I like encasements. I like anything that makes surfaces easy to inspect. I can't imagine finding bugs if they were in a foundation, whereas that featureless white surface provides no place for them to hide.

But I certainly wouldn't expect them to solve an infestation by themselves.

We encased the box spring (mattress encasement tore as we tried to put it on). Not sure what purpose it served in the brief time before we just decided to trash the bed, since BBs promptly set up shop within the encasement zipper seam. That was apparently from bug search party that climbed up from the infestation we had not yet discovered between the metal frame and wood.

Still, I'll probably encase our new mattress and box spring just because I'm paranoid at this point and would probably plant magic beans in the bedroom if it had even the tiniest possibility of helping.

Hi,

Encasements don't stop you getting bedbugs.

If they are present or not bedbugs come into the home with people or through from an adjoining neighbour.

I personally don't hold any value in mattress encasement but can see some value in box spring but not over a good quality professional treatment.

I would suggest that you read the FAQ's and understand the issue in more detail so you can draw up an action plan.

As for taking the encasement's back to the supplier I would advise that you discuss it with them in advance as you don't want to return bedbugs to the store as that would be highly socially irresponsible.

I would leave the encasements alone. I understand you're frustrated and angry but why take the chance of spreading them even more? Encasements are just one tool among many that can be used in the fight against bedbugs, but they are not a cure-all and don't prevent you from getting bedbugs. In fact, some experts don't use them at all. The encasements only entrap the ones that happen to be in the boxspring or mattress at the time, provided there are no holes or tears and the seal at the zipper is secure.

You can examine them to make sure that there are no tears. I found a tear in one of mine and just placed another encasement right on top. There's info. in the FAQ's on encasements if you need more info.

You may want to seriously consider calling in a professional if you haven't already.

We purchased two different encasement's. One sealed the bugs in, the other was for box springs and said it sealed them in and killed them and eggs. We did both we are infested again so obviously it didnt kill them. I threw away the packages, should I take back the 100$ killing encasement's to the store bedbugs and all and return the? I spent $400 on this stuff- Any advice?
