Hi,

Can't help on the description but cheap USB microscopes that work in current windows OS are available again on auction and online sales sites. The last one I brought was about $30, sounds like it would be a good investment.

Other option is if you can get to LGA on Tuesday around 5:30pm or JFK Friday around 5:30pm I can look at it in person with my 60X eye piece.

Hope that helps.

I actually just put a purchase inquiry with American Express. They said that they will investigate it, and if they can't resolve this then I could go with BBB.

So what actions should I take now? Their website does say 100% guarantee on killing the eggs and adults. Should I find a different PCO? They did give me a bottle of that spray, so should I spray down my room again and hope it goes away?

Hi,

If you are 100% sure and find some on a regular basis you will have no problems finding faecal and taking a picture so I to and be 100% and can be certain my advice will help and not make the matter worse.

If you can't do that I can't help you as I am not going to give medical advice without being 110% certain.

Okay i had the landlord come over to the apartment when i said there were bedbugs. He inspected my bed with his flashlight and said yep i see bed bug traces. Is that enough? The thing is my mattress has so many black spots on it when you look through the inside... why you ask? Because when we look for bedbug hiding in the mattress we see it and crush it with some tissue and thus it leaves a black residual.

Is that what you mean by that? Like if you look at my mattress, from a distance you would think its infested with bed bugs b/c so many places have those black marks on it... which is the bed bug stain after we kill it by taking a tissue and crushing it.

Is that enough?

Hi,

Sorry to it but one think I know for certain if that having watched the news footage on that site I know the "ladies" only connection to China is not an ancient Chinese cure its the phrase "lies like a cheap Chinese watch" ( the kind that's less accurate than a broken watch which will at least be correct twice a day ).

I have seen that dissolving bedbug effect before, I just can't recall which snake oil seller it is.

Interestingly enough they are clearly not following the four step process on their site, I would have a chat with the BBB about them, I fear you will not be the first nor last.

Heres the thing. Back a few years ago i had huge bites on my back all over it. It was folliculis like and i then found out it was bed bugs b/c 1/2 of my back was red and inflamed. What happened was in my bed, there were hundreds to maybe thousands of my bedbugs that hid on my bed that bit me. We then threw the bed away immediately and bought a new bed.

The last year and this year, we check to see if bed bugs are hiding inside the mattress. We found last time 6-7 of them hiding when picking it out at night. This year however, theres usually 1-2 we find every week when checking the bed. Sometimes though, there isn't any. The thing is its 100 percent bed bugs b/c where else am i getting these bites?

Back then when 1/2 of my back was inflamed, we couldnt find bed bugs at all. The reeason was b/c they hid in this certain compartment of the bed and thats when we found there were hundreds to thousands of them there.

For my situation now, theres usullay 1 or 2 max bed bugs when we look through the bed but many times there is 0. Thing is they could be hiding somewhere else that i dont know where... maybe the walls? Thus you cant find them when you look at it now and they only appear and bite when sleeping.

Im 100 percent positive im getting bit my bugs. I had moderate-severe acne many years ago so i know what is cystic acne. I also had mild-moderate acne as well so i know what is acne and this isn't acne but bites. Its just im not 100 percent certain if its bed bug bites or mosquito bites but im leaning 95 percent bed bug bites as i have these bites on my arms and knuckles and it has the 3 bite look with breakfast, lunch and dinner.

I just want to know what cream i can put on it... thats all. I been using aveeno moisuturing cream with collidal oatmeal and some benadryl but it doesnt seem to help at all and wanted to know more the DRAWING SALVE that i read about online and if anyone know about it.

I also have manuka honey i purchased but havent used it yet but the reason i bought that was for acne red marks and pimples but these aren't pimples, these are bug bites.

I seem to go through cycles where for a long time I feel much stronger and others like I go into high alert and develop a heightened paranoia or anxiety. This is what I've been going through and on Friday I stopped at a local clothing store to pick up a couple shirts and when I came home I put the clothes I had been wearing plus the two shirts into my dryer and didn't like what I found later. I cannot ID it positively or negatively but I'm leaning with much angst towards fearing the specimen is the remnants of what I do not want it to be. I am very very very frustrated because I used to have a USB microscope with a camera and that saved my life more than once when I found things I couldn't ID 100%. I'd take a photo of a close-up and post it here and some hero with lots of experience would come in and debunk my fears and all would be right in my world once more. That broke a long time ago, the drivers no longer worked so I went out yesterday to try and get another and much to my disbelief, Toys R Us had NOTHING!! I got back in my car and started crying because in the meantime I cannot move on. If it's not what I worry it is than I could have had it ID'd and be able to move on and feel relaxed again. Instead I'm sitting here worrying my ass off and thinking non stop about it and it's not fair. Did it come from the new clothing or was it on me?? I am hoping maybe it had been a small spider of sorts because I found renmants of a larger similarly coloured one once before. I sent off a sample to be inspected by Mr. Sorkin but he never got back to me so I don't know what to do. I can't ID these things myself and I cannot currently take clear enough pics of anything to post on here nor can I send my samples away to anyone to tell me with their equipment. I'm stuck!!

