This is a somewhat pointless story, but I really wanted to share it anyway. During the time that I suspected I had bedbugs, but was still afraid to check I was reading a book. The book was called Child of Darkness. It was a diary written by a single mother who lived during the 50's in the slums of Brazil. I found her diary to be fascinating, because despite the many, many differences I (a middle-class(ish), suburan chik from the United States in the year 2008) and this woman, Maria (an extrememly impoverished woman, living in unthinkable conditions in Brazil in the 1950s) there are so many issues which are universal for single women and for single mothers. She'd written so many thoughts about relationships and child rearing, etc which I've written in my own diary. Amazing....

What else we had in common which I didn't know at the time, was the bedbugs. She wrote often about trying to rest, but the bugs were bothering her. Despite all her hardship (no food, running water, etc) she devoted a good deal of her writing to complaining about the bedbugs. Now I understand why.

When her book was published, she made a great deal of money and was able to move into a house in the city. I told my PCO that I really need to find her diary from after she moved, because I want to know now if she brought the bed bugs with her. I certainly hope she didn't. Maybe the follow up diary has some BB eradication tips - lol

Saw this offer for a refurbished Roomba (vacuuming robot). As a bedbugger, I'd hesitate to bring in anything that's been in other people's rooms, especially sweeping their baseboards.

http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/11/02/woot-refurbished-roomba-530-for-130/

OTOH, wouldn't it be great if there were a machine to roam your house and snarf up your BBs while you sleep?

As I have been fighting so long I know we will never be completely free. Even if we win this battle eventually. Bed bugs will rear up again down the line until a solution is found. In the meantime I wish there were more of an open social acceptance. Plastic bags in restaurants to put your coat. Open information in laundromats. Just general acceptance so you don't feel "dirty" for having bbs. Thoughts?

It amazes me, upon learning of the various means of transporting of bb, that there isn't more outcry about this as a WIDESPREAD public health concern.

We never had any bb situation until we moved to our new apartment; they showed up 3 months later so I don't know if they were here already, or came in on used furniture or clothing, since we bought both. Or a visiting person. Who knows.

As I expand my understanding of the places that bedbugs can hide, I am shocked to think of how many potential means of infestation there are. Not just thrift stores and flea markets (what an ironic name)... but:

1) public laundromats
2) public libraries -- I doubt people vacuum their books before a return! This is a big one for me, as my husband works at the library and we are voracious readers who constantly check books out... should we stop...?!
3) dressing rooms/clothing stores
4) linen/bedding stores which allow returns, which is most of them from what I can determine
5) public or multi-person ANYTHING -- like coat racks/coat checks, or simply visiting people who pile the coats together on the bed for a party.

If a serious disease spread this easily, there would be total panic. Why is there not more being done by the city or local or state governments about this? Is it not widespread enough, or...??

Just mindboggling, the ease with which this nightmare can spread.

Was browsing in an ethnic (African) specialty grocery in a northeast USA city and came across "Super Gone" insect spray. Labeled "Made in China". Claimed DDVP (Vapona) as the active ingredient. Had a pic of BB on the label. Doubt that this went via the EPA (FWIW, I doubt that there's any DDVP in the can, either and wouldn't use it in any case). I've read at least one ento/PCO claiming that the recent surge in BBs was due to ending use of DDVP in many countries (including USA). IIRC, other than the pest strips, there's no legal DDVP in the USA for home use. Am I mistaken? Are companies allowed to import small amounts of this stuff for the benefits of expats? Is this legal? Smuggled? Counterfeit? Anyone else seen this?

I am 54 and seen a few things in life and thought they were difficult, noway compaired to beb bugs. This is totally the most rediclous thing I have ever had to deal with and I am one pissed woman !! My neighbor had them he awoke me at 1am taking his mattress out and I had no idea what bed bugs where at that time. So 4-6 weeks went by and then my son came and spent the night with me and he got ate up. I had just a few days before he visited spent two days in the hostpital for itiching, swelling so they ruled it as stress. This is bull crap my landlady didn't inform us or have our units sprayed. I am going to go to my grave getting her fired or someone is going to pay me for the stress and lose of my things, if it kills me doing it I will do it. I am trying tofind the law that governor such things with the state pr EPA, OR whoever I will find out sooner than later. I work hours each day to find some one to help me and I have recieved some help concerning the landlady. the last I heard she was telling ppl she was going to quit this job it was so hard and the new owners haven't paid her.. Yeah right I bet she soon be fired !!

