not to do that.
I need to speak with you about this because I am freaking the heck out here. -
Bullhaulr, I am sorry to hear that you might have it since I've been (or is going through still) it. The issue for me is that despite every action I take (vaseline around the air mattress on the bed frame, passive monitor under the frame and chair, double side tape above0 to isolate my bed in the new apartment I'm getting (bb like)bites in the new apartment while having no sign of them.
However, it seems like it would best to catch a specimen before the treatment. I have several photos of them in the previous apartment so I know they are bbs. And one of the reason I feel so miserable right now is that I do not know what these bites are.
Nonetheless, are you a student of the University of AR? If so and the infestation is true there more things to worry about (even in the university) then...and you could go to the Pat Walker Health Center. The doctor there might be able to identify whether they are bug bites, though it would be hard to tell what caused them.
And just for precaution, before you leave for anywhere, take a shower and put on clothes dried on high in the drier (for ANOTHER half an hour or so AFTER they are totally dried) in a seal plastic bag, and wear some shoes you feel comfortable to treat (I pour boiling water on my clogs) and leave immediately.

Hi, Bullhaulr, how's your night? Have a good sleep?

Hi thank you for calling. Unfortunately after being careful to sleep in a bed that has two sided tape around the legs and mattress, my covers fell to the floor for a short period of time and guess what? Well I got up to go to the bathroom and found one that got stuck to my back.
It must not have had time to take a good bite because I never got a welt, but the carcass is that of a BB. It's not a full grown BB but not a nymph either. It left a perfect imprint of a bedbug on the sheet.
I am not getting bitten when I sleep with covers that do not touch the floor. I am still praying that i don't have an infestation and that no females made it here. Possibly a molted adult shell was in the airconditioning vent, but after fruitless searches I can find no traces of BB and at night I wake up periodically and no BB to be found. But I for sure had at least one. How many more? I have double sided tape in several areas and they have yielded 0. What should I do about treatment, because most exterminators around here are not into BB.How are you? I hope that you are healing.

Maybe you could take some pictures and ask the professionals on the website to confirm they are bb carcass first? And remember not to squash/throw away every evidence you find for you might show it to the exterminator or get it identified. Do not put anything on to the bed, not even yourself unless you are going to sleep, and maybe replace the tape and put vaselines around their legs too would help.
As for me, the pimples on my back sort of spread and even hurt sometimes yet no signs, and I sort of felt something crawling on me like two days ago again, when I finally decided to put my leg down the chair (which was uncomfortable) and on the floor...
Sigh, and I'll be moving again next month, since it's a summer lease...
