Hi jkjemildner,

Regarding the possibility of delayed reactions, the maximum delay between bite and response is about 2 weeks and this delay decreases with subsequent exposures. It is therefore possible that you are still getting new reactions to bites that happened prior to the 7th March.

I live in a single family home. I already have told myself that I am not stopping to look! I am happy that I haven't had any more bites myself but am nervous. I just don't know if I am waiting for eggs to hatch and in a few days I will start getting bit again. OY! Thanks for replying though!

Welcome to the site. The bumps could be stress induced, but I would not stop being vigilant. Are you in a single structure or do you share walls with others (apt, condo)? If the latter you should check to see if your neighbors have problems as your issue will come back if they are not being treated as well. Good luck trying on your own and I wish you success but I would get a pro in as soon as possible if you can. It is really not possible to diagnose bed bugs just by presence/absence of bites.

Okay..so I am new here. My name is Kristen and well.. I never even knew they had a forum for people with bedbugs but now I am glad they do! Anyways....on Monday March 7th I woke up with some itchy red bumps. I had about 12...some more popped up during the day..and I was convinced I had chicken pox. I googled it and I just couldn't figure out what I had. Then on Friday of that same week I noticed my son had 2 bumps on his chest. I figured I would wait the weekend and see if any more bumps popped up on him and then take him in to the doctor on Monday. However, I was talking to my friend and she mentioned bed bugs to me. I told her yeah right! How would I have gotten bed bugs?? I haven't traveled anywhere in over a year...But she told me how to see. So I went in my room and checked my bed. Nothing. I came back and sat at my computer and googled some stuff on bed bugs. Something told me to go look and check again and this time.. I found a bug. I freaked. So my husband and I packed the kids up and headed to home depot to get a shop vac, construction size garbage bags and some bed bug spray. We came home that night and put the kids to bed and put everything in bags and then outside..we threw away our bed, we vaccumed every room around the baseboards and all the floors. We then sprayed around all of the rooms. Went to bed that night..No bites but I did have a welt pop up on the back of my leg the next morning. Then on Saturday we took the bug into a pest control place and they confirmed bed bugs. He told me rubbing alcohol. So we went out and bought a steamer and some rubbing alcohol. Came home and steamed all of the baseboards and sprayed the rubbing alcohol on everything and steamed everything. Then that night we went through about 30 bags of stuff and steamed all of that as well..and we washed all clothes and bedding in hot water and then put it all in the dryer...OY..Sorry this is a bit long...I want to also say that we searched our bed and box spring before we took it out and we never found anything..we cut the bed open..nothing..we looked for any telltale brown signs..nothing. Not on my bed, nor my kids. We did keep the kids beds because I think my son was bit in my bed. I bought special covers for the kids bed as well. Anyways on Sunday morning..I thought there was a bite on my daughters arm but now I think I overreacted...There have been no bites since Thurday night as far as I can tell. I have been told that I cannot get rid of bed bugs on my own..I have to try.. I do not have 1000 dollars to get rid of these HORRIBLE bugs! Anyways..This is what I am wondering..I appear to be the one the bugs liked the best. I had about 30 bumps on me. I am convinced not all were actual bites. I think I am having an allergic reaction to them. I had some pretty huge welts show up. My bites are contained to my face, arms, legs and feet. It seems I can tell where actual feedings took place because they are in triangles or 3 in a row. BUT tonight I looked in the mirror and I have a small red splotch on my neck and one on my chin. They are not bumps..there is no center but it looks like a small welt. Is this a bite? Could this just be a delayed reaction to the toxins? Some of my bumps still itch occasionally...I feel like I have bugs crawling all over me but I know they are not. Could I have caused the welt to come up by stressing? I was convinced I actually got rid of them. The pest guy told me that it was a baby that I found and that I was lucky to have found it. I found it during the day just walking along in the seam of my bed. We have not found ANY more.. I have been up each night going into my kids rooms looking at their beds with a flashlight. Still no signs of brown spots. No bites on them..but I did notice my son has a small red splotch on his neck as well..not bump..it is not raised and it is not itching. I have checked under the carpet by where my bed was. I have checked everywhere. I have not been able to find anymore. The pest guy said that it was a good sign that I have not seen an adult bug. I honestly do believe I caught it in the beginning..I had my sons birthday party the Friday before I started getting bit...All of my relatives put their belongings on my bed. And then 2 days later..WALA I am getting bit! O JOY!! anyways is it possible I got rid of them? Could the red welty things just be a delayed reaction?? Please someone ease my mind!! Thanks! Kristen