For the record, the store is Rainbow and I am always super cautious about shopping there. Between the ppl who generally shop there looking like they might not be too clean and the fact that the store is based out of Brooklyn and sells cheaper stuff so there's no telling where it comes from before it hits the racks... I'll describe what I have in the piece of tape from what I found in the lint.

It's small, about the size and shape of a third stage nymph maybe younger but closer to the colour of a more mature adult bug. There are three legs that are no longer attached caught up in the lint near it, they look kind of long compared to the body but with the naked eye they're still very small. They have four segments and the last segments are long and very thin and pointy. I can't see a head or anything and the large piece or body doesn't appear to have any lines across it. I'm just worried that if it had had a head, it came off the way the legs did. Either way I cannot stop worrying and obsessing.

Hi,

Sorry you have misunderstood what I asked.

If you read the bite primer and the latest British medical journal article on bedbug bites you will know bite diagnostic is not reliable.

I was asking for picture of bugs or cast skins or faecal traces. If the cause of this is bedbugs then you will be able to find faecal traces.

Once it's confirmed as bedbugs I will know what advice to offer but until it is there is always a danger that the advice for bedbugs could aggregate the real issue.

I dont want to take a picture b/c my face is very very horrible looking now.

Well i have acne on my face the last few months. I would get 1-2 of these cysts on my face but then it would go away. About 1.5 month ago, i had these huge itch that is on my right jawline. It was a huge 1 inch red mark and it felt like another cyst pimple but there were 3 of them. Then as time went by, these pimples didn't even break or get smaller. I then noticed that when i touched it... this did not feel like a cystic pimple b/c the pain i have on it is not like a cystic pimple.

It wasn't until a few weeks later on, i started seeing more of my face with more these huge spots on my face. I had thought, this couldn't possibly be acne b/c when i did had acne, it was never this huge. Then on the left side of my face, i started having tons of red small like pimples which i never ever had on my left side face ever. My left side of face is clear and rarely any pimple. Then the left jawline area , right now i got like 8 small pimples on it and I know 100 percent its a bite b/c this isn't how pimples look it. Also the last week, i noticed that my arms and fingers gotten bug bites as well as i see the 3 step breakfast, lunch, dinner pattern on my hand and arms.

The thing is when i sleep, i put a blanket over myself and thus my hands are under the blanket. I don't have much bug bites on my hand or arms but i do have those 3 step bites etc and then more around my knuckles. These go away after 2 days or so and i personally dont really care that much b/c it isn't big. The problem for me is my face has so many of these bites that it looks like i have severe acne on my face.

On my right side, i have like 6 of these huge cystic pimples that are 100 percent bug bites. On the left side of my face i have like 20 bites that are small but it looks like a rash i have. The thing is it seems like these bugs love to bite my jawline area but they only bite the right jawline and then now left jawline.

The thing is i know i have bedbugs b/c i have found 1-2 bedbugs on my bed when i check my bed every week. The thing is last year... i had the same cystic pimple spot on the right side of my face that was so inflamed... at that time i thought it was a cystic pimple but i found out a few weeks later it was a bite... the thing was i said it had to be a mosquito bite b/c last year around this time, i had 1-2 mosquitos always buzzing my face when i go to sleep and i couldnt sleep.

This time im thinking it was mosquito bite as well as oppose to bed bug bite but when i saw the bed bug 3 bites on my arms and fingers and knuckles, that got me thinking it has to be bed bug as oppose to mosquito this time.

Basically if you google severe bed bug bites and you see this one guy who has it around his jawline... thats how mine look. The difference is except mine isn't that long but its much much more redder and when you touch it, you see 2-3 cystic pimples on it.

So i want to know what can i put on it to treat it? I read about the drawing salve cream and wanted to know if it works or not.

Dear limin,

OK, what's the deal here:

According to the website, these folks can provide 100% bed bug control using a "natural & non-toxic" type product yet just days later you still see live bed bugs in your home? Hmmmm . . .

You may wish to review your service agreement contract to clarify what the warranty actually is.

Additionally, you may wish to re-visit the quality and efficacy of service provided via a conversation with these folks.

While various pros may charge a wide range of prices for their services the simple fact remains that these folks seem to reperesent that hiring them will provide bed bug remediation to your satisfaction which is 100%.

