Hi,

Your options are:

PackTite (most cost effective)
Professional Thermal remediation
Vikane fumigation
Send to an off site decon facility

The observant will notice that microwaving is not on that list. I tried it in 2003 out of desperation and not knowing. I learn't in 5 minutes @ 900W that its does not work and my hands are not in fact made of thermally isolating materials.

Don't do it! I read online somewhere that you could do it, and stupidly tried it when I found a dead and desiccated bug in one of my daughter's books from school. It was like burning the popcorn bag, only worse. And of course I had to pay to replace the books!

Microwaving books is not only ineffective but a fire hazard.

Treating them in a Packtite is much safer.

I don't know what it will do to the bindings, but I am wondering if this will take care of the problem at least as far as the books go, since I have a number of books I use as reference for teaching that are not readily available really anywhere...

Anyone have experience with this?
