Thanks Jim, I don't think this is a "sickly sweet smell" a nesting pheromone smell like "rotten coconut?" This is much worse... but I'll try soap and water!!!!!

When I was hunting something to deodorize the cat puke, some of the products I ran across were used by teams that clean up crime scenes.

At the time AIP said it even removed the smell from where there had been decaying bodies. That is what I meant about it being gross.

BBs can leave what is described as a "sickly sweet smell" in heavy infestations. A nesting pheromone or something.

It would be best to ask the PCO after inspection for guidance.

Bottom line is if the stench is from decaying organic matter there are products to clean that up that for use after soap and water.

"Post treatment there are products for cleaning biological remains and it gets real gross"

Jim, I'm confused. Do you mean the stench comes from their death bodies? their biological remains after DE? or their feces? ".... and it gets real gross" will you, please, elaborate? I was thinking.. perhaps an evil person placed a stink bomb in my closet and dresser as a prank

ps It may be a lingering mustiness since the area is not being aired out, but I'd still want the PCO to be sure nothing was living there. 3 weeks with no bites is a bit soon to be sure.

I really don't know about removing the smell, but I'd want a PCO to make sure it wasn't because there were still bed bugs.

Also, some PCOs won't treat if you use DE because they have their own treatment plans. Some involve a dust which may or may not contain DE, or may be stronger, some don't. Some don't like DE or dusts.

Some don't want to treat if you've treated IN ANY WAY because they want to know what is being done and where--and make decisions about this.

I can't speak for all the possible reasons, since I am not a PCO.

Others will say it is fine.

One final point: this may not be the case with you, but lots of people simply don't know what they're doing. Someone may think they sprinkled DE lightly in corners, and the PCO may perceive the same client as having applied it with a shovel (which doesn't work).

Since DE is not meant to be inhaled, you can imagine someone not wanting to deal with your home after that happened. (If the customer used pool grade DE, the danger is even more serious.)

Having used DE is not a reason not to call in a PCO, which you should. A good PCO will probably tell you what to do and help you. It is simply a warning to others that you should consult with your PCO before using DE AND know how to apply it.

Contact a PCO and explain all that you did and show them upon inspection where you spread DE.

See what they say. They may have a suggestion for the stench also.

Post treatment there are products for cleaning biological remains and it gets real gross but I recall running across a product called Anti-Icky-Poo that claims to eliminate oders from decaying organic matter.

http://www.antiickypoo.com/p-antiickypoo_gallon.html

Never used it but used something similar when my old cat was in her last years. She puked all the damn time.

Thank you all!!
I've been using DE and 91% alcohol for about a month(..hot dryer, zipper bags, double tape,....)No bites for about 3 weeks but they are around.. Oh, Yes! Got rid of many things didn't really need, took others to a 5x5 storage. Now I'm ready for PCO. Will they refuse to treat because I used DE? and Why?

And the Big Question: How do you get rid of the shitty smell? The strong odor was/is in two areas: in the bedroom coming from an old big dresser that was taken to the landfill because of it, and in the closet by the front door -everything removed, cleaned, sprayed with 91% alcohol, then with DE, we aren't using it and keep the doors closed but if opened.......