I lost everything I had in cloth, I left nothing behind and sprayed and she had it sprayed one and even in my packed boxes and tubs I left open so they could spray it. I am here to tell you people I have studied this for over 5-6 weeks and the only way you can get rid of them is to get rid of your stuff and move making sure you clean and spray alcohal everywhere as often as 4-5 times aday. Vacuum is very, very important as well . I moved and got moved in and jsut felt like there were some here, so I cleaned and torn what I got left apart and sprayed again and again I have spent thousand's of dollars and I WASN'T as infested as my neighbors.. I got the hell out of dodge.. but fear I brought a egg with me who the heck knows these things are the devil.

Matter of fact I just took a shower put my clothes in a bag and doubled tied it alone with my vacuum and out it in my car so I can take them somewhere else to inspect. I WOULD ENVER JUST DUMP ANYTHING NO WAY.. It has to be done a certain way for me. I think this is what people don't understand.. there is a way you have to clean and clean and vacuum so much you are out of breath, but I cannot lay down at night if i DON'T. I have severe nerve and itching problems over this and under doctors care. I am seeking also mental health care for this has effected me in ways nothing in my life has. My whole life has been interrupted and that B IS GOING TO PAY !!!!!!

I cannot sleep with my light off and I get up 4-5 times a night to check and the cleaning the stress the itching the cost the lose the everything.. it has drove me nuts and I am not sure at this time if I will ever survive this. I have develpoed a skin disorder ( that writing on the skin thing) I can actually write on my skin and read it..

I wont even allow anyone to come into my new place I meet them at the door and my children are like Mom it is ok, I am saying it is not ok.. not yet until I feel it in my mind..

I am disabled woman and have severe breathing problem and this cleaning has just about killed me, I borrowed some money to help me out on this situation, but it wasn't enough so now I have a bank payment on a fixed income and still have to do this work. I am on oxygen half of the day but here lately it has incerased to almost a full day. Some ppl cannot come to my beack and call all the time so I have to wait until they can spare a few hours of cleaning . The company that ownes the apt. unit I lived in said you didn't have to get rid of your things you could have washed them and we come and spray once a month, yeah right he didn't his home work. I told him so you expect me to lay in chimicals which I got my disability on and lay in bugs hatching otu>>?? hum your really bright man but one with not a lot of common sense.. you dumb A--!!

Stress, stress, stress is all I can say and my lose of personal things as my grandmaws quilts well everything cloth. YOU HAVE TO GET RID OF IT PEOPLE !!!! I even sprayed my holes the bed rails go into..

GET OUT OF THE APARTMENT YOUR LIVING IN CAUSE EVERYONE ELSE DON'T UNDERSTAND WILL NOT AND I SAY THAT AGIAN WILL NOT UNDERSTAND HOW TO GET RID OF THEM. Most think you can just spray and so be it, sorry folks it don't work that way.

I am here to warn you and if you don't do it I pitty you so bad, if you want more info contact me I willlllllllllllll help you. this has to stop some where it is getting worse and worse because ppl think you can jsut cover it up. These bugs are smarter than we are.

They can lay format for 18 months........ that is over a year an a half..........I would advise EVERYONE living in a apartment to get some double sided tape and put it in your threshold and wrap it around your bedpost and aroudn your mattress and GET incasements for your mattress and box. The most important thing is spray spray and spray DON'T USE BOMB THEY RUN FROM IT AND HIDE INTO ELECTRIC OUTLETS.. come back later.. vacuum and vauum all in seams, under the funiture and I even took the backing off the new couche and chairs I got and sparayed there.

Apt. living sucks this is what you get bed bugs... I have a large farm my father left me and it is for sale and didn't want to move until I sold it, but I guess things change and just maybe for the best. I only moved into that apt. unit because I became disabled has been hell every since.

I am looking for anyone who would represent me in a law suit It isn't just just bed bugs it is non compliance, hitting tentants, letting mattress sit out by the dump for two weeks, lieing and I have tape recording of my l/lady telling ppl my persoanl business, harrassment problems with other tenants and I got restraining orders and she did nothing, and I have everthing to back this up pictures and all. And if I want to go further falsefiying records. I got it alllllllllllllllllllllll..

So if any one wants to join forces with me jump on I am ready.

Here's something that's crossed my mind more than once - up to some point, everyone I know (we're all well over 50) just about would have a story that went something like this --

--oh, when I went to Paris (London, San Francisco, etc) after college, this one place we stayed in had bedbugs - the next day I saw these bites in the mirror -- etc.

