@all,

In case anyone is not clear, the video shows a gross overapplication of this powder. You should never apply it in that quantity (because they will avoid it) or on top of the mattress (which is dangerous). Itchy is giving bad advice in demonstrating that application and in suggesting the product be applied on top of mattresses.

@spideyjg

Well, I would not want you to miss out! Here are some screenshots. Not sure why you did not see this on the latest version of the video:

the first one
the second one

It makes me really mad that he sees the warnings about safety (you should wear a respirator mask, not a "mask," and should not apply dusts to mattress tops, nor apply "large amounts" of powder regardless of safety equipment) and effectiveness (the powder in the demo is grossly overapplied) but still does not make the corrections needed.

How's it going, Bean ? Hope you are getting through things, one step at a time, like I am!

I have an Oreck vacuum. What i like is that they're good vacuums and they let you pay it off over a 12 month period, so like 20 bucks per month.

the Uhaul thing is my favorite idea. ever. depending on your area , and i've posted this a million times, there's http://www.moldybugs.com or http://www.pureheat.com
those are the only two i know of.

@spideyjg and cilecto Well thanks. I shall look into that FAQ and see if there is a positive solution. to all of this with using this or not as an effective tool in the eradication.

Didn't notice the itchiness till you guys pointed it out. I thought it was just a nervous habit on camera or something.

Okay. BB powder is a fine idea, but use caution. (gotta read more about it. Thanks. I'll head over there and see what can be done.)

Well, today I'm going to inspect our beds and call places to see which prices for encasements are the cheapest. (Don't worry, I know these places I'm calling have the same brand of encasements I wish to buy that are effective at keeping BBs out and them in if they're there.)

Cleaning the entire house and getting rid of WHATEVER we don't need. At this apartment we're quite the pack rats and we got rid of A LOT of clothing other things we never needed. Are there certain caution with throwing away possible infected items?

Got to be a clean freak this month.

In a related video, Mr Bed Bug Powder (aka Itchy Mon) demonstrates use of a steamer. Based on practice guides and the steamer FAQ, he's using too puny a unit, working too fast to cook the surface effectively and risking scatter. But, no doubt, people have heard that steamers are good and he has them to sell.

Watch how often he scratches himself. Don't seem too successful of a treatment now does it. :)

On a serious note his application of DE, which is all that magic overpriced foofy stuff is, is excessive and potentially hazardous.

DE is an effective weapon used properly but it is not a magic bullet one stop cure that youtube hucksters make it out to be.

Read the DE FAQ and the hazards thread. A proper duster and respirator you can treat cracks properly with it.

@bushbugg, I usually just take showers, and change my clothes so the bugs don't follow me to my bed. (my roommate on the bunk below mine has it really badly and she does not even sleep on it anymore... I have to... But I don't sleep much at all. Only on the uninfected beds when it's in the early morning.)

I'll see if some of our creams can decrease my swelling and redness. Thank you. It's really embarrassing walking around with BB bites... I think it's a mark to know who to evade in my mind, but I guess I'll always be paranoid of other people seeing them.

Are you treating the bites? Ive used Aloe and Calamine lotion to great success. The calamine relives most of the itching and decreases swelling, so if I dont pick at them, much less chance of a scab. I had one day at work where my legs were just covered in bites from the last week, and the calamine really helped.

@cilecto, Okay. They might be in the walls, no vacuuming. Gosh, so much precaution. Okay. Sounds like I got to think a lot about what I'm going to do before I take single step. Must read this site a few times over and over again.
Research time. Something to do while I stay up all night... (It being 1:20am...)
Thank you

Oh god! They're bitting me and getting in my clothes... This is grossing me out so badly... It'd reduce me to tears, if I was not so fueled by anger.

My other tenants seem to notice that they only spray certain suites at certain times... Is that another faulty method, or am I just upset at them and letting bias and ignorant thought invade my mind? I don't know what to think anymore... I feel so depressed about the whole thing.

Oh well... Not going to learn anything from this site complaining/venting when I said I was going to look over some of the FAQs.

Thanks for the help and any more ideas/comments are very appreciated.

I like the Eureka Mity Mite Boss canister vacuum. Cheap. Small. Good suction. Small bags. No carpet brush (you don't want complex gadgets for BB to catch in). Read FAQ and search forum for vacuum tips.

Powder is likely DE, read FAQ for cautions and how to. BTW, DE should not be inhaled or vacuumed.

@Epi, Thanks. I've been looking into (with my roommates) about investing in a good vacuum. But finding one is going to be a little bit of work. The people whom the landlord pays leaves us with instructional methods prior to the spray and what to do after and it says not to heat the carpets so the chemicals are not evaporated and are said to stay within the suite for at least 30 days.

