You should find out what he means by bomb. Ask him to name the chemicals. The FAQ on bombs explains the differences between bad bombs and ok-in-limited-use ones.

I have no idea. that is what my PCO said. he will "bomb the whole house" we live in a 3 bed room home. He also talked REALLY really fast that I didn't understand all the steps he was going to perform but just remember hearing "fog the house" and we cant come back for 4 hours and then after we come home we have to air out the house. does this sound like standard PC procedure?

anyways. it is very annoying. What I was going to do as in self help was maybe just keep spraying some kleen free and then caulking up everything I see. That is my self pest control, since I am really forcing myself to believe that we have a very very mild if even an infestation. what do you guys think?

Also would it be safe to maybe put some DE the food grade into all the cracks and then caulk it into the walls?

I read somewhere if you are building your own house, it is really a great thing or tip to lay some DE between your foundations and walls and such to protect against pests. so tell me what you people think!

What do you mean by "fumigate"? Make sure you read the FAQs about doing your own pest control and about bombs (foggers) --which is what most people mean when they say fumigation. Bombs or foggers are definitely a bad idea and can make your problems much worse.

True vikane gas fumigation is good but expensive and you'd know they were going to do it.

Hi Mini..that sounds a bit high, but often it depends on the size of the home...number of bedrooms, etc. I was charged $500...the guy was there 2 hours...he inspected nothing. He steamed all mattresses...he closed the door while in each room so I couldn't observe. He sprayed an odorless spray throughout the enitre house. I asked what it was, but never got a specific answer. And I did not press the issue (I wish I had) He treated the mattresses with Sterifab and told me it was great stuff. Then (as an afterthought) treated each room with an aerosol. (again with the door closed) and he retreated coughing profusely. My fee did not include any return visits nor did it include any guarantee. Does your quote include return visits? guarantees? a bed bug dog inspection? As for the spray...it was a pesticide supposedly to kill bed bugs. I hope this helps!

Ideally, the PCO should inspect the home in order to treat it the best possible way. In my case, our PCO did no inspection...steamed all mattresses, and sprayed the entire house. Fortunately we isolated beds and took further measures to win the war. Fumigation is much different...it involves tarping the entire home and releasing toxic gas. It's extremely costly.

so should I spray just 1 room? the PCO that I spoke with said I should do the whole house because even if they spray 1 room, they might escape to other rooms. Now, I thought when you fumigate your house/room the bugs all die??

Mini...it's possible you have a small infestation (great..easier to defeat)...but I must caution you not to rely on bites as the sole indicator. My son does not react at all to the bites. So it's possible that you don't react. Because they can breed so quickly, you might consider hiring a PCO to (at the very least) spray your home. The initial expense will be far less than learning about a worse case later. Good luck!!

well. to tell you the truth I think I'm going to try to tackle this myself. from the evidence I don't think I might even have bb hopefully but if I do I think I only have like a few...meaning under 5 bugs?? could that be possible?? my daughter is the only one getting bitten and she only gets like 1or 2 bites every know and then. she hasn't gotten any last night and yesterday is the day I power cleaned. I even squirted murphy's oil in all the cracks and crevices until the oil came out of the walls.

anyways I guess I'm going to have to monitor.

Mini,

I don't know about KF having any effect on allergens. I have not read anything to suggest that. nomorebugs is right that washing and drying on hot is good enough for clothing.

People spray it on live bugs they see (though squishing also works). They also spray it inside shoes and other places there might be hard to see bugs.

But if the bug is not sprayed directly, it will not die.

Are you using a pest control operator (PCO)? It really is hard to kill bed bugs yourself. (I am not a PCO, by the way.)

Hot drying of the laundry will kill bugs and eggs. Highest heat setting until dry and then maybe 10 to 20 minutes longer. Some people say 1 to 2 hours longer. If you have time, longer dry times cannot hurt. I think this Kleen Free help get rid of allergents (sp) from bugs. If you are very allergic to things, you can use it. Otherwise, not necessary, heat works.

Kleen free seems to be a contact killer. Once dried, it doesn't work. You want a pesticide with a residue. It's the best way to get rid of BB.

MBH:

I'm not an expert on how to use Kleen free, but if I were you, I would paste some Vaseline around each of the bed legs, whether you spray them with Kleen free or not. That will keep any bugs from crawling up into the bed. Also, be sure to isolate the bed from the wall, that is, pull it away from the wall about two-three inches. If the headboard is attached to the bed, better paste vaseline around it's legs also and spray the headboard with Kleen free. Maybe someone else has some suggestions on spraying Kleen free on the bed itself.

Best

just got my kleen in the mail. I used it in a spray bottle and sprayed cracks and places I think the bb are hiding. my question is I read somewhere you can use it in the laundry but it said to use 4 oz now do you have to use detergent too or just kleen free?

and also does the kleen free work even though it dries? should I spray again before I go to sleep?? llike bed legs? and around the bed?
