Bed bugs aren't long and black so as the previous respondent said, probably not a bed bug. If you do see a bug that you think is a bed bug, you can post a photo for ID.

You shouldn't call pest control to be 100% sure. You should forget about it because (a) it wasn't a bed bug and (b) it's certainly not the only bug in your room right now.

It shouldn't have gone far, it's probably hiding in the corner of my room that I am closely inspecting. Strangely I cannot find it, nor could I hear anything or see it coming out. Could it be dead or something?

Today I left my window open and forgot to close it. When I looked again a bug has fallen in, it's a bit long [I dunno how to describe it, since I didn't get a close look as I get very nauseated at the sight of insects] and black, and as I tried to kill it it ran and disappeared. Now what should I do? What are the chances it is a bed bug? If it is, what should I do? Should I just call in pest control to be 100% sure?

Thanks to both responders for your help. We should have mattress, box spring, and pillow encasements/covers by Tuesday. Not sure if we have bed bugs that aren't leaving any trace or if something else is going on. Maybe my wife had an allergic reaction to carpet beetles or perhaps something else is biting her. Thanks again for the help.

I was sweeping and this lil critter ran out of the dustpan. Yes, they confirmed the last time back in Sept when I was getting a quote then but was too poor to afford it. They re-verified. I keep a little sample of 3 bugs in the freezer...and I still have them >.> There is a 21 day guarantee. At the 21 days, a dog comes out to verify whether or not the bugs are gone. If they aren't, another heat treatment is done, free of charge. I just hope to God that they are because, 1) I don't want to get bit again, and 2) I don't feel like going through all that prep again.

There is a 21 day guarantee. They have a dog come out to verify the riddance of the bugs 21 days after the treatment. If he picks up on some, then they do another heat treatment, free of charge. They also put down 2 chemicals as a part of the treatment. The paper lists Alpine and Temprid. I ended up keeping the couch. I will get a new one, because this one is just done, even if there wasn't even bed bugs. They targeted the couch, so I think it got a fair dose of fire.

There are also completely unrelated species like rat mites that might be the cause. If you post a photo, someone can hopefully confirm the diagnosis which is the first step. Unfortunately, as Cilecto said, you kind of have to face the music with all this. I'm not a lawyer, but keeping bed bugs (or other pest problems) a secret from the landlord, and thus allowing them to get worse, may have legal repercussions that go beyond getting evicted.

In the four step process under "fumigation" it says they fog. (With all-natural products? Does this mean cedar oil?!?) affordablebedbugcontrol.org/Our-4-Step-Procedure.html Paul, or other US PMPs -- hypothetically, if someone in the US is using "all natural" EPA-exempt products, do they still need to be a licensed to apply pesticides? Or could someone conceivably with little knowledge of pests start a business like this? (I stress I'm not saying that's what's happening here.) I mean it's not like all licensed PMPs are bed bug experts, but it does sort of up the ante a bit if you have some kind of professional training and licensing process.

Q: I've had the dog come sniff and 2 PCO's say I don't have the bugs. However, I keep getting bitten (all after a trip to a hotel), find random blood spots on the bed, and today found a strange amber looking bug particle while doing the laundry. R: Remember, we need to find physical evidence of bed bugs before we can be 100% that you have bed bugs. If you're being bitten over time there will be more and more physical evidence present to be found. You will need to inspect all the usual places where bed bugs hide thoroughly. You might also try setting your alarm for say 3:00 AM and go bed bug hunting. Q: My husband threw it away without knowing I wanted to keep it. R: It's better to retain the specimen for ID pruposes, as you already know. Q: I know there is a good chance that I may not have the bugs, but I also have this old Florida style home with lots of nooks and crannies everywhere and spots where the baseboards don't touch the floor. Is it possible to go this long (over a month) with no sightings of actual bugs, moltings, or fecal matter on sheets or cloth despite daily inspections? R: Of course, anything is possible and bed bugs may go an exteneded period of time without feeding. Q: Also, I saw that you were able to recommend a PCO in the Orlando area some time ago to someone? May I ask who that was and why you recommended? R: Yes, you can. Why? Generally because I know them and trust that they would take care of their customers well. Q: Should I just wait and see now? Hi, It's not bedbug related. Going purely on the colour it could only be a cast skin and the density and shape are wrong for that. There are many other subtle signs, I am just using the most obvious as an example. Please read the FAQ's and check useful tools for the best things to do to help prevent bedbugs getting out of control even if you were to get exposed again. Hope that is calming. David

