Advice for moving back (and how fast an infestation takes!)(1 post)
Firstly, can I say the community here and the posters are brilliant, I have found out so much so far! Basically I recently moved to Toronto, Canada from the UK, and I'm from a place where bed bugs aren't really heard of! I heard about bed bugs, and my worry has snowballed since I've been in Toronto, which has been for almost 2 months now =(. I stayed in a hotel in my first 2 weeks, and wasn't as clued up as I am now.
Now I feel I can be cautious, but a few days after moving into my new place I noticed that I was getting the odd small bump on my right arm, and I've since had one or two on other parts of my body. I have been in the sun and I have been sweating a lot while it's been really hot in Toronto (particularly in bed). I've only had several, and I'm used to getting spots anyway as I've always got a lot of them on my face, but I've never really noticed whether I've had them on the underside of my arm or not! One of them is really bad, but I'm not sure if it was because of a bite or because I kind of tried to squeeze it and then made a mess of it!
NONE of these spots have been itchy though, and when I weigh up everything in my head, unless I already have them, it's not exactly odds on that I'll get them, and I'll be unlucky if I do (especially since I know how to be cautious of them). I did (by chance, wasn't even looking) find a little larvae insect on my matress last week which looks like it's hairy. I know it's not a BB
1. Say that I do have the bed bugs already, since it's summer time and their metabolism grows, how quickly would an infestation grow? I've checked my mattress, my sheets, my pillows and my box spring and I can't see any glaring signs of bed bugs! I've only had one blood stain on my pillow, which was tiny and wasn't smudged, and I had a spot on my head that I squeezed before then, so it would be illogical to rule that out (I also washed my sheets in hot water and it came straight out, I read somewhere that it was better to wash out bed bug stains in cold water!). Since then I've not seen anything else anywhere on my bed to suggest I have bed bugs. Like, for example, say I got this bump about a month and a half ago, and it's been mega hot the past few weeks in Toronto, would it be common to have seen some more obvious signs of bed bugs by now? Like more bites more frequently and fecal stains on the sheets?
2. Are fecal stains on the bed or the sheets a massively common sign? Or can you have a small infestation without actually seeing this?
2. So part of the reason I'm paranoid is that I'm just a traveler and I'm here until the end of August, although I do have a slight fear of them, most of my fear is to do with actually bringing them home and getting them in my parent's home =( It's really my worst nightmare, as I'd hate to take it there. Whether I have them or not, I want to be sure I'm not going to take them back, so what cautions should I take when packing my stuff to go home? I want to know in advance so I can be well prepared!
I've enjoyed Toronto, but the bed bug thing is stressing me out a lot at times, and it's really effecting me now =( Also, I live in the upstairs of a detached house, and it's near High Park in Toronto, and I've seen spiders outside my window and my housemate killed a centipede last week. I know that centipedes are predators when it comes to BBs, so will being so close to a park with all of these predators prevent my chances? Just a thought! =)