And that would be that, that would be the story - oh, we stayed in this cheap place, and we got these bits, guess they were bedbugs - absoutely NO additional chapters about having them in suitcase, having them at home, etc.

Needless to say, these people would notice an infested home.

So what do you think was the story? this really is a common story of travel, maybe in the 60s and 70s, maybe later. The only thing I can think of is -- when DDT was around, was it likelier that luggage would one way or another be exposed to it, and bugs killed? I've lived in NY a long time, and only in the past few years have I heard of anybody having bedbugs problems, and of course I hear a lot now, mostly from younger people who are renters.

I'd imagine everyone here will take pleasure in this. Among many other treats, there's an interview with a Victorian PCO, who says:

"We can trace our business back as far as 1695, when one of our ancestors first turned his attention to the destruction of bugs. He was a lady's stay-maker—men used to make them in those days, though, as far back as that is concerned, it was a man that made my mother's dresses. This ancestor found some bugs in his house—a young colony of them, that had introduced themselves without his permission, and he didn't like their company, so he tried to turn them out of doors again, I have heard it said, in various ways. It is in history, and it has been handed down in my own family as well, that bugs were first introduced into England, after the fire in London, in the timber that was brought for the rebuilding of the city, thirty years after the fire, and it was about that time that my ancestor first discovered the colony of bugs in his house. I can't say whether he studied the subject of bug-destroying, or whether he found out his stuff by accident, but he certainly did invent a compound which completely destroyed the bugs, and, having been so successful in his own house, he named it to some of his cus- tojners who were similarly plagued, and that was the commencement of the present connection, which has continued up to this time.

"At the time of the illumination for the Peace, I thought I must have something over my shop, that would be both suitable for the event and to my business; so I had a transparency done, and stretched on a big frame, and lit up by gas, on which was written

MAY THE
DESTROYERS OF PEACE

BE DESTROYED BY US.

TIFFIN & SON,
BUG-DESTROYERS TO HER MAJESTY.

" Our business was formerly carried on in the Strand, where both my father and myself were born; in fact, I may say I was born to the bug business.

" I remember my father as well as possible ; indeed, I worked with him for ten or eleven years. He used, when I was a boy, to go out to his work killing bugs at his customers' houses with a sword by his side and a cocked-hat and bag-wig on his head—in fact, dressed up like a regular dandy. I remember my grandmother, too, when she was in the business, going to the different houses, and seating herself in a chair, and telling the men what they were to do, to clean the furniture and wash the woodwork.

"I have customers in our books for whom our house has worked these 150 years; that is, my father and self have worked for them and their fathers. We do the work by contract, examining the house every year. It's a precaution to keep the place comfortable. You see, servants are apt to bring bugs in their boxes; and, though there may be only two or three bugs perhaps hidden in the woodwork and the clothes, yet they soon breed if let alone."

The whole chapter is well worth reading. Enjoy.

I've heard about some landlords putting stipulations in leases aimed at preventing bed bugs. For example, a lease saying the tenants coming in are required to purchase a brand new mattress. I just thought it was interesting and maybe a good topic of discussion. Anyone else hear about any of these measures?

Forcing people to buy new mattresses isn't going to keep the building BB free. I mean, how does he check this? What's to stop people from buying a brand new "refurbished" mattress? Do they need to provide receipts? Does he give them select stores to buy from? What about all the other furniture they bring in? I guess it's a nice thought but probably isn't going to do too much.

discuss.

A post by a passenger on a frequent flier message board about how she was bitten 7 times by a "mosquito" on a flight. Look at ridicule she gets from the other posters, especially when someone suggests it was bedbugs. This is attitude out there and why it's such an uphill fight.

An ad for "bed bug powder" (from the description it's clearly DE or some other silica variant) is making the rounds of the BB-related sites. Ad highlights "travel size".

When I travel, I want 2 things. 1. Not get bitten 2. Not take bugs home with me.

Those of us who've been here know that DE takes days or weeks to act and only against those bugs that have passed through (and some say only those with full, saggy bellies, to boot).

So, WTF would I want to DE-treat my hotel room with my travel-size "bed bug powder"?

Everything you said is right. These things can spread and spread fast, if they would spend the dollars that they spend on crap they could develop something to wipe them out, one or two visits and you're bed bug free but they don't. Problem is they look identical to cockroaches so just pause for a minute and thing how many people out there could have them and think they are roaches !!!! Only thing BedBugs are so flat that this is why they can hide so easily, can you imagine roaches are a pain but a bug that sucks your blood and digests it out again. They can be in someones car, anywhere even a wooden park bench where a homeless person could have them and sleeps.

