Hello. I have been batting b. bugs for about 4-5 months, and am fairly knowledgeable about them. I thought I had finally eradicated them after moving and not seeing any bugs or signs FOR A MONTH. However, I think they are back. I continue to get small, very tiny clear round bumps on my body. They don't itch very much at all like a normal b. beg bite; they just itch for one month then i find a clear round little bump within a couple minutes. The bumps usually go away within 10-15 minutes.

Are these baby bed bug bites? Do baby bed bug bites actually cause physical bumps? I know they itch but I am not sure about whether they cause any skin irritation. I am getting these tiny bumps, 2-3 times a day and am freaking out.

I am assuming I still have them and thus- am vacuuming every day, spraying rubbing alcohol on my baseboards frequently, having professionals come continue to spray, and doing an unending array of laundry. I wash my sheets every couple of days as well.

ANY ADVICE ON BABY BED BUG BITES? ANY ADVICE ON HOW CAN I FINALLY STOP THIS NIGHTMARE?

You haven't gotten an answer to your question because no one has one. Everybody reacts differently and the insects you mentioned are not related, except that they all bite humans. The similarities end there.

In fact, your reaction to the same bug/bite can and will be different because of location and your immunity or immune-suppression.

If you are being exposed to any bb sheddings in the air or on your bed this could be setting something off. I'm not sure how to deal w/ this issue because I think a vacuum (like roach sheddings) is one of the reasons they go airborne. Consider ways of reducing dust as (chitin sensitivity) can be a byproduct of BB exposure and could be helping to set off your skin. Wipe down dusty areas. I will sometimes wash exposed skin during the day if I have spent a lot of time indoors or around dust.

I agree w/ david about talking to your doctor. They may suggest stepping down to a milder OTC like Zyrtec too?

Okay, how about this:

If I react to flea bites and mosquito bites (I once caught a flea having dinner on myself), and found them to look almost identical on me, can I assume that bed bug bites would look similar?

Bedbuggery, thanks for your reply.

My welps really don't have any consistency to them and they aren't appearing everyday either. Just once in a while. But, concerned once I finish the medicine they will be back full force. I haven't changed anything thus far. I was waiting til first of the year to really go back to living what I hope to be a normal life (outside of bags, etc). If that happens that will mean I have been bite free for 3.5 months. I actually never seen a bb anyway. I think I had a small infestation with ALOT of skin reaction. Anyhow, I will keep you updated once I complete my medication to see how I do that that time.

I have posted here before....

In early September, my boyfriend, who is a landscaper, came home with bites all over his forearms, some singles, some in pairs, some in lines and groups. They were incredibly swollen and itchy. There were about 20 of them. A week later, he had more. I made him start wearing bug repellent and long sleeves to work. He didn't get anymore bites for 4 weeks after that, and in that time he had to work at other various sites.

Fast forward to after the 4 weeks: bites have returned in the same manner. It seems likely he is being bitten at work, as the bites are only on his forearms - the only exposed skin while he is at work besides his face. He only got the bites while working on a site that was in a particular mountainous area. But, since we are due to visit his family at the beginning of December, I wanted to be certain. So I scheduled the bed bug dog in.

The team came exactly two weeks ago, did a visual inspection, and found nothing. They brought the dog in to confirm and he didn't find anything either. We live in an 800 sq ft basement suite of a house and the owner, his wife and little girl live upstairs. The inspection lasted about 45 minutes, and they were very thorough. I was then convinced that he had been bitten at work by some flying bug and relaxed. I just wanted the dog to inspect for peace of mind.

5 fays after the dog inspection, I notice three small, red bumps in a line on my shoulder near where my bra strap would be. They were not itchy, I don't think. I thought they were pimples and put it out of my mind. Almost a week later, they were still there, so I tried to "pop" them. I think some pus came out, but they are quite small so it was hard to tell. They are now healing with a small scab in the centre.

I admit, I have sensitive skin, excema, mild breakouts, ingrown hairs etc., but I have never "broken out" on my chest/shoulder area. I now have about 6 or 7 of the same bumps on both sides of my shoulder/chest area. Is it possible that I have just "broken out," or is it too much of a coincidence? Should I see a doctor, or have another inspection? I think maybe right now, I just need some peace of mind again :(

Yes please! Let us know what you discover - I may go and get one of those traps too and hope beyond hope that it's a mite getting me. I awoke this morning with 2 new bites showing up and I'm approaching wit's end - alas I am not having the same symptoms as earthangel though - I feel nothing 'crawling' on me at all.

No fleas. Three PCO firms treated my apt. for BBs. Nobody's found anything. I definitely have terrestrial crustaceans, but they are supposed to be "harmless". I fall in the mystery bite category. I self treat with DE and Ortho Home Defense Max. Both help a lot, but neither are the cure. I'm able to function. Now that DE Results is no longer available, I'm concerned my level of control will decline.

Thanks so much, No BugsOnMe, that is exactly what I am doing as my next step, and as soon as possible. I hope Lou Sorkin will be able to find a moment for me to go show him this sample.

I'd also like to know if anyone has a recommendation in New York for someone who is experienced with bird mites-bird fleas-bird lice. I don't like to believe all the extreme pessimism on some bird mite sites, but all of that makes me want to be very careful, which I think has slowed me down, fear of having somebody in here who doesn't know what he's doing and makes it worse.

Because it is really really ill terrible as it is. It is painful and itchy, it's disrupted my whole small apartment, the guy who will listen to me talk about invisible bites from invisible bugs. It is also very hard doing all this endless laundry.

If you have a reco, of yourself or someone you know or know of who knows bugs that come form birds and rodents, please send me a message, and if for any reason you want discretion from me be sure you will have it.

If the bumps aren't consistent or constant it sounds more like a skin reaction than a bite reaction.
My problem was anaphylaxis and asthma and this got worse when I had positively gotten away from bugs by sleeping in a trailer. Your immune system may be overworked or something. This is going to sound weird but try a cooling rinse on trouble areas before leaving the shower and see if it helps. That helped w/ my hives. What also seems to happen is that your immune system gets revved up and your dormant allergies surface... i.e.; dust, detergent, pets, mold, maybe pesticides :P Also, bug your doctors (no pun intended:) let them know something is going on here that is abnormal for you so you make an impression on them. We are the guinea pigs for the medical community and the more data we give them the better.

And of course, there is always the possibility you are getting bit... have you brought any questionable items back into the room?

Thank you for the suggestion. I looked it up, but that does not appear to be what I have. What I have really looks like someone poked me with a pin. just a tiny pin hole or tiny red speck. and then it goes away in a few days. Also the tiny red dots are itchy when they appear.

