Thanks Nobugs! My sister does not know how she got them - she did not travel. We speculate that it came from her work office or a movie theater as she goes often. The PCO stated that the bugs he saw at my sister's home were young and that it was not bad yet.
So far my mom is not infected. No bites, no signs and she has been inspected. When over at my mom's I sat in the dining room and on the sofa. Did not leave anything at her house.
Thanks for the info and the great site! I appreciate it!

1. What is my exposure risk? Should I be washing my entire wardrobe? Spraying chemicals? Caulking cracks? Dry cleaning coats? I have no bites or reason to believe my home is infected (at this time).

It is hard to know. We don't know how serious her case is. You have at least some risk of exposure.
Do you know your mom was infested? How did you spend time in her home? Where did you sit? Did you leave your stuff? Where? Did she come to your home? etc.

How did your sister get them? If they just appeared and she did not know where they came from, she may have had them much longer. Some people do not react to bites for a time and then start reacting. Longer infestation means more chances to catch them.

What else can you tell us?

2. I heard that movie theaters are infected too. What are they doing to help reduce the spread?

Impossible to generalize. It would be great to ask some cinema managers.

You can minimize the risk by inspecting the seat carefully with a flashlight (embarrassing? kinda) and by not bringing bags, coats, etc. Doesn't work so well in winter, though...

3. What is the city doing to help prevent the spread?

NYC? Nothing much yet. There's a bed bug advisory board which is going to make recommendations (hopefully soon) and then I expect much more.

4. My mom's house was sprayed with a non-toxic and oderless liquid that the PCO said was good for 30 days. He did not give her the name of it, would you know what that may be? He said it was also used to prevent roaches. Sound familiar?

Could be lots of things. Do you know which PCO? If it was a licensed PCO, they need to leave a list of products applied (with you or with super if you're renting). Your mom should have access to that. Ask.

Others may have additional input.

Hi !
My sister recently found out she has bed bugs and suffered from bites without knowing what they were for about 2.5 weeks.
While I was never in her apartment during that time, I was at my mothers where my sister was every day during her 2.5 weeks of bites. And my sister was in my car a few times during that time.
A few questions -

1. What is my exposure risk? Should I be washing my entire wardrobe? Spraying chemicals? Caulking cracks? Dry cleaning coats? I have no bites or reason to believe my home is infected (at this time).
2. I heard that movie theaters are infected too. What are they doing to help reduce the spread?
3. What is the city doing to help prevent the spread?
4. My mom's house was sprayed with a non-toxic and oderless liquid that the PCO said was good for 30 days. He did not give her the name of it, would you know what that may be? He said it was also used to prevent roaches. Sound familiar?
Thanks so much for your help! Good luck to those out there! You will survive!
