30 Rock - Bed Bugs Reference
(8 posts)-
Obviously 30 Rock is a sitcom, and the reference was out in left field/not totally accurate, but it was a mainstream reference. Definitely not informational, but I enjoyed it.
(Jack Donaghy is being discriminated because he is said to have bed bugs)

I loved it! It may not have been factually airtight, but the take-home messages (that anyone can get a bedbug infestation; that the social stigma attached to having bedbugs is hurtful, irrational, and unfair; and how much your perspective can change after dealing with an infestation) were spot-on and a great boon to the bedbug crusade.

**a great boon to the bedbug AWARENESS crusade, I meant. (I don't think the bedbugs need any help in THEIR crusade.)

Last week there was a BB reference on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

I was quite tickled to hear the bed bug references last night on 30 Rock and found it quite a coincidence as I actually joked with Tina Fey about catching bed bugs in the Ed Sullivan Theatre green room last month. I ran into her as she was on her way to David Letterman and told her to be careful of the green room after Mary Louise Parker openly admitted to Dave of her battle with the dreaded bugs. I wonder how much of the writing or creative input she has on 30 Rock. Fun episode at any rate.

I posted about this on the blog today -- and the It's Always Sunny bed bugs too. A reader tipped me off in an email but I was waiting for hulu to pick them both up...

FYI - bed bugs have also featured on the King of Queens (click bed bugs on tv in the tags to see discussion and links to the entire show).

I never watch "30 Rock" and just happened to catch it last night. As soon as I saw Jack scratch, I knew what was going on. I think it was great to see how people reacted to him when he said he had bed bugs. Some of us have run into that.
The show was a great way to educate people and I somehow sense one of the writers actually had bedbugs. The scene in the subway was just too dead-on emotionally accurate. I don't think a writer who hasn't gone through it would have taken the scene that far. It seemed to be written from the inside looking out, not just written because it was a trendy topic.
