Hi,

Yes its in the final stage of training but has passed all field trials to date.

We are mainly aiming to use it in commercial settings for hotel screening and identification in non standard environments which is an area that I am very interested at present.

That is not to say we will not use it in domestic settings just that it is point in time human inspection is our preference.

The dog training has been done out of house using a specialist dog trainer who has an exclusive relationship with us for developing this service. Once we have the processes down to the level that I am aiming for we will offer to train other units to be placed around the UK (not likely to be for another 6 - 9 months though).

Hi buggedof,

I find that in the UK ficam causes more problems than it resolves but I know others in different countries seem to get it working very well, most notably Sean in Canada and some people in Australia.

I am not sure yet if this is a sign of a UK specific resistance issue or a UK different formulation issue.

After 60 days clear I would step the cleaning and inspection back to monthly rather than weekly for your own free time and sanity. In fact the reasoning for that is outlined in the monthly inspection newsletter accessible from the site.

The good news to follow on the website is that there now appear to be a range of different monitoring solutions. I am testing a new one tomorrow and over the next few days which works in a different way again to the ones that have been talked about so far. I suspect that after a long time without few options we will now have a variety of options available and I suspect it will be a case of selecting the right tool for the right job.

David,
From your website, you mention that BBs may be resistent to Ficam products. Is this really true? What other products are there that are effective?

My PCO used Tempo and Ficam in the walls. Our last treatment was over 60 days ago. While we have not experienced any bites recently, I am constantly inspecting the bed area and vacuuming/steaming on a weekly basis. We did see a live bug at the front door which had been recently fed - but not from us. Our PCO told us to clean, steam and lay out monitors. I am paranoid now.

Hi Everyone,

As promised a few weeks ago I have been working on some new ways of displaying images and information on bed bugs. Once I started it appears I found it hard to stop and have just finished a page by page complete re-write of my website.

The main features that I wanted to bring to people attention is that the gallery now has a roll over function so that larger and higher resolution versions of the images now appear. It should make it a lot easier for people to see the detail and thus will help with self identification of the issue. The larger images also include text to indicate the features that you need to look for.

I will be opening the restricted access sections in the next few weeks once the back end of the site is complete and will include a lot of the educational documents that I have written in the last few years.

Some of the sections with specific information for landlords and hotels will remain closed as will the section full of support information that links in with our treatment program (partly on the grounds that the information is specific to our methods and would therefore not be of value to anyone other than a property we are treating).

I will also be producing a set of educational images that can be used on other non commercial websites if people are interested. The problem however is that images of this nature need to be high resolution and therefore large files. As such they gobble up bandwidth very quickly if you are on restricted bandwidth hosting.

Now that it is uploaded it is likely to continue to evolve for the next weeks until I am 110% happy with the finished product, it may also need to reflect so changes we are seeing (had a call today about another active monitoring system which we will start testing on this week and yes it works on a different principle to the other 3 types we are now aware of).

There is also a feedback section if you want to make suggestions or see specific issues addressed through the site.

Hope you all enjoy a lot more than I did getting to grips with the new software and coding it all.
