Dear Lyr,

Some comments for your consideration:

> Be a wise consumer/tennant/resident and learn your rights. Nobugs is correct in this and there are some LLs that will attempt to "stonewall" residents into thinking that they are responsible for the costs of treatment of their apartment. Some of these regulations may be available online for you to review. Where are you located?

> Practicality: In the meanwhile you still have to stay in your home and we need to help you to prevent additional bites. No matter what the answers are for the point above, it's you in there and not the LL.

> Vacuuming & steaming are two great remediation techniques. It's all about where so let's be sure you get after every possible harborage location, especially with your steamer. BTW, please work within the performance abilities of your steamer. If you move it too quickly over the target areas, it may be possible that you're not adequately delivering a lethal applocation of steam.

> Yes, it's a lot of work but be methodical.

> Search & treat, vacuum or steam, concurrently to save time.

> It appears you know where to look & treat so that's great. You really cannot make a significant error utilizing these techniques. ANd the only error we need you to avoid is missing any BBs.

> Once you're satisfied your bed is sufficiently rendered BB free, it's time to isolate it to help prevent bites occurring tonight. Move the bed so that it does not contact the floor, wall or adjacent furniture. Same thing for any bedding garments. Place BB blockers under each bed leg and you should be "good to go".

Let me know if any additional questions.

Hope this helps ! paul b.

Hi lyr,

It sounds like Paul is coming back to comment on your method.

Have you checked into the local laws? I just wanted to make sure.

We've heard of landlords saying they won't do anything when they hope the tenant isn't aware of their legal rights.

Hi, I have that same question...how do I know if I'm going to get and infestation?? and how long do they take to become one??
....
What should we do?? Check our whole room, even closet?? I'm so tired, haven't sleep well and I'm really worried, I DO NOT what to get infested (hope I have not gotten infested yet). Please help ! Thanks.

Hi lyr,
I think you're using the term "infested" to
mean "a serious bed bug problem."
Bed bugs are a bit different from
ants, roaches, or other pests, because even one bed or two is a problem that needs
to be taken very seriously and eliminated.
(Before anyone comments -- yes, a single ant or roach is something you'd want to address too. But the difficulty of treating bed bugs is much greater.)
Keep in mind, bed bugs hide well. You have seen one live one and three dead ones. There may be more harboring in the box spring or elsewhere.
You definitely need treatment and it is best if this comes from a licensed, experienced
professional.
In many locations, the laws require
landlords to pay for treatment to eliminate pests (including bed bugs). Some
places have laws regarding bed bugs in particular.
A local tenants' organization may be able to advise you if you do not know your rights.

[b] Thank you "Nobugsonme"... I would love for some professionals to come and treat the place... but since our landlord doesn't cover that, we have already tried it last time when we thought we had BB, and ended up been carpet beatles, they say we have to pay from our own pocket =( ... Right now we dont have the money, so last night we steam again the box spring, and I sprayed it with bed bug spray, put two matress covers on the box springs, bought another new matress cover for the matress a good one. We also stream and sprayed our nightstands, also we vacumm the carpet, sprayed along the edges where the carpet meets the wall, all around our room (just in case a sprayed also in the door of our room, thinking it might help not get out of our room and transfer somewhere else).

Please tell me if we are doing something wrong??? what should I do with our clothes in the drawers and in the closet??? What else can we do, that it might help treating this problem???

We also put taple on the outlets, and we sprayed the headboard, foot rails and the legs of the bed frame, also the put doble side tape on the legs... I'm trying to treat it myself since right now we dont have the money to call some professionals =( ... Please help, and Thanks again.

Hi, I have that same question...how do I know if I'm going to get and infestation?? and how long do they take to become one??

