I had a friend give me bed bugs, and wound up passing them on to my boyfriend unknowingly. Neither of us are particularly impressed with the absolute lack of research this friend did (thus screwing us), and we hate not being able to spend much alone time together unless out for coffee or a movie. But I do think it'll be a good stress test for us. Many relationships are inevitably put to a hard, hard test with bed bugs.

Off line bed bugs and break ups. Unfortunately over the years I have seen several relationships hit the skids over bed bugs, one engagement ended and two affairs and a questionable lifestyle and revenue source come to light. On the flip side if bed bugs could write what a tale they could tell. Reminds me of a Victorian erotic novel entitled "Autobiography of a flea" which was made into a seventies porn flick. I've thought of compiling some of these into a future work.

Great story. It's been 10 months since I've seen a freakin' bloodsucker, and obviously hope I never see another... (I just knocked wood). The man responsible for them was allowed to move back into the building last October! I was horrified/mortified, (and still sometimes dream of murdering him), but apparently it was illegal for management to evict him for causing the infestation. Whatever. I only ever had 17, (alive and dead), in total, in my apt., but I'm still traumatized and will never forget it. I left the bathroom light on for 6 months, because for some reason that's where I saw almost all of them; painted my floor white so I could see anything right away, and I still spray under my door every couple of days. Paranoia will destroy you...and it did, for a little while. I'm much better now.

Interesting article, well-written.

Unfortunately, an article like this only reinforces the misconception that BBs are more common with messy, dirty people.

Nice piece.

It's so easy to bring bed bugs home. They could as easily have come from the Indian restaurant, the subway seat, or anywhere else she had been in several months.

I don't think I have seen that essay before. Even though it's been out a year and she mentions this site. So thanks!

This is a cautionary tale about online dating and bedbugs. Another thing to keep in mind when you consider all the ways to avoid bringing bedbugs home!