However, I'm skeptical about the products they seem to be applying and the fogging of such products thereof. I know of no reputable professionals who are advicating the use of such products.

Additionally, you mention the term "fumigation" which actually means the application of a biocide gas fumigant within the home.

Please advise if any remaining questions or concerns.

Hope this helps ! paul b.

Hello,

Recently I had my condo treated for bed bugs. The PCO said that the infestation was not that bad about a 2/10. So I went ahead and scheduled a treatment the next day and he sprayed and fumigated the whole condo. The PCO said that it usally takes only 1 treatment to get rid of BB so that I wouldn't have to worry about them again. Unless if somehow I bring them from somewhere else.

After this treatment I thought to myself thank god no more BB, I can finally sleep in peace again. But on the 10th day while I was sleeping I woke up and saw a BB crawling on my blanket, I flipped out and went a sprayed it with this pesticide spray that they have given me.

So I called them back and they said that I need a second treatment and that after this one it should get rid of them for good. But the thing is I'm on a budget and cant afford another treatment cause they are asking for the same price, no additional discount of $399.00. So my question is are the BB back? Did it not kill all of them. What should I do? look into a different company or go with the first one. This is the company I went with : http://www.affordablebedbugcontrol.org/

This situation has taken a mental and physical toll on me. I've not been sleeping well at all. Any help will be appreciated. Suggestion on what I should do.

Hi,

I think the first step here is actually inspect and asses the risks at the point of purchase.

If you are not sure simply don't buy it.

With regards the attic the issue is not how go it gets its that the form of heating is conductive and that is te reason why it will never work.

You have ruled out the option I would recommend on financial grounds but the reality is that it's cheaper than paying for treatment.

Hi,

It's more accurate to say that people who call themselves bedbug experts often blame treatment failure on failure to prep.

With regards no prep we do it because it is the most efficient way to work. It avoids potential distribution of bugs within the home and enables us to asses the extent of the infestation in its natural state. For us it's a lot like a crime scene and the finer details give the full story, if you prep or clean you could loose a vital price of evidence and thus miss details of the crime.

It also must be said that in a normal infestation the bedbugs are isolated to around the sleeping areas so most of the clothes processing is not needed and unless your computer is in bed or immediay next to it the risk is extremely low.

However if you can't blame it on the prep you don't have any easy fall back and may need to accept some of the responsibility for failure.

Sadly a lot of bedbug protocols and programs are devised by people who do not have enough field experience to be doing so which is why they often appear non sensicle when you think about them.

I am also yet to see BB's in the cracks and cavities in the walls without either a massive (50,000+ sample) infestation or cans of aerosol driving them there.

Hi,

Unless you just moved in or they are coming from one of your neighbours the random person who brought them in still live in the house and may bring them back in unless they read the FAQ's and understand the dynamics of how bedbugs get into homes.

I see. So you are saying that treatment *failure* is common, but it is not usually due to poor preparations?

I am curious about your "no prep" approach. I am starting to think that this whole prep thing involving bagging everything sounds nonsensical to me. Bagging things could be bagging bugs and preserving their life for when the treatment is complete. My PCO justifies it as a way to remove clutter and not leaving anything that can help bugs hide in, but no matter how much you bag, there will be some items left out and those can be used by the bugs for hiding. For example, I have a desk that cannot be bagged, and I am sure a bug could find a place to hide there. I have computer monitors and a laptop that could be used for that as well. Not to mention crevices in the walls. So what is the point of bagging almost everything in the house? I am not seeing the point.

Thanks,

Hi,

No that is not what I said at all, in fact in some respects the opposite.

If a pest controller fails to eradicate bedbugs that is a treatment failure not a reoccurrence. The issue I addressed was people bring bedbugs into a property again once the current population of bugs had been eradicated.

Treatment success rate and treatment prep is a different issue. I have been in the no prep camp since 2005 simple because I could see "professionals" blaming their inability to get control on people not following prep. I don't see it as a no prep service as some would market, it is about providing a professional service from the start.

You can also see that no amount of prep is going to stop you bringing bedbugs home from the office or getting them from a neighbour.

Your pest controller needs to make sure try work till the job at hand is complete and you need to work with them to understand how the bedbugs got into your home in the first place.

I deal with too many nightmares cases where others have messed jobs up and blamed the lack of prep for their own lack of understanding of bedbug dynamics to declare its all about the prep. I believe Paul encounters this in a lot of legal cases as well.

Thanks, David.

I take it from what you are saying that it is rare to have reoccurrence simply because not all bugs were killed by a series of treatments -- sounds like usually they are, but we could get them again in the same place they came from the first time around.