This is one thing I have been struggling with... at first I thought maybe I had some skin condition, but I'm fairly sure now that they are some sort of bite. I recently went on a business trip, and the whole time I was away, I had no problems.

I know they say bites look different on everyone, so it is very hard to tell, but I will try to post a picture next time anyway...

Oh, where to start...

I have been reading BedBugger.com for many months now and finally came to the point when I need some extra support. I have been fighting this problem for 6 months and I think most friends, family, etc. have run out of genuine empathy :(

A little background: My infestation began in June when someone in my building brought in the bed bugs. By the time we realized what was happening much of the building was severely infested. I had 3 professional exterminations and was extremely vigilant/borderline OCD about preparations and aftercare. I moved to a new apartment in August and just held my breath waiting for them to reappear. I had about 2 months of peace and only a few questionable bites (versus the undeniable mosquito-bite-like ITCHY welts that occurred before), and then I woke up one morning with the familiar old bite.

Since then I have been getting 1-2 bites per week, some pimple-like, some splotchy red marks, some very slight welts that go away within a day or two. Sometimes I'll go a week or two with no marks at all! No bites have been undeniable except for the first one, and NONE itch (which is very unlike my previous reactions). Every time I start to feel hope begin to creep in, I get a new bite and I feel like giving up altogether.

So...1) Is there ANY explanation apart from still having bed bugs (I know there are no fleas, mosquitos, or a significant spider infestation)? 2) Why does my skin suddenly react so differently to the bites now that I am in my new apartment? 3) Wouldn't I be getting more and more bites each week if the problem were bed bugs? 4) Am I just going to stop reacting altogether (or has this possibly started) and I am potentially covered in bites I don't know about?!

Thank you ahead of time for any thoughts, advice, or support.

P.S. I have been applying Diatect Results indoor insect killer for the past 4 weeks with no significant results, and have found no evidence of bed bugs during my application of the dust.

I have searched my apt for bed bugs, and had an exterminator come twice, but still found nothing resembling a bed bug. Yet, I still seem to have some kind of bite. However, they look different from most bed bug bite photos I've seen. I'm trying to figure out what this is before I go crazy!

I don't have a photo right now, but here are the symptoms... it looks like a tiny itty-bity red pin prick. Some are so small, I almost can't see them. And it isn't raised on a bump at all- the skin around the red dot is flat, but I can see that the red dot is actually a little hole, like a bite.

They don't usually come in clusters grouped together. I will find one single one on my thigh and one on my arm, or stomach, or calf. I don't always get them late at night. I can get them while I am sitting on the couch eating dinner. But I do also see to get them when I am under my covers asleep.

But I never find a bed bug! What could be biting me?! I am feeling so crazy, and everyone thinks I am crazy!

Thanks to anyone who responds!

Okay. I need some much needed help. I have not been bitten since middle of September. I do believe that I have my infestation problem under control (at least I hope). I had a pretty bad reaction in my opinion. First I had the rash then it changed to welps and some were small and some were pretty large as in 4-5" long and 1"wide. I have been to the doctor and he prescribed steroids but as soon as I would finish the steroids my welps would return. They put me on a cream and another medicine and it has helped until a couple days ago. Now the welps have returned but not as many and not as large and normally gone within 24-36 hrs but new ones come somewhere else.

For the individuals that have had the allergic reactions. Is this somewhat normal to keep having these welps after being bite free for 2 months? I inspect myself DAILY for new bites but haven't seen any, so I'm pretty sure I'm still reacting to the original bites, but would like for some of the more experienced people to confirm that for me.

I now have collected at lest ten extremely tiny things (with a magnifying glass I can affirm they are "bugs," and not "specks," but too small to see more that way) and am hoping to get them identified soon. They are smaller than the period at the end of the sentence on this computer screen.

Hi earthangel,

I hope you will get the samples identified by an entomologist soon. University extensions are good places to try, and large pest control firms often contract an entomologist or have one on staff.

You need to get the sample identified and get proper professional treatment for whatever problem you are experiencing.

Do people generally find these mystery bites are not like their original bed bug bites?

Periodically I find the tiniest little welt, maybe a red bump, come up after a very mild itchy sense. They're maybe in pairs (and sometimes that's even stretching it) once every 100 times. I freaked out about them at first, and they did get worse as I'd stress. I generally talk myself down from the ledge, so to speak, now when I find them, and do sometimes find they come up in dry/cold weather, when I'm stressed or upset, or anything that isn't optimal for skin condition. Before I moved to this new apartment, I, too, would get that strange pinching bite with nothing to show, nothing to see, etc. etc.

In my case, I'd guess the pesticides, over-showering/washing of clothes, and general exposure to bed bug related things have pushed my skin to react to nearly everything. Keeping in mind how different my original bites were helps me relax a bit, and when time goes by from noticing a mystery bite with no actual signs since also goes a long way.

I have made some progress since I posted last.

At the very kind suggestion of KillerQueen, I ordered this flea trap

http://www.safehomeproducts.com/shp2/sc/shopexd.aspx?id=269601&PLC=1&GFM=41&referer=http://www.safehomeproducts.com/shp2/product/victor-ultimate-flea-trap-uses-glue-and-light/insect-control/269601/269601.aspx&EOR=x&ESR=2&dir=shp2&b=ff2c&w=1024&h=576&f=N&tp=1829&frompg=99&topg=99&menupage=1011

(it's about $13) and placed it where the infestation is worst. I now have collected at lest ten extremely tiny things (with a magnifying glass I can affirm they are "bugs," and not "specks," but too small to see more that way) and am hoping to get them identified soon. They are smaller than the period at the end of the sentence on this computer screen.

From the ten thousand pages of internet reading I have done, I am guessing they are bird mites, bird fleas, or bird lice -- but who knows.

From talking to KillerQueen and reading some more, I think they may get in to my high-rise apartment because of a person who scatters TONS of birdseed around the building, inviting birds to hang around and wait for her and excrete things. Anyhow check for bird problems, nest problems, rodent problems, anything that might eventuate in bugs looking for a new host.

Meanwhile I can offer these daunting but for me necessary interim strategies until I get an ID and a PCO:

Settle on a manageable set of clothes you'll wear and launder, and keep them away from your other stuff. When you undress every day, put everything you had on into a floppy "tall kitchen trash bag," tie a slip-knot in its neck, and toss this into hamper.

Wear each item of clothing only once. Wash everything in hot water with ammonia and Borax, and dry on hot setting. Technique of drying only, which people use for bedbugs, does not seem to work, tried it for an hour with some coats and they were still itchy.