Everything should be METAL or STEEL :) Makes me develop a new liking to METAL or STEEL furniture. "Ohhh I really like those steel chairs, that nice chrome look, just don't sit on it in the winter without heating it up :)

That's why I am wondering why all our tax money is going to be "reluctant shareholders" for a car company the other day, when after working for the man like a dog for years, we don't even have enough savings to blast a bedbug problem right off the bat... nor do we have enough money in the tax base for having already developed some feasible long term solutions with residual value.

all our pain and suffering is reduced to the fact that we are doing everything a**backwards in this world.

I am idealistic, but I imagine a world where we all decide to just stay home and take care of our own business and homes and lives for awhile. We help our neighbours, we become real communities and we let "the world" and all that other stuff just sit and wait for awhile. Sorry I am so political but i thought of this point last night. Our emerging globalized cities are in squalor.

Perhaps, I am the only one here who can find great silver linings in this entire mess.. Perhaps that has alot to do with me not being like many people out there who live on a fixed income and are casualties of the economic system and have no choice but to live in a dwelling that becomes increasingly worse....

Anyhow, I learned that I am really tired of living my life with fear, and uncertainty. That I am always thinking I can relax and be okay when such and such happens 3 or 4 months into the future. This is a false belief. We have to live for the present and not invest our entire time and energy into things which fall under a law of diminishing returns.

I learned that our society is entirely too materialistic, and this is but one thing that has mainfested itself on earth to teach us that. Love, experience, growth and transformation.. these things are to be valued.. but when we are into ourselves and define our lives so stringently by what we own, problems will develop.

I learned just to what degree the governments of the world have let us fall by the wayside as they leave us for dead. All this money they accumulate through our actions is only to help keep up the repuations of their clubs (countries) and we are merely the tools they use to do that. They take the best pictures, the best angles, the best spin to sell the greatness of a nation and ignore the tragedies and widespread suffering of the actual people living day to day.. because it doesn't fit in with the "storyline" they are trying to peddle to the world, to themselves and even to us (through media, commercials, etc).

As we lose more of the way of life we knew, and we are losing it make no mistake about that, it is beginning to usher in a new age that we can only welcome because of the greater values i hope are coming for us all very, very soon.

You always hear about that tunnel and white light that people see when they have a near-death experience.. and the wisdom and insight those people have when they recover. They can never live life the same. These are beautiful stories.. and I urge those of you suffering out there to remember that this too shall pass.. it's an experience we go through in this dimension but our directions are our responsibility and we DO have power yet. It may seem so real, but this pain and despair is just like a trick.. a hologram.. and if we were able to really understand this world in its grandness we would see it will all be okay because it always was.

When you look at a commercial and you look at real life, the difference between what you see in fantasy land and the real world is much more striking than even 5 years ago. While before, what you saw was at least attainable perhaps, these days it is not. The dramatizations in these commercials are NOTHING like real life, and the people in them live in a world devoid of bedbugs.

No mention of bedbugs in movies that i can remember. There need to be a bounty of hardhitting docs on them released! They would be fascinating to watch. The newspaper is also full of stuff which is not news... false opinions on the economic forecast, and frivolous stories about issues which really distract us from the REAL things GOING ON in our WORLD. Everything I read has a patronizing tone to it.. as if they have no clue how serious this is.. always mention of that nursery rhyme thing as if bedbugs are funny or just a nuisance.

Bedbugs are VERMIN, period. I don't need an organization to help me add up two plus two. I also don't need them to tell me that 2+2=5 either.. a total insult. The reason they are not classified as vermin is because then the organmizations would have to do more.. and they simply lack the resources to do that, because North America is slowly, or in some places quickly (like Detroit), turning into a second and even third world region.

A close relative of mine that lives in Bergen County NJ called to tell me the news and couldn't believe what she saw when she was standing on line at the supermarket. This is a large chain supermarket and has TV screens that have news flashes, commercials, recipes and such for you to view as you are waiting on line. There is wording that goes across the screen so you know what's going on as you watch.

Well as she stood there on line she is watching and reading that the "EPA is investigating on how to kill bed bugs so you don't get them" Granted this may not be exactly what it said for I'm writing this second hand from what I heard from her. But none the less, I am very please to see that not only are bed bugs being taken seriously, but also more serious on getting news to the public. I'm sure if I were the average person standing on line at the supermarket reading that the EPA was looking into a problem with bed bugs it would stick in my mind to some extent. For the average person who never knew of bed bugs it at the very least would make a person go "Hmmmm." We need to see a lot more of this.