Hey all, This place looks familiar... I'm back after nearly 10 months being bed bug free, after waking up yesterday with a cluster of bites on my hip. I'm not naive about BBs anymore after going through a 3-month long ordeal last summer, I know how my body reacts to them, and unfortunately I'm almost 100% sure my building has the issue again. I've called my landlord about it, stripped my bed, and will be on the lookout for the next week for more concrete proof. (A neighboring building that shares a wall with us also has been throwing out bureaus, mattresses/boxsprings, and heavy duty black trash bags in the last few days, so there could be some movement from there even - our buildings are old and have cracks/holes galore.) Last time, one of the places the bed bugs eventually used as their home (after they traveled to me from my downstairs neighbors) was the nooks and crannies of my upholstered headboard. By the "end" of the infestation, they were all dead in there and I was content enough doing a vacuum job and dealing with it, because the headboard cost me a lot of money and I quite like it. But now that they are almost definitely back in some way, I've had it. I want the headboard gone because, even though it's not a problem now (it's not like an egg was left in there and hatched 10 months later), it'll be one less thing to worry about and one less place for them to cluster this time. I know I would want to wrap it up JUST IN CASE so nothing would fall out while carrying it outside, but I've never read about any heavy duty plastic wrap that will get the job done. I could use plain store-brand Glad wrap, but...it would take an awful lot of rolls! Do you know of any brands/websites that sell plastic wrap specifically for furniture disposal/transportation? Thanks for reading my ridiculously long post for one simple question Hope any of you who are in the midst of BB situations are doing ok!

The one I found dead from the treatment that didn't look like a full adult was a lighter brown color. The nymph was a light color but it's abdomen was red/full of blood.

The boxes were in a basement in Michigan through 2 summers and winters. Outside in winter it gets to be 0 degrees Fahrenheit, in summer it gets to be up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. They have heating and cooling. I don't know the exact temperature it would be. They had probably been feeding on me for a couple weeks before I noticed. The nymph had just fed on me so it was full. The adult I found wasn't super bloated but not super thin either. The dead one I saw looked like it was almost an adult but not a full adult. It looked like it hadn't eaten much. But are the adults the only ones that can be dormant that long?

I have added the pics I took with my phone as viewed through a photography magnifying loupe. Again, they aren't as clear as they are when looking with the naked eye so they really look even more like a you know what. In the one image you can see if you look every carefully, the longest leg in the image does have a very faint, very thin segment on the end. There is the nubby part where it attached to the body, the thickest segment, bent down is another one and there is yet another attached to that one that is hard to see. I'm really fearing the worst here and most people looking at this image will probably do the same but I am clinging to any hope that maybe someone can look at this and say it could be something else. It will take a seasoned pro's experienced eye to do this. Hi, Yes I am passing through LGA Tuesday on my way to Stony Point NY and back to JFK to go to London on Friday. It's always best to confirm first and then deal with next steps because frankly too many cases are not actually cases for it to be any other way. I would also advise you check the useful tools section for what works moving forward, things have moved along a lot in the last few years and as long as you stay on top of the problem you can fix a small issue in a matter of minutes. Lets focus on getting things confirmed first and foremost, always remember that sometimes even a looks like a BB is not a BB. David

I had a feeling that response was coming. I tried to take a few pics with my phone through my magnifying loupe but they're not that clear, not as clear as with the naked eye so it REALLY is hard to tell. Unfortunately I work on Tuesday until 5pm. Are you coming or going from JFK? I don't live in NYC, I live in Pennsylvania outside Philly. I can't stand living around here anymore!!!!! I can't wait to get out of such a densely populated urban area. I know the problem is everywhere but it would be a great help to be in a place where people don't tend to come as go as fast. I'm really upset, I keep thinking about it's giving me a nervous stomach. If it is, which I'm very strongly suspecting by how it looks, what then? What do I do next? I have no idea where it came from. All I know is that I left the house in clean clothes, got into my car, went to the store, bought those two shirts after, got back into my car and came home and put what I was wearing and the two shirts into the dryer. What if was leftover from the day before when my other half went to the library and put his stuff in or when I put my work clothes in Friday afternoon? The not knowing simply kills me. I was out already but think I am going to go back out to the other Walmart and see about getting the images I did take onto a disc so I can upload them here. Perhaps a pro would be able to say more about the scale of the legs to the body or something, I don't know. I'm fearing the worst at this point, am shaking so bad. Talk about a ball of nerves.

Hi, Can't help on the description but cheap USB microscopes that work in current windows OS are available again on auction and online sales sites. The last one I brought was about $30, sounds like it would be a good investment. Other option is if you can get to LGA on Tuesday around 5:30pm or JFK Friday around 5:30pm I can look at it in person with my 60X eye piece. Hope that helps. David Cain Bed Bugs Limited

Hi, If you are 100% sure and find some on a regular basis you will have no problems finding faecal and taking a picture so I to and be 100% and can be certain my advice will help and not make the matter worse. Okay i had the landlord come over to the apartment when i said there were bedbugs. He inspected my bed with his flashlight and said yep i see bed bug traces. Is that enough? The thing is my mattress has so many black spots on it when you look through the inside... why you ask? Because when we look for bedbug hiding in the mattress we see it and crush it with some tissue and thus it leaves a black residual. Is that what you mean by that? Like if you look at my mattress, from a distance you would think its infested with bed bugs b/c so many places have those black marks on it... which is the bed bug stain after we kill it by taking a tissue and crushing it. Is that enough?

Hi, Sorry to it but one think I know for certain if that having watched the news footage on that site I know the "ladies" only connection to China is not an ancient Chinese cure its the phrase "lies like a cheap Chinese watch" ( the kind that's less accurate than a broken watch which will at least be correct twice a day ). I have seen that dissolving bedbug effect before, I just can't recall which snake oil seller it is. Interestingly enough they are clearly not following the four step process on their site, I would have a chat with the BBB about them, I fear you will not be the first nor last.