Needless to say, pick things that will stand the laundering. I've been surprised at how many things can take being washed and dried hot.

Never re-use the white bags as you will re-infest everything. I put clean clothes in clear-colored bags so I don't make a mistake and can see them. I sort them by -- work clothes, nightclothes, casual clothes, exercise clothes, underclothes, coats. I put most black clothes in separate ziplock bags with labels, as they all look alike in a pile! And my "set" of clothes is mostly black because they all can go together.

Wash hair and body with Selsun Blue, the more expensive variety which says it is very medicated. Blue with red top.

After shower, spray body, hair, with Listerine, and then rinse it off. And then spray whole shower area and bathroom with Windex. In general Windex seems to knock them down or "direct kill." If I don't do it, I feel the f-ers hopping around in the bathroom.

Windex does not destroy many things (furniture, clothes - NOT good for skin, lungs, though) and seems to provide temporary control.

For shoes - I swish 91% rubbing alcohol in them, then stuff the toes up with an alcohol-soaked paper towel, then put shoes in plastic bag in the freezer at least overnight.

Never wear the same bedclothes. I supplemented my normal stock of nightclothes with some stuff from EBay and Kmart.

Make yourself a few spray bottles of rubbing alcohol, carry one, keep a few handy, when something bites you, spray that spot immediately. If you're out and feel them in shoes, you can spray your socks/feet. Or any other part of clothes/body. 91% alcohol also seems to "direct kill" them.

I keep white bags now in my purse or tote bag, and if I go to visit someone I put my coat and purse in them. And of course I am especially 100% all-clean when I go there. I generally say, "there is something in my apartment that's making me itchy, I don't know what it is, I don't want this stuff sitting around in your house."

I apologize for bringing up this old thread but I am now experiencing this as well and just wanted to add another voice to those here in this thread. I have been given the 'all clear' twice over now by two K9s - have no bed bug evidence, and yet strange mystery bites appear on me randomly throughout the entire day (between 1 - 5 bites) anywhere they please.

In my case I have not ever seen an actual bug before I began my treatment - nor was there any other proof of them save for two dogs (separate days) that alerted to their presence in my apartment after I was getting strange bites showing up. I realize that it's not the best thing to treat for them without finding them, but there you have it.

So I too am now left wondering the same things as LosingMyMind indicates below:

LosingMyMind - 6 months ago »
Thanks Bugged18,
I think the thing that is driving us more insane than the bites, is the uncertainty of EVERYTHING. We can never come to a conclusion on anything as far as it's all concerened. Is it bed bugs? Is it mites? Is it an allergic reaction? Do they live in one room? Are they in many rooms? Did the DE kill them? Have we had them long? Is this a bite or a pimple or something else?

Although in my case the reactions are the opposite as what LosingMyMind posted. My initial bites were terribly itchy and lasted for months (I still have the initial group of 20 that are around my ankles) however the new bites I get these days itch for the first 10 minutes then fade to small red bumps - fading away in 12 - 72 hours later.

Hey Icantdothisagain,

I actually don't own a box spring or frame. Both were thrown away weeks ago - I just have the mattress now, encased in a protect-a-bed (no holes in it that I can see).

Yesterday I examined all of the outlets/switches in my bed room again with a flashlight/magnifying glass with no luck. Checked the bed and nothing, peeled up the carpet edges and found nada, and there is nothing in the only other piece of furniture (a bookcase) that I own in that room. I've scoured all the doodads in there and there is not a single trace of them - perhaps it is just taking a long time for all of the bites to show up, or perhaps some other invisible bug is getting me or the bed bugs really are invisible!

Over the last three weeks since I started getting bitten I have yet to see a bug, and no debris, though I did see what I determined was a cluster of eggs. Yet, Im getting lots of bites, the dog sniffed serious infestation. My CAT has been scratching like she has fleas, though only occasionally, for about 2 months now. I have not been able to figure it out. I've heard they will bite cats if no humans around, but it seems like they started on my cat- if its bed bugs. I feel like I also must have mites, but nothing fits any profile I read about them. If my cat had mites she would have mange.

My scares are starting to itch they have been healed for about a month.. is it possible for them to still be reacting to the bites .. or could it be something else. I don't itch anywhere else on my body just the scares and they are really itchy. I do think I have A BB bite on my arm but it doesn't look like the other bites I got from the BB and doesn't itch..

Aye, that I am! I wanted to rule out bed bugs as the culprit some months back, so imagine my surprise when the dog alerted to them! I had another inspection done by a different handler/dog (same company) which had the same results too. As such I decided that I would go ahead with the treatment of the apartment.
During this entire process I still have not seen a live bug, any eggs/shells, or any blood stains/specs. The bites however continue - and have continued throughout the entire process - I haven't been spared a single day so far. (Every day I get roughly 1 - 5 bites). The past two times they have come out though I have been given the all clear - so I *should* be in the clear. It's for that reason that I was curious if anyone else might have an idea as to what it could be? I've heard some tales that bed bug bites can be delayed up to 2 1/2 months after first being bit, and that their bites can cause you to react to other things too. I'm hoping it's one of these things and not invisible bed bugs that are currently feasting on me. :)

Rip out the paperish batting under the box spring, if they are hiding as it sounds, you will likely find them hidden in there. I know i did!!

Please someone give me some advice!!!

I had bed bugs about 2+ years ago. I hadn't had them since. But back then, I used massive amounts of Lysol to kill the gigantic nest that was on my bed skirt between the mattress and the wall. (This nest was the length of a western King size bed. and the 24 inches of bed skirt that hung from the box spring) I had originally found the nest when I went to move the furniture around in my bedroom. I was disgusted (to say the least) I cannot handle insects whatsoever! I will literally be sick to my stomach! (And was)

I had boiled my clothing and all sheets and blankets, I used highly toxic industrial cleaners on all the beading that I had. I used antiseptic cleaners on my body and scalding hot water to shower. (Yes it burned like hell, but it was the only thing that took the skin crawling sensation away.)

I had finally thrown out my bed and box spring with the words written in permanent ink DO NOT USE, BEDBUG INFESTATION. The garbage men gladly disposed of the old bed. I had moved. And from that point on there were no more nasty venomous bugs eating at my body.

Now 2+ years later I found my duck down comforter that I had stored away in a plastic bag that was knotted off for all this time. I put it on my bed, and when I woke up this morning I was itchy! I have tiny little red dots around my wrists! I feel like there is something crawling all over my body but I cannot see a thing. I stripped my mattress down to nothing, flipped my mattress and box spring and there is nothing no black marks no little bastards running around, nothing I looked inside the duvet cover nothing there I am one step from slitting open the blanket to see if they are hiding among the feathers.

