Are they in fact centipedes or millipedes?

Good question, Winston.

I am definitely talking about house centipedes, and we have a nice photo in our centipede faq.

Are they in fact centipedes or millipedes? Millipedes occasionally invade homes, sometimes through duct work this time of year. Also depending on your location it maybe that all this rain has sent many an insect a traveling often times into homes. Either set them back outside or vacuum. As far as "another cause for alarm" it is important to realize that we need to coexist with non harmful life forms, it is the kill em all attitude that has lead to some of the resistance and over application of pesticides for cosmetic reasons.

Centipedes? Is that like silverfish? Every fall, gnats and flies come in more around here (which I hate,) but haven't noticed any other critters around here.

We've seen a slight increase in house centipedes and indoor gnats/flies. This happens to us every fall. It gets cool so things head inside.

Wish they didn't.

Centipedes do eat bed bugs and some folks like to allow them to stick around because of this.

On the other hand, people without bed bugs also have centipedes.

I notice them more in the damp weather, and yes, when it's cooler.

They do head indoors in the Fall. And if any show up in here I'll make them a nice cake.

I noticed that too!!! I killed a few centipedes before the PCO treated my apartment. Afterward, I still saw a few lying dead in the diatomaceous earth that I've put down in my apartment.

I hope folks in the forum are right and that centipedes don't mean bed bugs. I've killed two crickets, too, since the BB treatment. Do they eat BB?

"A centipede was happy quite
until a frog in fun said
tell me which leg comes after which?
This raised her mind to such a pitch
she lie distracted in a ditch
wondering how to run."

Hi --

Sorry for all the dumb questions. Still haven't seen a BB but have noticed an increase in centipedes over the past few weeks -- I've seen about four in the past week. They're sooooo gross! I understand that they eat bed bugs (among other things), so does an increase in centipedes = bed bugs? Or is there a particular season with which more centipede sightings is associated? I'm wondering if the beginning of Fall would mean more centipedes were retreating from the outdoors to the indoors?

I have interceptors under my bed legs and haven't found anything in them except for a dead baby centipede. Someone else on this site posted that a centipede in the interceptor = a centipede trying to get into the bed because there are BBs in there. Really? I seem to also remember reading that people find lots of random bugs in their interceptors...?
