advice- bedbugs only found in bathroom so far
(16 posts)-
found three adults this morning. one in tub, two scuttling on floor.
first sighting.
no symptoms at all thus far.
sounds like anomalous to their usual behavior.
definitely bb's, though.
since bathroom, possibly bb traffic from neighbor? -
Yes--make sure your landlord or building management knows that this is highly unusual and that it suggests they may have migrated. (A PCO should be able to help back that up.)
They may also be bird bugs or bat bugs (or even bugs feeding on mice or a rat) (same as bed bugs, look nearly identical to a non-entomologist, but they come via these other animals). So check the window and anywhere (like a pipe) leading to somewhere any of these animals could have been nesting previously. The animal leaves, the bugs come looking for you.
Another possibility is they came into your home on something brought into the bathroom.

I had them in the bathroom in both my sink and tub, so they did a lot of traveling to get there!
-
bbb did they get lost? why would they go there after eating? strange. unless they came from there and then onto yuo?
dom - call the pco immediately and get treatment and dont forget to do the prior teatment requirements. good you caught it . hopefully this is early.

Nightshirt-
Don't think I had a particularly smart batch. LOL It was like they were asking to die! (And yes, I obliged.) I don't know why they'd be there since I didn't spend large amounts of time there, but who knows. Maybe they just liked the color scheme!-Blow

so, the correct protocol would be to immediately urge my apartment's management company to hire a pco to assess all of the building's units, yes?
i'm sure i could find this in one of the faq, but hearing advice feedback from actual people is comforting. -
Yes. Sooner the better. You may not be having a reaction to them.
-
and if that response is slow - get yourself a pco and start the treatments immediately. if landlord is responsible for payment, then get reimbursed. but save one in a baggis for the pco and start treatment now.

Just make sure it is a good zipper baggie, I double bagged mine just incase! I still have the first one I caught, the second one went to the PCO. Even though it is double ziploc bagged... IT IS STILL ALIVE! I am glad I kept those that I found because my PCO did not find any evidence whatsoever! And he says that he was surprised because I said I had been getting bit since April 11. The two I found are not adults... I have yet to see any others... or any signs of their existance. I first discovered one Tue June 5. The PCO came in on Fri. June 8 and I have not been bitten since Wed. June 6. This means nothing yet... still getting a follow-up treatment. Landlord is paying, but I may just go ahead after this first round is up to get an extra cycle of treatment that I will pay for.

I also had bb's I the bathroom--I my case it was in an effort to soak them out of all of my clothing. I had no idea at that time I should have put the clothing into a plastic bag first--before traversing anywhere with them. And ... they actually did climb out of the tub over night or out of the soaking clothing I had dripping OVER the tub and they molted--possibly due to the hot water," DUNNO. However, their dried, flattened grayish cast skins were all over the br floor--all headed back in towards thae bed room rug.
(Maybe it was 40 cast skins or so--half i tnhi i killed in hot watr soaks--which from that point on were hotter nd lasted much much longer than one hour.)Best to take the mto taudnry i na plastic bag--at the time I had no cash! then they were in the tub and in the sink too! They also might have come from downturns neighbor--so I am saying for many reasons bed bud bugs do go in the bathroom. But typically, they don't.
If the BR s white--and most are they are easier to see and kill in there. If you have a contact kill--go in there at 4am, turn the lights on, and surprise them! Kill as many as you can and do this nightly!
Also as always, call the PCO. -
FORTY molted skins? Wow.

I have read that bed bugs have been found in bathrooms and it has later determined that they traveled along pipes from one apartment to another. That's why they came through the bathroom in those cases. It is highly likely this is what happened if you find bed bugs in the bathroom, because they are much more likely to stay near your bed or sofa.
The bird/bat/mouse/rat factor is an issue, since bird bugs (et al.) can come via windows into any room. Look for nests.

Thinking back, I think i first noticed them in the bathroom. Every morning I would see a strange bug crawling up the shower curtain or in the tub and would just kill it. If I knew then what I know now....

bbinbkn: how long ago were these early sightings? How many weeks ago? How many months ago?
This is good for us to know and for you to know that a healthy female bed bug--let unheeded will lay abut 20--35 bug-eggs each month. -
ugh.
not sure when it started. I would say when the weather started getting warm and I just assumed they were a warm weather bug. I had them for a few weeks in the bathroom before I started getting bit. It was kinda my morning ritual, wake, go to the bathroom, kill bug, shower. I also saw one crawling up my bedroom wall, which I also killed. Again, with in the past 6 weeks or so. These were big enough for me to see and kill. not sure if they were bed bugs or not as I did not take the time to inspect and try to identify them as I had no bites yet, I did not suspect bed begs, though I think they are given my experience. -
that is how i think i got them too. from inside the building but dont know for sure b/c i had a bathroom renovation and they opened the walls to the beams but it could also have been the workers who brought them in. i waited too (really not waited but shocked into doing nothing until i did my research on the internet and confirmed and confirmed thats what it was) so about 3 weeks lapsed from initial bites to action. did that give them a chance to multiply - dont know but probably. after treating with a BAD pco the first 5 weeks got the real deal and within another 2 months was ok.
it is an ordeal but having waited b/c you did not undrestand is not the end of the world. it does not mean that you are uncontrollably infested and things are hopless. not the case at all.