Can someone please help me? I cannot go through this again! Does it sound like I have them AGAIN? Could they live in storage for it would be about 2years and 3months max? Please get back to me....

Now I am really nervous, I have also been given the "all clear" by one of Action's dogs. Haven't seen any or any bites so I should be confident in the dog's findings.
But the week before the dog was here my son had 2 bites on the back of his neck. (I guess it could have been something other than a bb bite).
I do find myself inspecting myself and the kids for any red mark, bump ect.
Are you doing all this and have never found a bug?

Answering some of my own questions in case anyone comes back to this to take a look:

[1] - I missed the tag on the protect-a-bed cover. All it takes is simply washing it in hot water in the washer machine, and giving it time to dry on medium in the dryer. Took about two hours all told to do.

[2] - The scabies medicine did nothing for me (it was a permetherin cream which is applied from head to toe). Oh well - it was worth a try I suppose. I had washed all of my bed stuff (encasement, covers) before hand as well. At least I can rule out mites and/or scabies (which I didn't think it was anyway).

[3] - The bites continue. I am hoping now that they are not bed bug bites but something else, although I am beginning to lose hope. I have been cleared by Action's bed bug dogs twice now (two different dogs as well) so I *should* be safe as far as I can tell. Alas for me though the new bites that appeared this morning seem to disagree! I will continue to monitor for bugs (I still haven't seen one of them) until the bites stop, or I find a live one. It has been just over a month now since the second PCO visit - five weeks since the first treatment, and three months since the bites first began appearing on me.

I may not be a professional but I do have eczema and BB and do know the difference..eczema Is usually in the same place at least it is for Me and My daughter.. BB bites are MORE itchy and welt looking..And smaller than the BB bite.. I use Rubbing alcohol then hydrocortisone with aloe for both..it helps a lot and can be purchased OTH instead of Paying for the prescription..

My dermatologist told me bed bugs are an urban myth. There is a lot of agreement among us bedbuggers that the derms are of no use. There are many postings about it if you can find them (on the forum front page, look in the category for skin issues).

However, my daughter can tell her eczema from a bite. Isn't the eczema usually in the same place? That should be a dead giveaway.

Good luck. You have lots to deal with. Hope your bugs are dying/dead. Keep posting.

Not for want to change the subject, aren't you in a house? Can you consider steaming or thermal rather than chemical? In a private home, you have more options.

Thank you, bait. I totally agree that facts are empowering. I just feel totally confused and POWERLESS not knowing what;s going on with me. I have always had eczema, which is exacerbated by stress, and this situation is obviously stressful. I can't tell what is a bit and what is the eczema. I think my baby still has bites though. Today we went to a dermatologist who said they're probably not bites bc bites are usually bigger. Sigh. Sad when even the dermatologist doesn't have all the facts. She also said she couldn't do a biopsy bc my bites are all scratched up. :(

Hey everyone,

A very quick sum up of things to this moment. Back in August I suddenly began getting extremely itchy bites around my ankles/feet with a few bites on my upper legs as well. I thought they may have just been chigger bites due to walking around outside the day before in some grass.

Called a bed bug exterminator who uses a dog team - the dog alerted to a few places. Another sweep with the same company, but different team confirmed the first and also showed them in other locations in my apartment. (No one ever found a live bug, egg, skin, or stains). I decided that I would be treated anyway. During this time I was receiving about 1 - 2 bites a day (occurring in the morning hours - roughly around 6:30am is when they would begin to itch and appear).

A week after treatment the bites were continuing (showing between 3 - 4 a day) and showing up either at 6:30 - 7:00pm, 3:00-3:30am, or shortly upon waking (6:30am). I never saw anything bite me, never saw a live bug, no blood stains, no eggs. My apartment was again scanned and 0 alerts!

For the next three weeks however the bites continued to show up - as above - right on schedule. 1 - 4 bites a day at the times posted above. It didn't seem to matter what I was doing, they would magically appear during those time intervals. Yesterday the company returned (so roughly a month after the first 0 alert scan) and scanned again with the dog team that alerted roughly 12 times before - and again there were 0 alerts/hits. This morning I awoke with another bite on my stomach, and another on my left forearm.

So I was wondering since I haven't found a single bed bug, skin, egg, or stain what else could it be? The bites are usually singular and show up anywhere on me (legs, stomach, arms, etc) save for my face. They seem to always show up at certain times as well which is very odd. I did notice that I have carpet beetle larvae - but I have rubbed them on my skin and had no allergic reaction (I also would think that the allergies to them would appear all over me, and not as single bite like marks anyway). I've scoured my apartment with a flashlight/magnifying glass and found no trace of them. Anyone have any ideas what else it could be?

My doctor gave me scabies medicine to use - and now that I am in the clear I intend to use it tonight (I have to remove the bed cover and clean it - something I was hesitant to do without having another 0 alert result). Oh - for that matter how does one clean a protect-a-bed cover? I was intending to put it in the wash/dryer, but I am worried that may not work. Anyway, thanks in advance for any responses!

Soscared, everybody's bite reaction is different. In my case, effects from a
bite appear within 12 hours. I have more than just "bite-like" marks: I also have insomnia, blood smears on sheets, distinct bite wounds, scars and discoloration, an occasional sharp 'pinch', twitching sensation (on my back) and lots of itch. These seem to be typical effects. I have one or all each day. Each of these symptoms have their own duration, but by 24 hours my bites calm down.

Chemicals can cause reactions, however, I think the likelihood is far greater, given the circumstances, that you're still being bitten.

I don't want to alarm you, but I believe having facts and understanding your predicament can be empowering.

I have read everywhere that people can show bites anywhere from hours to 9 days after being bitten. But HOW MANY people tend to show them later rather than earlier? Is it common? Or is it that 98% of people show them within hours, and only a tiny sliver show them days later?

Also, how common are bite-like reactions to pesticides? How possible is it really that things that look like bites are not bites, but reactions to chemicals, after 3 professional PCO treatments?

Thank you.

I would also like a packtite, but they are expensive. We are going away for a few days and I would like to put the luggage in the packtite when we get home. I'll have to see what my husband thinks. I did order the zipbags to put our luggage in when we are at the hotel.
I had a bb sniffing dog here today and was told the house is free of bb. I hope that is true.