Thanks for the garage bag hints and zip-lock bag idea. (Never really thought they made HUGH ones. I'll invest into that as well.)

Looks to me I'm going to have to look into telling the caretakers and have some type of motivational talk with the tenants of the recent pandemic. I don't know if I should because I'm not the caretaker, but I feel I have to put my best foot forward on the eradication of these parasitic fiends.

About the U-Haul... By god, that's an awesome idea. I should tell my roommates about that and look into that type of exterminator in our vicinity. Thanks much.

@Acilecto, Hmmm... This just makes me think harder about talking with all the tenants, because it can't just be me and this suite... I should talk to them about a little Bed bug awareness so they don't spread it continually threw the building.

I'll take a very deep look into that area and research it throughly. Thank you for the head in the right direction.

Also thanks for the encasements heads up, so I don't think that they're a god sent to eradicate them.

@parakeets, Well there has been new tenants moving in and out.
I feel like a I got to give this apartment a good through talk of what's been going on and how we as tenants can fight this infestation.
Thank you very much.

OKAY! New question. I'm planning on investing some money into a nice vacuum cleaner. What type should I look into?
Also, I've been hearing about this powder you put on the perimeter of your house hold so no new bed bug come in threw the cracks and floor walls. Is there such a powder? And if so is there a coinciding spray for the ceilings I should know about to protect our suite?
Thanks in advance.

There's a chance prior ineffective treatment could have driven the bedbugs into the wall voids of the buiding and it is very exepnsive, if not impossible, to treat them in there. That's what happened in my building. If your building has people moving in, new tenants can bring bedbugs in. Tenants who dumpster dive, travel a lot, or do other high-risk behaviours can then re-infest a building that was treated to the point that the bedbugs were gone. Unless there is building-wide education and cooperation, bedbugs won't go, or if they go, they'll be back.

Yeah, this sucks. Maybe treatment isn't competent, your neighbors are not complying or worse, are setting off bombs. Epi answered most of your questions. I wanted to note to you about encasements. They will keep a mattress from getting infested or allow you to save an infested mattress, but they will not prevent an infestation. If BB get into your home and breed, they'll find a place to hang out (if that place happens to be the surface of the encasement, they'll be telativey easy to spot and kill). Moving requires special care to prevent bringing along your infestation. We have FAQ about these things. Welcome.

so sorry.
i do the same thing at night. i stay up late. worried to lay down.

i think they come back bc the one treatment kills lots of adults, etc. maybe doesn't catch the eggs. then the eggs hatch maybe 2 wks later or so, they molt, they grow, they get bigger, they bite and you finally see them.

The treatments have to be done every 14 days for a while. terminix gave me a deal, pay once, they come every 2 wks for 3 months. this includes spray, steaming furniture. my second treatment is today at 3. i'm so nervous though.

also, vacuum your brains out. change the bag every single time. store away all clothes you don't need in big ziploc bags. store clothes you do wear, washed in hot water and dried on high heat , in other zip loc bags so you knwo they'll be bb free when putting htem on.
Put dirty clothes in big clear garbage bags, tied tightly.

it's a lot of work. just an occasional spray doesn't do the trick and ALL parties involved have to be doing the same diligent work.

"we're all in same boat. we either sink or swim together"

Hello. I’ve seen this site and it’s been very helpful to me. This apartment has been battling bed bugs for at least 4 months. They spray and we do our best to keep our clothes and other parts of the house clean and listen to what the instructions of the professionals are, but for some strange reason they keep on coming back at least a month or two later. I’ve heard and read that they crawl through the tiniest of crevices, I’m just wondering if it is the other tenants faulty methods to follow their orders that lead to the return of this parasitic plague? Or are we not trying hard enough? We bag our clothes like they say to do and we open them and wash them a new.

We’re trying our best at our suite, yet I feel as though the others in the apartment has sub-come to this infection. Should we leave this apartment and find a house and get those fancy encasements so they won’t bite us? Or will this cause an out break at another house hold and just make it worse?

I’m in such distress about the whole thing. Lately we’ve found them, on our clothes, crawling on us late at night. I’ve found two already. And my other roommates have found at least one on there clothing or under their garments biting them repeatedly untill they feel them.

I have such a fear of them, I stay up all night worrying about my roommates and why I can’t help them and do better for them. I know there is no quick cure for this reappearance of beg bugs, but I grow weary, thinking that the time they come in and spray and I come back and I think they’re gone, only to have the rude awakening of these red welts on my body. I just wonder if there is something I can do as a tenant to make this extermination go by faster and easier so there “return” does not happen again.

What should I do, it’s late and I know they’re waiting for me to come back to bed so they can bite me. I just need so much help... Thank you in advance. (Sorry for the life story.)