Two nights ago, when I was about to jump in bed, as a moved my sheets I saw one, I know it was a BB, because I have seen the pictures on the internet. I killed it and had blood, my husband was already sleeping, and what it worries me the most is that sometimes my daughter sleeps with us, she is 1 yr old. Couldn't sleep the whole night, just thinking about the BB. Yesterday afternoon, when my husband got off work, he helped me move the mattress and boxsprings, (its really heavy I cant move it myself) no sings of live ones, just on one of the box springs in one corner, where it has that plastic to protect the corner, there where 3 dead ones (dried ones, like skulls) and in that same corner old blood stains, really dark ones, almost black... We vacumm under the bed, and steamed the box springs, not the mattress because it has already a mattress protector for bed bugs and dust mites, since September 2011. We bought the mattress protector since we thought we had BB, called professionals and ended up been carpet beattles. I'm suspecious where we got them from, since we leave in rental townhomes, there are new neighbors, they moved about August time frame, and their bed room is wall to wall to ours, and there is an outlet in that wall, could it be possible that we might had got them from our neightbors??? We haved travel at all, and no visitors in our home.

What should we do?? Check our whole room, even closet?? I'm so tired, haven't sleep well and I'm really worried, I DO NOT what to get infested (hope I have not gotten infested yet). Please help ! Thanks.

As i posted previosuly, none of the photos appear to be fecal stains.

Based upon my feeding & defocation trial work an egorged BB will create about one fecal stain per day after feeding and this rate will decrease after about a week.

However, we are dealing with biological entities so there may be variations by individual.

Where you're concerned: If you have had Bbs feeding for this length of time, I'd expect that there'd be fecal stains present for you to find via adequate inspection.

Hope this helps! paul b.

Each bed bug will feed about once a week (maybe more if it's warm). Each time they eat, they poop.

Does that mean that the number of bites I had is the number of fecal stains there are? Do they poop right after they bite or they can leave them anywhere (wall, mattress, ...)?

I was wondering, how long, like maximum, to see an infestation, because it's been now three months, like wouldn't I see a bed bug by now since it's been that long?

A single BB leaves signs in about a week... in three months you should have teens of them and a big amount of traces...

About how many fecal stain do a bed bug puts every week?

INSPECTION
I suspected bed bugs. I looked at my mattress VERY well in every corner, underneath, beneath everywhere, my bed, my box spring flipped it over looked with a flashlight sometimes, vacuumed every corner also, but haven't seen any bed bugs! Although, I did find some suspicious signs. But I'm not sure if they are fecal stains. I took pictures of them.

QUESTION
Could you tell me if these are fecal stains? (I circled the suspected fecal stains with a pencil, which is why you can see a circle around them.)

I was wondering, how long, like maximum, to see an infestation, because it's been now three months, like wouldn't I see a bed bug by now since it's been that long?

A single BB leaves signs in about a week... in three months you should have teens of them and a big amount of traces...

Dear need,

Well, one thing you need is to know where to look and what you're looking for.

Go to the resources pages on this site and look at the photos there to learn what you're looking for and how it will appear when you find it.

Next, you need to know where to look, this includes: mattress, box spring, bed frame, night stand, head board & foot board of bed if you have one.

Use a decent flashlight to help you look. Get a magnyfying glass if that will help you as well.

You're looking for the telltale signs of BBs which are: fecal stains, shed skins, carcasses, live BBs and BB eggs (very small only 1 mm long).

Conduct a good inspection and let us know what you find.

Hope this helps ! paul b.

SINCE WHEN
It's been since October 2011 that I get bites. (PS.: I think it's since a friend came in my house and put her schoolbag on my bed? Not sure if it's the reason why.)

MY MYSTERIOUS BITES
I had one big on one leg, and two other big bites on my other leg. Then I have got until now new bites but smaller (some of them starts itching bad during the afternoon, but I don't touch it and than in an hour and a half it stops itching, some of them don't itch maybe just like on a scale 1 on 10, a few are in a pattern but even there not sure cause it disappears.) on my thighs, arms, back, chin side of body. But not much. Maybe a maximum of 20.

INSPECTION
I suspected bed bugs. I looked at my mattress VERY well in every corner, underneath, beneath everywhere, my bed, my box spring flipped it over looked with a flashlight sometimes, vacuumed every corner also, but haven't seen any bed bugs!

QUESTION

Thank very much for reading my case and I hope you'll can help me. I'm freaking out because of my bites.

(FYI: Other people in my house also have bites recently, while mine occurred were earlier.)