The school felt it necessary not to disclose who had them and said that they would handle it ... There in a better mind frame than i am right now so ill trust them... I am not sure how they handled it... I never followed up maybe they did it behind closed doors quietly ...BUT I did find out a couple of other kids in the school had them.. a little birdie told me..I had to tell the kids not to talk about it to friends if they wanted to talk to some one other than me They could go to the councilor or the principal of there school.. I had to tell the school just in case... I don't want DFCS (Department of family and children services) to get involved cause my kids have bites on them... besides I am already one bed down from all the kids having there own beds...
That electrician must be an awesome dog lover to take his dog to work with him hun....lolololol ...We live in a home that has been in the family for over 60 years and we just started to clean the attic out when We found out we had BB... There was a lot of old stuff up there... we tossed almost all of it... the rest we put in the shed out back I think I am going to toss most of that too... Nothing is usable and It is probably infested with BB any ways...I was really nice to get the house this organized... I love it... I got to throw out stuff that was never used...Junk from the 40's I was going to take it to the cotton pickin festival (10 mile festival with lots of old stuff for sale)and sell it all cause i know it may be worth something but I cant now... I hate having stuff that you never use... now my attic is clean and my House is organized... I did have to throw out some of the toys... but I didn't have to throw out many... I washed all the big stuffed animals (barney for the lil one) and dried them for 2 hours and bagged them.. tossed a few The kids didn't want.... I have a lot of stuff treated and bagged... I really need a packtite... it would be so helpful... Finances can handle that payment on top of all the others right now But I am planning to get one hopefully soon......

It is crazy that my kids don't know. They do ask a lot of questions and I make up a lot of lies For example when they were coming up the driveway from the bus, the guy with the bb sniffing dog was just leaving, when they asked who was that I said "an electriction and isn't it crazy that he takes his dog to work with him" or say stupid things like "because I said so" Are your kids telling their friends at school, that is another reason I don't want them to know.
I am also a stay at home mom I spend way to much of my time obsessing over these bugs. My house has never been so clean and organized. i have thrown out so much that there is no clutter. I do the laundry as soon as someone takes off their clothes. To walk into my house no one would ever think their are bb in it.

Hi,

Just had my second treatment on 11/7. Last night was the first time I slept in my apartment. Metal bed, encasement, white sheets (laundered last night). I woke up this morning and there were two black streaks at the foot of my bed. Slept almost completely covered last night (but no socks). No bites today. Perhaps I didn't inspect the sheets for existing marks before I put them on the bed but I can't be sure. Please advise.

I really fell like getting drunk cause I know it will take away the problem temporarily, I really don't want to do that ...
I have been only going through it for a short period of time BUT it seems LIKE years...
Man on your boobs... I got bit on my throat last night... It really itches...I rubb it with my 50% alcohol It helps a little... then hydrocortisone,,, wish I was non reactive like my hubby... I am really exhausted...
It seems like the self treatment was working better than the professional treatment... it really sucks I have to be at the mercy of a professional.... Why cant they just make BB bombs.. At least that way it would get the whole house..and I really could deal with that.. Two weeks and it would be done in my situation at least..
The district manager at Orkin is coming himself to spray witch makes me fell a little better... but not much...I wish BB were more know to the professionals especially in the boon docks where I live...to many people trying to make a buck off the fear of others in my opinion...The phantom bits have stopped which is a good thing.. I got maybe 2 hours sleep last night... no good for a mother..I am use to it tho..
I was thinking last night that a mother who was not used to all the sleep deprivation could do something stupid an cost a life... a lot of things could go wrong... How tragic would that be...It made me even stronger and more aware for the kids... They really need me right now... Or do I really need them ... BOTH.....

But it is very frustrating, just don't give up and keep doing what u doing and stay strong. I'm trying my hardest to stay positive myself, I been seeing some marks on my breasts, I think the little freaks been sucking on them, but I dunno the bumps go away fast, and some turns into like a rash.

LOL Vell I needed that... Dang I hate this just when I was starting to be hopefull that I was winning.... I knew they were going to come in FORCE... Just like they did... I bet they were hidding in the dark just like A predator and when He went to bed They attacked... This kinda life sucks... I could just walk away and start fresh But than all my work an money would be for nothing...which I really could live with right now...let some one else deal with it all.
I am A stay at home mom right now an If I was working I would go insane with all the stuff you have to do.. I purchased gallon sized zip lock bags and now I am starting to bag each outfit of the smaller kids outfits individually.. It makes it a whole lot easier and I know that the other clothes wont get re infested... I bag mine and the older kids individually in 13 gallon bags too.. Thank god i still have 80 percent of the clothes and blankest in vacuum sealed bags... I fell like I am being so wasteful with that too. But so what I have to do it...I had to pull out the 2nd set of sheets for the beds and an after I wash and dry I bag each one individually .. Paranoid NO just just don't want to re infest any thing....
2manybb
WOW you are brave not to tell your kids My kids would be like WHY MOM JUST WHY... it would be why all the time..I would have a hard time coming up with all the excuses on top of dealing with the infestation..
that really sucks That your son may have a bite after that long I would be crying just like I did this morning........ What do you use on the bites... I am thinking about throwing a lot of the toys away .. Just cant treat them all besides Christmas is coming...
I started getting the phantom bites again... or WAIT.....NO it wasn't one just my hair... I'm getting it all chopped off all 18 inches..man this sucks.. all I want to do is scream...an on top of it all which is a whole other story My baby's (WE adopted her)Bio mom is pregnant again and is due in 5 weeks and wrote me a letter saying "I may want you to take this one too.." I will for the kids sake Cause she is not a very good person...
Too much pressure I am sick of it all... I got to get this taken care of real quick.. but I cant...But I am going to really try..*as the Life goes IN reverse * there goes the light at the end of the tunnel..back to square One...

Hi,

There has been a fair amount written on this subject over the years but to give you a summary:

Bed bugs are capable of biting through thin material - it is one of the ways that they can be fed in captivity, in the wild / more natural environment it is not usual behavior for them and they almost always go for exposed skin.

Bite responses can be delayed and triggered by other factors such as environment and temperature, therefore it is possible to get bitten during the night and the bite to only appear later in the day.

Bed bugs are mototaxic organisms and they don't like living on non solid surfaces, as such they are unlikely to live in or on clothes unless the infestation is heavy and there is too much competition for food, this usually takes 9 - 12 months.

Far from being stupid creatures bed bugs are highly evolved and highly inelegant, they have survived on this planet longer than humans as a species and have found a perfect niche in feeding on humans.

If you even suspect fleas please use a plug in flea trap to identify them, its the most effective way of dealing with the odd rogue flea that gets into a property and is extremely cost effective.

Hope this clears things up.

Rather than biting through clothing I suspect what they're doing is crawling under the clothing. You've seen how flat they are.

