6 Months.....Please Help!!
(8 posts)-
My daughter was here a few hours last thanksgiving, not knowing she had a bedbug infestation and a few days later i started getting red almost pimple like bumps on my legs, arms and belly, but not many. Most of them were single bumps with an occassional set of 2-3 close together. As time went on they went away with more showing up, but i never had alot at one time. I would notice them mostly bacause of a slight twinging itch. I called Terminix in January, they did and inspection, found no bugs but did find a spot or two what they thought might be a blood smear on the sheet. They did a freeze treament on the bed and the livingroom furniture, incased my mattress and box springs and sprayed my entire house. The red bumps stopped appearing for 2-3 weeks then started reappearing slowly at a more numerous rate. They range in size from a small pimple to a larger misquito like welt. The itch from them is very minimal. Monday this past week I went to crawl in bed and found a dead bug under the covers. It was about maybe 1/8" long, dark brown in color, more oval shaped then round with fairly long antennas but couldn't see any legs. I also found a bug crawling on me while sitting in the livingroom chair late one night about 2 weeks ago. I quickly killed it thinking it was an ant. Terminix came Thursday, they didn't do an inspection, just took both bugs and sprayed the whole house again. Friday they called and told me the BUG was an ant. I questioned if both bugs were ants and they said yes. I don't believe them about the one in my bed! It DID NOT look like no ant I ever seen before and do ants have fairly long antennas? This morning (Saturday) I woke up with a black pepper like speck next to me on my sheet, I went to brush it off and it smeared a black streak on my sheet. Terminix is telling me it's not bedbugs because the spray they did would have caused the bugs to come out of hiding and I would have been seeing dead bugs and we are not seeing anything. PLEASE if somebody could help I would greatly appreciate it!!

Hi,
If you can post some pictures of either the bugs or the marks on the sheets we can offer an opinion but rarely is a description accurate enough to be of much help.
Once posted we should be able to help.

I hope this works. Here are somes pics of what I was describing.
The first one is an old spot that Terminix believed to be a blood spot from a bedbug, (January)
The second is the smear from the black pepper like speck found this morning.
The third is a picture of the bug I found in my bed this Monday (on right) the one on the left is something I found in my bed a few weeks ago. Didn't know what it was but saved it just in case.
The forth is the same bug I found in my bed this Monday by itself.
I'm sorry the pics are not real good but I hope well enough to at least take an educated guess. -
the pictures are too distant/out of focus. Can you retake/repost them?

No I can't retake them. The exterminator took them with him. I should have tried to get better pics I'm kicking myself now! I know the one that was in the bed was not an ant, which is the one here in the pic. I am wondering if they may have lost that one or just didn't look at it. Both bugs were in seperate bags. I am so disgusted I now have 2 sets of 3 bites that I found on my chest. The outer portion of my upper left arm has several bites, to many to count. It's summer and I am ashamed to wear tank tops or short sleeves. I also have some on my legs, wrist, and back but these ones are not as numerous. I'm not sure but think I may have 2 single ones on my face but I picked at them before I got to look at them. Im not prone to getting pimples so not sure what to think about them. I just wish this would stop it's driving me crazy for the last 6 months. I so scared of carring these things with me into someones home which is how they would have gotten here. Does anybody have any suggestions at all?

Does anybody have any suggestions at all?I know what you are feeling and it is very frustrating. You are welcome to try some DIY methods. The DIY methods I am going to suggest most likely won't resolve the problem but it will helpl you manage the BBs and hopefully have less bites.
You can cover your mattress in a plastic bed cover
You can caulk all openings in baseboards/doorways/ect...
You can use DE powder in cracks, along baseboards, under mattresses and in other areas the BBs may be hiding. These methods are inexpensive an can be effective in managing your infestation.
About you photos:
Sorry that your PCO took the evidence. I have posted some pics of a BB I caught recently on my y page. They are not the best photos but if you would like you could have a look at the and determine for yourself if the bugs you caught are identical.Good Luck!

Thanks for the suggestions Fed-up, I greatly appreciate it! You mentioned pics and being on your Y page, how do I get to that? Also, do you know where I could buy DE locally?
I do have my mattress and box springs already incased from the treatment back in January. Once your bed is incased is it less likely for the bb's to nest there? Is this the reason that I haven't found no real evidence? I have thought about caulking everything up but wouldn't that just drive them deeper into the house and spread them until they find another escape? I'm so confused I don't know what to do! I feel like nobody believes me about these bites and they just keep getting worse and they itch more and more.
The PCO tells me I have no bugs or I would have seen them by now. Is this true, it's been nearly 7 months? This is driving me crazy and in turn I think the PCO is getting disgusted with me.
I've been to the dermaologist several times. She has no idea what it is and put me on a few different meds and creams and NOTHING has helped. She even did biopsies and said it was either bites or an allergic reaction to something. I've went to all allergy free laundry soap, bath soap, and lotions. I must have $300 if not more in dermatology fees on top of the PCO treament and electric bills.
My husband is unsupportive in all this because he is not getting bitten. I have to this totally on my own and when he is not around or he gets upset with me.
I'm calling the PCO again tomorrow and asking if they examined both bugs they took with them last Thursday. I will agree that the one may be an ant, but the one I found in my bed definitely was not an ant!

Please read our FAQs about bed bugs.
I know Fed up is trying to help, but I would not recommend DIY treatment for most people. IF it is the only option, I would not do it without first confirming the problem and doing your research on methods.
We have resources which can help but in my experience, when it comes to telling someone how to do bed bug treatment, "less is not more." And treating without a confirmation is not smart. There is a FAQ which can help you with detection, so you can find more samples.
It seems like most of the photos people post for ID are not bed bugs. So you may be finding other bugs.
