On the subject of the EPA, have you seen their homepage recently?

    http://www.epa.gov/

The banner roles over between 4 images. Take a look at the third one. If that's a bedbug, so am I!

It's a kind of shield bug, but I'm not sure which one. It was tagged on istock photo as a bed bug and nobody bothers to check.

Here are a few other websites that have made the same mistake and should really know better:

    bedbugsremovalfaq.com/
    aikenstandard.com/Local/0824-Bed-bugs
    simplepestcontrol.com/bed-bug-control.htm
    manchester-pest-removal.co.uk/bed-bugs.htm

Thanks, Richard -- I had read the press release but did not see the main site's banners.

Check out this Bedbugger post on the EPA grants -- at the end, I drew attention to the banners and credited you for the find (I hope you don't mind!)

I realize the person assembling these banners is not an expert on bed bugs, but it seems odd that no one at the EPA is monitoring their content (I assume the banner's been up since the grants were announced last Wednesday).

If no one at the EPA who has landed on their main page in the last week noticed these aren't bed bugs, perhaps the need for education is much greater than we thought. (Echoes of the cobbler's children having no shoes...)

    Thanks Nobugs,

That's fine by me. I wonder if we should tell them?

I would not be a bit surprised if EPA officials have looked right at that pic and not known the difference. It really drives to the heart of the problem. Unbearable irony.

And did I read it correctly, that 5 different agencies are splitting up $500,000? huh? Won't that be gone in a day?

This all seems so hopeless to me.

    Hi Richard!

The banner is down today. I sent an email and I suspect others did as well.