I think it's better to leave your forearms and lower legs exposed so they won't crawl up onto your face.

I've killed close to 200 (around 40 adults and 160 nymphs) in 12 days and haven't seen one in 7 hours so I think perhaps I am close to eradicating the pests. Hatching eggs remain a possible problem.

^^ the same thing happens to me. it doesnt help that my bites dont show up until HOURS after ive woken up, showered, gotten dressed and gotten on with my day. i constantly feel like im being bitten in the middle of the day. even if im wearing freshly hot washed + hot dryed + straight outta the ziplock clothes that should for all intents and purposes be 'uncontaminated'.

so, yeah, i feel you :/

My cats were getting bitten when our infestation was really bad (before we knew what was going on). One cat didn't react, but it seemed like the other (who is also a fastidious groomer) was reacting badly. She pulled out most of her fur, poor thing. The more fur she pulled out, the more bites she got. Once we started treatments, her fur started to grow back so I assume that as the population decreased, so did the frequency of her bites. Also, we put them on Revolution and subsequently Advantage Multi. Both seemed to help. We are now (hopefully) down to a few bb's and the cats both seem fine. Wish they had spot treatments for people!!!

Our cat has a red welt on the inside of one of his ears that looks just like our bites. It's not in a series the way that bed bug bites usually appear, however, so there's no certainty.

That said, I think it is possible that he's been bitten, for what it's worth.

We're certainly treating him as though he may be carrying them unknowingly and bathing him thoroughly before he goes back into the treated apartment.

My understanding is that they can bite through clothing but that they prefer not to.

We've heard many, many stories about people going to bed in long sleeve shirts, pants, socks, and even gloves, only to then develop bites on their faces because that was the only exposed flesh.

I know that some of the bites I got were places that had clothes covering that skin while I was asleep, although more of the bites were on skin that was exposed.

Once you know about bed bugs, it's very common to think you feel things crawling on you when you don't actually have things crawling on you. In short, you become hypervigilant. After a while, I realized that the "things crawling on me" sensation was actually the air stirring the fine hairs on my skin--which happened all the time even though I didn't notice the sensation until I started worrying about the possibility of bugs all the time.

Very enlightening an I am so sorry but I really had to laugh at how stupid the bug is...It seem you have gotten to know there habits very well...The funny thing is I haven't found any in the night or early morning ( I wake at all hours by habit..)(Kids)(now BB)I did found two unfed babies two days ago At 1 in the afternoon.... Panic mode....me or the kids have not been bitten at all... I... think... We dont have any bit marks.... I had a friend tell me that one bit them through there clothes...I think if the clothes are thin and light enough they might... just think about it.. You have to have a special Encasement... WHY... cause they can poke there needle through it And take you blood with out permission... Doesn't the DR even have to have permission to do this..... I hope I am wrong but This is my thought for now... BB are stupid...
It has been A week and 6 hours since my first treatment...

I don't think they can bite through clothing, or perhaps they're too stupid to try.

As you observe the bugs over time you learn more about them and will get better at spotting and killing them. I had bugs coming out near the head of my bed so I just rotated my position and now they come out at the foot. They're too stupid to know I moved. And they're easier to kill now, being further away from their food source (me.)

I started getting up around 3 a.m. when I learned that they are the most active around this time (anywhere from around one to three hours before sunrise is when they seem most active.) I'll get up, turn up the light, and wait for them for at least 2 hours. For awhile I was killing 12 to 15 bugs per morning. After doing this for eight days I was "only" seeing 4 or 5 bugs per morning; and fewer big ones. Today was day 10 in my battle against the bugs. Yesterday I thought they might be totally eradicated but I did execute 2 young adults and one nymph.

Since I'm seeing fewer bugs as I continue getting up early to hunt them, I suspect it is possible to get rid of them this way. It's just a mathematical game of killing them faster than they can reproduce.

I have searched the internet over and cannot find anything telling if bb's can bite you through your clothing. I found these creatures in my bed end of August and have been battling them since, not realizing they were also in my SUV, which I believe to be where they started since my mothers bldg became infected and I had been doing her laundry at my house for months by then, transporting it with my truck. So I think my battle has gone longer than it would have since I wasn't aware they were there, surely carrying them back in with us. My daughter and I are the only 2 in the house showing reaction to them and both have gotten bitten on our bottoms! Always in areas that had been covered with clothing when other skin was exposed. So does anyone know if they do get to you through your clothing or is it my dogs fleas that decided to eat on us too? I'm going insane at my house. Having to wash everything constantly and taking nerve meds along with sleeping pills just to rest. Also I always feel like bugs are on me when they are not! What is that all about? Or feels like needles stick in my skin periodically all day long with nothing there! I have never felt so alone and defeated in my life! Become paranoid about everything! Girls up the street have had head lice and I'm convinced that's now headed our way too! Help please

We stopped feeling the bites when the weather changed - during the summer it was terrible but now we don't feel anything. Not sure if they're gone, if it wasn't mites after all, or if they're just less active because of the lower temp. I've read somewhere that can happen.

I think we'll invest in the trap KQ recommended, since I'd hate for them to be back, and worse, next summer.

It is called Victor The Ultimate Flea Trap.

I am just about to open up the box and set it up. He said it should catch mites as well as fleas, suggested I leave it in place for a week and then take it to an enomologist.

Amazon has it, but the site said it shipped "within two to three months," so I kept looking and ordered it instead from Safe Home Products, who shipped very promptly.

Do you still have them? if so I really recommend being active about getting rid of them, there are some nightmare stories out there and though my infestation is not as bad as some, it's resulted in a life dominated by endless laundry, complicated shower rituals, purchase of cleaning products and isolation of clothes, and resultant destruction of any beauty at all in my small home.,