Bitter sweet news, but at least in the right direction.

I've read in several places that it is in the last 5 years that bbs have made a real comeback. I wonder if EBAY has something to do with that. I've ordered used things off of Ebay (In my ignorant days), and never had a problem. But, I wouldn't think of doing it now. Especially since some people may knowingly sell their infested things. Just a thought.

O CAPTAIN BED! My Captain bed! my fearful night is done; The dawn is near, the bells I hear are coming from the clock, tick tock , the people all awakening, But O the bleeding drops of red left behind by the bed bugs that sail upon my bed.
Unfortunately and having grown up with one I think captain beds are great BUT not in an age of bed bugs. In one of the posts the comment is made about which type of furniture is bed bug proof. I am here to say that captains beds are among the worst as they are made of wood which bbs love, have many voids and sheltered areas and must be turned over with draws removed in order to treat and then re treat. If you are going to buy a bed captains beds and platform beds are not good choices in terms of bed bugs. Oh and Walt, sorry about the O Captain part.

It is about time someone starts educating the general public (as opposed to us, the BB aware) about how easily it is to get BB, how and where you can get them, just everything about the bugs. Everyone thinks it can't happen to them. I don't get it. My friends know me well and know how anal I am about everything, why do they think it can happen to me but not them? I have offered all kinds of advice, even typed up a BB travel protocol. Still, I see my co-workers engaging in high risk BB activity. For tha past two days, the local news in Dayton, Ohio has reported on used furniture and clothing. And, now they finally report that several schools in Dayton have the BB. Yesterday's story included the Greene County Health Director claiming 2 ONLY TWO reported cases in Green County Ohio. That is just not so or possible. That type of thing gives residents of Greene County a false sense of security, no wonder they think it can't happen to me!! I wish I could really get an educational program started on how to reduce contracting the BB and how to effectively treat for them as well. A little spray here and there just won't cut it. Anyone with ideas, let me know. We use the local TV station to advertise our business so I have some contacts there if I could come up with a comprehensive plan. They need a special presentation, at least one hour in my opinion. The local, state, and federal governments have to kick in money for this. They are bailing out the fat cats leaving the poor to fend for themselves. I am sooooo frustrated. Can you tell? someone PM me and tell me how to get the entire message on this new forum.

People going through bed bugs go through TONS of plastic. People that have already have gone through a bed bug infestation still use a lot more plastic than they used to. (At least I do)
I seen a show in Discovery Channel a few weeks ago and it really bothered me. To the point I tried to look it up to see if it had some video footage on the site. I couldn't find it, but I think this article may be is based on the same show I seen. It was truly atrocious. Then I think, with how worse this is getting due to bed bugs.

Hi - Vancouver, one of Canada's bedbug infested cities, will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. I am not promoting this anti-poverty website per se, but I was taken by their choice of mascots including Itchy the Bedbug.

The 2000 Sydney Olympics are infamous for their alleged contribution to the international diaspora of bedbugs. This is one area where I hope the Vancouver Olympics will fall short.

But I sort of blew my big chance. Chicago's ABC talk radio channel was doing a bed bug bit in response to last night's ABC story (which I missed). I called up expecting not to get through, but I did & they put me on right away. It was all so fast I didn't get a chance to think about what I was saying. Probably the only useful thing that came out of mouth was that they travel between units in apartment buildings and that by the time I had them most of the building was infested. I also mentioned having to move away in the end, but I said nothing of all the work, stress, sleeplessness or having to get rid of most of my things :( . Two callers later & the guy was saying that he doesn't wash his sheets & that caused the problem(grrr). I was kicking myself for not dispelling the dirty myth fist & foremost. Oh well, if it comes up again maybe I will do better.

Hi all! 2nd treatment today and hopefully the last! The PCO stated that I was in dire need of a new mattress immediatly. With the encasement off the infestation in the matress is awful!! He thinks that they are getting through the encasement somehow, possibly a small hole. I wasnt able to have him go over it piece by piece with me as they were in the washer.

He checked the rest of the bed frame and head/foot boards theroughly and saw no signs which was the same results as my close checking so I am satisfied there. I have purchased the new mattresses and I have a friend picking them up after work with me. I am encasing the new mattress and box spring and I am also leaving on the original plastic that the mattress comes in. I hope this is enough to keep any bed bugs out of there!

