Advice: want a new bed, but worried about bringing in bedbugs
(3 posts)-
It's time for me to get a new mattress, but I'm afraid to do so because I'm afraid that I might bring in bedbugs. Obviously I would buy a new bed, but I'm worried that it is transported in a moving truck, and that truck probably picks up and drops off other beds, and it just seems risky.
Does anyone have any suggestions? How have you all handled getting new mattresses?

I've been mulling over the same thing...I'm going to check with the retailer to see what their policies are regarding delivery and returns. I wouldn't want to take a chance on a mattress that had been returned by another customer. I know that most major retailers have discontinued the practice of picking up the used mattresses in the same truck as the deliveries probably because of the problem. When it arrives I will immediately encase it in a bb proof cover especially the box spring. I will definately buy from a major retailer who will stand behind the purchase if there are any problems.

We are going through the same thing and aren't sure what to do. We bought a cheaper mattress several years ago and it has got to go! Interesting point about that purchase -- we specifically bought it from the mattress store that only delivered new mattresses and did not pick-up/carry away any old ones. When the delivery men got to our house, however, they said "sure, we take 'em all. We can use them or sell them..." and they took our old mattress (no BB's) away in the same truck. Yikes :{
