Well it looks like the Nightwatch is finally seeing the light of day. I am sitting here in my office looking at it and reading through the manual. I hope to test it out next week and let you know how it goes. "Have Nightwatch will travel"

Finally! I can't wait for your report Winston. I love the new products hitting the shelves. Anything to make our jobs more effective and put peoples minds at ease. I'll be keeping an eye out.

How are you cleaning the unit between clients? Not the traps, but the actual unit.

I was wondering more of in the "electronic guts" area? What is your overall feeling on the units? Any ideas about placing the unit ON the bed?

You have to check w/ the pco s in your area that was the idea behind the they should rent for 75 - 120 for a week or 180- 250 for the month depending on your area thaat is if anyone in your area is renting them

I live in an area with no BB Dogs and am uncertain if I have an issue: some mystery bites, nothing else (& I have been REALLY looking!). Do you think that the Nightwatch would be a good tool to, for instance, leave in my guest room or downstairs near the sofa? These are areas that seldom has a body sleeping in them. Without a dog, I am not sure how long it will take to find some good evidence.

    Mucho,

You might try contacting PCOs about renting one. Buying one is costly and would be overkill if it turns out not to be a bed bug problem.

    Nobugsonme,

I would not mind renting, but I live out in the boonies...I mean in "Real America" so it is not likely that these guys know what a Nightwatch is. None of the 4 PCO's I talked to had heard of a Packtite or Climbup interceptors. Two had no real knowledge of bed encasements. After "interviewing" all four, I can honestly say that if I have an issue I am in deep trouble (In addition to giving me questionable answers, one guy told me that he had been treating BB's for 17 YEARS! Hmmmm).

One other concern with renting: How are these things cleaned between uses? I would hate to bring a "monitor" into my "clean" house and be infected by it. Plus, $200/ month ain't cheap. That is nearly 1/3 of the overall cost.

    Mucho-

That cleaning issue was something I had as well, and I bought mine new. I took it apart as much as I could, inspected, blasted air where I couldn't get to, and wiped the unit with 91% Al.

OK, I see that a unit can be had for a little less than $500. Right now I am on the fence. Somebody give me a push..

    Pros:
    a) Can help to positively ID a BB problem faster than just looking out.
    b) Can give you better confidence that you have eliminated a problem.
These are very important for people who do not react to bites &/or in a large house that does not have a lot of people sleeping in it.

    Cons:
    a) High start up cost: $500 for the unit + four lures (each good for about a week).
    b) Cost you every time you run it (CO2, lures): Additional lures are about $8 each and you have to buy your own CO2 at $XX.xx/ week.

Right now I am not so concerned with the cost. I have pissed away $500 in one weekend out partying and had nothing to show for it. I am willing to pay, but I do not want to waste my money. Little help?

I took the overwhelming silence to mean GO FOR IT! I took the plunge! I ordered a Nightwatch today from Do It Yourself Pest Control, Inc. It was $450 with free shipping. I am hoping to get it next week.

It may be overkill, but I plan to use it to monitor my current situation as well as a way to check after a guest has stayed over. Plus, as everyone who knows me will attest, I am a sucker for electronic gadgets. Thanks everyone for your, um, help.