I was told to encase the old mattresses and take them out of the house. This will prevent spreading any bed bugs as the infested ones are removed. Once they are outside I was told to remove the encasements and then wash and dry them. no problemo there!! The problem is I dont have anyone with a truck to help me get them to the dump before they close today. The dump is closed Thurs. and I dont think I can find a way to get them there until Sat. when I am off work. The infested mattresses will have to be left outside for a couple of days. In my area I am not worried about anyone stopping and taking them home but I will put them way off to the side out of view from any passers by just to be safe, and I will lable them bed bug infested for added piece of mind for myself. Are there any other precautions that I will need to take with the infested mattresses to ensure that no bugs find their way back into the home either mine or someone elses? I considered wrapping in plastic but where does one find plastic big enough for a mattress and box spring and is this necessary?

You can use this in your letters to your council members! This is great, it's never happened before and it changes the climate considerably. This might be the year a bed bug task force or a bed bug education campaign finally gets some traction in our city... but it's still not going to happen unless we get our council members to pay attention.

For those of you unfamiliar, Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a pioneer of the Women's Suffrage movement in the United States during the 1800s and was very close with Susan B Anthony who also worked on the women's movement.

In any case, Mrs. Stanton while touring the countryside apparently had a row with bedbugs in one of the places she was staying and tried to sleep in a carriage to avoid them:

"..owing to the general opinion among pioneers that a certain species of insect must necessarily perambulate the beds in a young civilization." While trying to avoid them she slept in a "springless carriage," only to end up being surrounded by "those long neck black pigs" who decided to use the carriage as a scratching post.

One other movement leader also had to deal with bedbugs, but I can't find the passage now. If I find it I will post it just for the heck of it.

This has been a message from your friendly neighborhood procrastinating history grad student. I should probably go back to working on something. :)

I called the PCO my landlord was using, in an attempt to be sleuthy. I posed as a new customer and asked quesions about treatment methods. (BTW: Suspicion Confirmed - they don't know what they are doing)

Point is this: the woman told me she's gotten about 20 calls regarding bedbugs in the last 3 days. Yikes!!!!!! That's a lot of bedbugs.

so my husband and I had a very untraditional Thanksgiving yesterday. We spent the day at home in beed until noon (the kids stayed the night at their grandparents who don't seem to be bothered by our misfortune in the current situation). The baby came down with a fever monday night...the same day we got back from our weekend bb get-a-way. Turns out he had a double ear infection and his temp got as high as 104.
Anywho, we didn't have any big plans so we were going to go out with my eldest's grandparents and great grandmother to cracker barrel. Since the baby was sick we stayed home with him while everyone else went out. (They were kind enough to bring us dinner plates to go). I ran to the store and picked up some pie and wine and beer for hubby. Guinness has been his new found favorite on Tap. When I got home I was explaining to him that guinness keeps their beer fresh by putting a widget in it...thus prompting him to ask how it worked.

SO I looked it up.
DID YOU KNOW BEER CONTAINS co2????
Now if any are like my husband you relax in bed while having a bottle...
Just kinda scared me a bit...It would be like piling 15 people in my little bedroom and saying can you smell that BB? BREATHE!
He usually falls asleep before he can get through one thus the bottle sits on the night stand or computer desk...I told him he can't do that or I'll never let him have a beer for the rest of his life LOL

Comforting isn't it? Beer...just another thing that attracts our blood sucking friends.

As I'm shopping these days, wouldn't you know that there have been a lot of products popping up in stores to kill bedbugs. There are at least 4 different ones that I've seen pop up within the past 3 months. Some are squirting sprays and some are aerosol and one was a misty spray. And...in front of a store window which just happens to be an extermination business says in really big letters that like covers half the storefront window "We sell poisons that kill bedbugs." So, just outta curiosity, I went in and they sell Bedlam, Sterifab and Drione. So, I was asking questions like I didn't know anything and the person there said that Bedlam and Sterifab are for bbs, but not Drione. I thought that was very strange...!

So, I'm thinking, does this mean that a lotta people have bbs and are trying to deal w/it on their own. I had the unfortunate experience of knowing people who have roaches and just live with them. I'm thinking that these people will just live with bbs in the same manner. Because, why would they think different if they do not try to educate themselves about bbs? They will probably think that it's another "roach" problem to be dealt with.

Just my thoughts, this is not true facts or evidence but my opinion only.

I visited 5 different Hardware Stores in The Bronx today searching for Bedlam or Pronto. I asked each store owner where are the insectides located. Each and every one of them answered "bed bugs over there"! That is crazy!