I have been suffering for almost two months with an ever increasing itchy rash. It started with a small patch of rash on my wrist and several weeks later another small patch on my hip and lower leg. As soon as the rash started, I tried cortisone cream. After a week of that not working, I tried a topical antibiotic and then an antifungal cream. The antifungal cream seemed to help a little. After about a month of this rash, I ended up out of the blue with too frequent urination (every hour). So then I started thinking the rash and the frequent urination might be an STD or urinary tract infection. I went and got checked but the Dr. didn't find any significant amount of bacteria but gave me medicine for a urinary tract infection and yeast infection anyway. I used the medicines and felt some relief. A few days later, I was waking up with mosquito bite type marks on my upper legs and rear. The original 3 rash spots started to spread. Each day I kept waking up with new bites, welts or rashes that weren't there when I went to sleep. The bites started to itch terribly and I was feeling hot quite a lot. I got on the internet to see if maybe bedbugs were the source of my problem. So I did my homework on the internet about bedbugs. I thought maybe that was what was bothering me. My husband didn't seem to be affected despite being in the same bed.
So my search of the bed and common living areas began for this elusive biting source that was making me afraid to go to sleep. I could not find anything. Each day I would have new bites, rashes or welts. I decided to get a vinyl mattress cover and also bought bedbug/lice spray to spray around the bed and furniture. When I went to spray the mattress before placing the cover on, I did notice about eight little black pepper type dots on the stitching near the top of the mattress. I sprayed and vacuumed those up. The next morning I woke up with bites again, despite being in long pjs and socks. I would get up in the middle of the night with a flashlight to see if I could catch anything in the bed. Nothing. Then the itching started. The most terrible itch anyone can imagine. Picture a dog when he scratches and his tongue is hanging out...that type of itch. I noticed it was worse at night and after a hot shower. Now an alarm bell went off in my head. Oh, please, please don't let this be scabies...I had these 20 years ago. I picked them up from my boyfriend who had them for a while on his feet and ankles. It took almost 6 months before I showed any symptoms, but once they were there, I had them everywhere on my body (from neck down). I remeber that itch, it was the worse I ever felt and would make me want to tear my flesh away, it's horrible. I've had dry skin rashes all my life and know how to ignore an itch but the itch of scabies, can NOT be ignored. We don't currently have medical insurance so I went looking for an OTC medicine for scabies. No luck. I knew that meant a trip to a doctor that we could not afford. I did end up at the Dr.'s office and told him I thought I might have scabies, because of the rash and the itching which was worse between 2am and 8am. It came almost the same time each night. I couldn't sleep. The Dr. said it wasn't scabies that it didn't fit the TYPICAL appearance of a scabies rash and that scabies usually occurs in an area and spreads evenly and progressively in a direction on the body. I knew this was bull because when I had them, I got them everywhere, except my face, hands, feet, and hair. He said he was sure it was a ringworm fungus and then said to use a topical antifungal cream for that. I had already been doing that. He said he'd give me a STRONGER medicine and that should clear it up. I went home with the expensive cream that I was supposed to use 2x per day till gone. I used the cream for 2 days and the cream was gone. I ordered a refill double dose and that lasted 4 days. It helped a little on the rashes but then I would wake up with new ones. I was so itchy and desperate that I decided to try drastic measures. I got Clorox Cleanup and squirted it on my body. I have sensitive skin and it burned like heck. I could only stand the pain for about 30 seconds and then I washed it off. It completely irritated the rashes to the point that it hurt to touch the skin. I started washing all the bedding everyday, thinking that the fungus was re-infecting me. The rash in some spots began to dry slightly but they were painful. I called the Dr. after a week and told him that the antifungal wasn't working and requested a scabies prescription.. I asked him to prescribe extra so that I could treat myself and my husband. He told me couldn't prescribe extra (even though we are paying out of our pocket with no insurance). I was PO'd. How can a Dr. think that I could be cured by only treating myself and not my bed partner. I treated both of us anyway with the 5% Permethrin cream from face down. We washed and vacuumed. I felt a little better the next day, but by day 3, rash was spreading again.
The itching became so intense and continued to spread, so I treated again with 5% Permethrin cream about 6 days after the first treatment. I even tried to spread some cream on my scalp. For the past 2 months since the rash first started, I noticed that I was losing a lot of hair, especially from one spot on the top back of my head. I didn't know what else to do, I kept waking up with rashes, bites and the terrible uncontrollable itching and was no longer sleeping. I could feel a pin prick in areas around my body at night and then sometimes, I got the sensation of something crawling on me. It was horrible. One of the rashes on my lower leg had grown into another rashy spot and was now a huge patch of irritated, darkened, dried skin that made it hard for me to walk. It was horribly painful. Since the scabies medicine didn't seem to be working, I was at a loss for what it might be. When I had scabies 20 years ago, it never spread this fast and didn't hurt like this rash hurts. I also never got it in my hair or private areas. This rash is down there the worst. I feel sometimes like things are actually crawling from down there. Yuk! By this time, I am back on the internet trying to figure out what the heck is crawling on me. Maybe this is not scabies, then what the HECK is this? I was delirious with lack of sleep. However, I did find an extensive amount of people with the same symptoms. That was somewhat comforting because I have started to question my sanity. So now I belong to the mysteriously bitten club. Can I please get a refund on my membership? This sucks...Okay I knew I needed to go back to the Dr. again because I was out of ideas. At this time I had some other unpleasant symptoms. I got nausea one day and chills and night sweats, all the time feeling like things are crawling and biting me. Then I got to thinking that if I can't find the source of the bite, the things might actually be on me but invisible. So before I paid for another Dr.s visit, I went to Toys R US and bought a microscope that had a digital camera with it. That night I stayed up, determined to find the culprit for this. I still was convinced that something was crawling and biting me. I also read that Dr.s have Poo Pooed this as a type of psychosis. I also noticed as several people have also noted that, I am the only one getting bit and itchy and that it seems to be worse in the chair at the computer. So I did my homework and sat there at the computer with a wide roll of very sticky packing tape. As soon as I would feel a bite, I immediately put a piece of tape around the bite and then made sure it was stuck to the skin well and took it off and folded the tape in half so that if by chance there was something there, it wouldn't crawl out of the tape. I did this about 8 different times on different parts of my body including my scalp which has begun to itch terribly as well. What I found...
The photos aren't the best, can't afford a top of the line microscope, all the money is going to medicines and Dr. visits. The first night I did this, each spot that I got bit on did yield the same filament type organism in all areas of my body. It kind of looks like a piece of string. Most were the same size and a few were longer. They had to be seen under the microscope at 900x magnification. There were not a lot of these, just here and there where I felt the bite sensation. There were also, a few oval or round looking organisms that I think now may be eggs. They were difficult to see. I found it strange that each place I felt the bite sensation I would find these filaments in the skin tissue on the tape. Initially, I didn't do a skin tape test on any parts where I was not bitten so these could have been some sort of fiber that was on my body. The only thing I found strange was that they were similar in size and shape despite coming from different parts of my body. I have heard of morgellons but didn't know much about it. My first thought was maybe these are bacteria or tiny worms. I have not been well for almost 5 years now. I get re-occurring bouts with my lungs and coughing and swelling of my hands and feet, as well as stomach problems and headaches. just don't have much energy anymore. The Dr.'s I had when I had insurance weren't the best and failed to find a diagnosis. All that kept coming back abnormal was a couple of blood tests. So, I was thinking, is it possible that a parasitic worm could live under human skin? Could this be the source of the rash or maybe my re-occurring sickness. I'm not a microbiologist, so I looked into it on the internet. It turns out there are parasitic worms that do live under the skin and migrate on the host. They are not common but they do occur. So I printed my photos and put them on a jump drive and went to the Dr. I wanted to give proof that there was something under my skin that was causing sickness and irritation. The photos weren't the best but the re-occurring fiber like substance was present in each of the bite areas, also there were sometimes black round spots. You can view the photos at:
So I went to the Dr. armed with my photos because I was feeling terrible, headache, nausea, bloating. The rash was getting worse and I was developing a cough. I asked the doctor if there could possibly be a parasite that could live under the skin that could produce my symptoms. Since we had already tried the antifungal and scabies treatment. He asked if I had done any international traveling and I said I had gone to Aruba a few years ago and some domestic travel as well. He thought I should be tested for Parasites and Their Eggs. I was thinking the same thing since I was so sick. He wanted to check in particular for a parasite that can auto re-infect a person that has the worms that crawl under the skin. I have been ill for about 5 years now and when I had insurance, I didn't have the best doctors so I was never diagnosed with anything. The only thing they found was an abnormality in my jaw and some granulomas in my lungs and 2 blood tests that kept coming back abnormal without explanation.
Many of the symptoms of this particular parasite, I have had. The mortality rate of this parasite is around 33% to 90%. Most people get diagnosed with it the day they check into an emergency room and then die shortly thereafter. Since the risk was high the longer treatment was delayed and the side effects are few, I asked to receive the medicine before the results came back. The doctor gave me Ivermectin to take, it turns out this is the same medicine that is used at times for Scabies. Two days later I was still getting bit and itching, especially on my scalp. I took out my handy dandy microscope and did the packing tape thing again on different parts of my body. One piece of tape that I placed over one of the most affected areas, above my rear, yielded a series of what appeared to be tracks, possibly from droppings or eggs. The trail was evenly spaced. I followed the trail with my microscope and at the end of the trail, I found a cluster of about 6 or 7 bugs on top of each other. They had to be viewed at 300x magnification. The bugs appear to sometimes be moving in a line together, which would explain the crawling sensation I would get. There is another photo that clearly shows a bug with two antennae or legs in front and two sets of legs off the body. There was fecal matter around as well. Gross, under my skin. Now wonder why I'm sick. I now have one in my left ear and can hear movement from there when the bugs get active. I am wondering now what type of bug this may be. Since so many of the scabie type treatments haven't worked, I'm wondering if this is a whole different bug. I had scabies once before but there was just a rash and a terrible itch, never the crawling or biting sensation. It seems to help to put antifungal cream on sometimes but it still doesn't get rid of the pests. I was thinking it was scabies, so I emailed my doctor and asked for the scabies treatment again and something for my hair because it was itching from bites too. I couldn't attach a photo for the doctor but I wanted him to see these bugs so he could see that there was definitely something there. The next day I checked for prescriptions online and found he had prescribed 3 medications. One steroid cream, some moisturizing lotion and another medication I was unfamiliar with but no scabies medicine. I looked it up online, it was an anti-psychotic drug. I was so angry, here I was with definitive proof that there really were bugs under my skin and wanted him to see them and try to identify them, so we would know what to do to treat them. If they aren't scabies, then what are they? He never even looked at the photos. I've had scabies once before and I will never forget the itch, well this itch was even worse. Now I am still suffering, angry and trying alternative methods for treating whatever is bugging me. If anyone can help me to identify the bugs in the photo, please do so. These were definitely under my skin in different places. So now I just want them gone and can't get any medicine to make them go away because my Dr. says that Typically, if it was Scabies it would be gone after the cream application. But these are in my hair and I need to keep up on them so they get better and don't lay more eggs. I've had scabies before 20 years ago and never had the biting feeling that these things give. So now I wondering what type of bug this is. Here are the images:

It''s crazy the way it play a toll on your mind. I feel at times I am going to lose mine and never be the same again. I moved and I do beleive I don't have them anymore, but I still get some little bite on me too and not sure why? We have searched and torn things apart and cannot find nothing. It has been long enough now that if a few got loose they would be bigger now and crawling out where we can see them, nothing I search each night before I go to bed. My daughter came up last night and she can see better than I SO SHE CHECKED TOO AND NOTHING. I think it is my nerves. There for a little while I would itch like somthing was crawling on me I got a magnifing lense and looked when I felt it itch or bite. Nothing at all, so what I did was exfoliate my skin real good. I have dry skin anyway and then I put oil in my bath water and since I do that I don't feel like I am itching or getting bit. I am a bit concerned about the new little bumps that come up but I sometimes do that when I get nervous too. So I am still looking each night and proably will for the rest of my life.

What is the device that KQ recommended for you? We had mice exterminated last winter and following the extermination started being bitten by something we can't see whenever we cooked or sat at the computer... never left any visible bites, but itched like crazy. Based on other posts I've read, I'm wondering about mites myself...

I am pretty sure that what is torturing me and also my at-home assistant (who can't come anymore now) with bites and itches is some kind of mite. I am now also pretty sure it's from birds, as I found out our building has had a bird problem - briefly, hundreds and hundreds of them all over it at dawn daily because of someone who feeds them. Various maintenance/sanitation issues are ongoing for this well-kept nice building I live in.

They are too small to see. My question is this - if you narrow it down to chicken mites, northern fowl mites, or rodent mites - do I have to know which it is? are the treatments really different for all of those? I'll still try to catch one, I've sent for a device KillerQueen recommended, but I am going crazy with endless laundering and huge disruption in a small space, so now that I know what I most probably probably have, I want to get the most powerful PCO treatment that will do the job.

An additional reason for question - maybe I am too pessimistic, but I think I may have to "guide" any PCO I work with so I want to know as much as I can before I get mixed up with anyone. I read all the mites forums but I trust the people here the absolute most as to knowledge and integrity.

I will be very happy if someone knows a NYC PCO who can deal with mites without my non-expert help!!

Just taking off mattress pad off my very good encased mattress covering, found a live centipede curled up in middle of bed. After reading about centipedes and how they eat bed bugs, this just scares me that I have brought bed bugs with me in my move.

I do have 2 tiny tiny red welts under my arm, but this could have been caused by shaving. Have been over the bedding (now in the dryer) and found no evidence. Went over mattress and box spring encasement and could find no clues, what with my very strong LED light and large magnifying glass. But then there is the huge problem with my eyesight, so I am left wondering.....

Why would a centipede be there? Thoughts and advice please. Thanks
