Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Tales of Bed Bug Woe
And so it begins

Hey everyone,
Just thought I'd share my bedbug story-in-progress since this site and its forums has offered me so much useful information.
3 weeks ago, I moved from San Francisco into an apartment building near downtown Seattle with over 100 units in it. One night, after a week of sleeping in a sleeping bag on the floor (yeah, I know, STUPID), I got about 50 bites scattered over both of my arms. Needless to say, I freaked out and bought a bunch of insecticide and sprayed up my apartment floors. I did my research (which led me here) and later confirmed that I indeed have bed bugs after a caught a live one.
Luckily, the cheap Ikea couch I ordered came in the next day and I've since then been sleeping in that (after putting the legs in plastic tupperware). My mattress and box spring also came in soon after, and they are still sitting in my living room with the original plastic wrapping on. I've ordered some encasements for them which are still on the way.
Two days ago, the PCO who specializes in bed bugs finally came in and did their thing to the apartment. Up to then, I was still getting about 6 new bites every night, but mostly aimed onto my legs now (which is more of a relief because I react pretty harshly to the bites and they look hideous on me). I suspect they have been getting to me through my clothes because I haven't been vigilant about bagging my clothes yet. He's scheduled 3 more appointments with me in 2 week intervals and I hope I'll have rid of them from my place by then. I caught a big sucker this morning in the trash can, but when I went to check on it just now, it looked as if it had just exploded (which is a good thing since I guess that means the treatment is working). I also didn't get any new bites last night, but I've been finding more live ones on the walls since.
I've got a 10 month lease here and after all the treatments are over, I'm hoping the bed bugs will at least stay out of my apartment with the proper defenses in place. I'm planning on living out of bags and getting some caulk and DE later this week.
Hopefully I'll be able to manage these bed bugs soon, and I'll keep you all posted on what I do and how it works.