My motivation for asking this question was based on fears of incomplete preparations. I am following my PCO instructions but they don't sound all that safe to me (some things are not bagged, and what is bagged has been wiped but could in principle contain bugs). But from what you tell me, preparations that follow the typical PCO instructions are usually successful in killing all bugs, then?

Thanks.

<strike>First up, if you're seeing a lot of bugs, please post a picture here, so that we can positively determine if what you believe are bed bugs truly are.

Rubbing alcohol is of limited value against bed bugs and a bad investment of your limited cash.

Our FAQare a good introduction to bed bugs and what you need to to do beat them, how to protect people who visit you and the places you visit. It also has a great guide to correct use of diatomacous earth.

If it's bed bugs: If you live in an apartment building and you've failed to bring the situation under control, then you are being irresponsible to your neighbors continuing to try and do this yourself. If your building has a "no-pets" policy and you are in violation, then you will have do deal with that or negotiate.</strike>

please I need help I would also very much like no criticizing about our rats, the T's, the landlord not knowing about the pets (or bedbugs) the small apartment .... I'm sorry I just would really appreciate help not someone telling me things I already know like that the landlord should know

I was hoping that I could help, but you've set some "conditions", so, never mind.

these little things are driving me mad as one who has them could understand..... anyways we have a bunch of rats as pets that we love dearly and want nothing to happen to them... however we live in an apartment and we're not even quite sure if were allowed pets let alone 10+ rats. We also have 2 tarantulas, dubia roaches (to feed T's) a mouse and a hamster. My question is what should we do about the bed bugs? Wouldn't it be the landlords job to pay an exterminator? but then again he'll find out about our rats. We have nowhere to bring the rats temporarily to act like we don't have them so what should we do? We can't do anything either because we don't want to harm the rats.. We sprayed DE used rubbing alcohol but I'm thinking we used too much DE because the floor was white after (thinking more was better)... Then we tried vacuuming it all up anyways because it was terrible to breath and the rats can get respiratory very easily let alone what was happening to us... anyways I need help please the apartment is small but it seems they've been in our room lately... Before they were in the living room with his father but hes been spraying pine sol (says it smells better than rubbing alcohol) and said he hasn't seen them for a while... Meanwhile we've been seeing them a lot... Within the last like day or two we've seen three, one walking across the bed, one on my shirt, then just today I woke up (unrelated to the bugs) and saw a fat one (just ate I'm assuming) walking across my pillow.. I've had enough idk what to do I'm going to go mad.. I'm supposed to visit family soon but they're afraid of getting the bugs too (with good reason)... I haven't seen my family in a while I don't want them to act like I'm the plague..We're living paycheck to paycheck as it is and we also bought mattress cover (somewhat cheap ones) and they already have holes in them from not even doing anything just from siting on the beds (get what you pay for I guess)... Nothing is working and we cant afford to keep spending money on rubbing alcohol... we still have a lot of DE left but are unsure on whether or not we should use it (his father refuses to use it because it will make a mess)... please I need help I would also very much like no criticizing about our rats, the T's, the landlord not knowing about the pets (or bedbugs) the small apartment .... I'm sorry I just would really appreciate help not someone telling me things I already know like that the landlord should know... I"m sorry I'm just so lost as to what to do please help and thanks in advanced

Hi 3biteNightmare,

Its extremely unlikley that you have ghost bugs.

Often when there is a lack of confirming signs its because the issue is not bedbugs, the three bites in a row info is so out of date but like many internet legends it lives on.

Have you checked the area for carpet beetle activity?

It may be worth starting a new thread as the BB thread is very much off the boil for not working and not many will wade through all the posts to get to your new info.

Hey everyone, wanted to post an update. I stopped using Bb as it seemed to be ineffective in my case. I switched to Bedlam for my mattress and after 2 applications (4weeks), my bed is now bite- free. This week the building's PCO came to my apt with Delta Dust and treated the apt including my couches. He saw my cans of Bedlam and commented "That's good stuff!". So we shall see.

I still have my Bb, but I'm not really using it as of now. Seems the traditional multiple method + some pro help is inescapable if you're really serious. I realize some people get rid of bed bugs by themselves and some PCOs are jokers, but I still don't think there is a magic bullet.

To answer Dave's question, weren't you using Tempo? I've read that most dusts kill residualy for many months. Delta Dust is advertised as being effective for up to 8 months if left undisturbed. It might be the leftover dust from your treatment before Bb. Bb isn't supposed to be able to survive past 2 weeks unless it is continually being "passed on" to new hosts to feed off of right?

Anyway, its been 8 months now and I'm still being bit. Nothing in my climb ups and no harborages found yet. Not even the little black spots. Nothing. Maybe I've got ghost bugs but something is biting me in rows and all over my face. Sigh.
