Remember the bill introduced by Michael Gianaris and passed in the NYS Assembly last May? We were happy the Assembly passed it.
But Bill A6667a later died in the NYS Senate in January of this year.
The good news is that the bill has now been amended and approved by the Assembly once again as A6667b. […]

Check out the quotation from the last paragraph of this discussion with Edith Grossman, in Book Forum, which calls her “the foremost English translator of Spanish-language literature:”
Grossman is a reader’s reader, happy to have gotten cheap paperbacks from neighborhood stores like the old Shakespeare & Co., Labyrinth Books (now Bookculture), and Papyrus (now Morningside Bookshop). […]

This Q&A in the New York Times Real Estate section brings up an interesting question.
A couple selling a New York City apartment had bed bugs six months ago. They have not noticed any problem since. So the question is, do they need to disclose that the property they’re selling had bed bugs recently?
Jay […]

Jennifer Brown of The Star reports that Toronto politician Paula Fletcher is agitated about bed bugs–and trying to do something about them.
She wants the health department to investigate whether they’re a health hazard:
Toronto Councillor Paula Fletcher (Ward 30, Toronto-Danforth) has received so many calls from constituents she’s asked the health department to declare them a […]

I am always on the alert for bed bugs in the media: not just the news, but television shows (like The Simpsons), movies, etc.
Here’s an oldie that’s “new to me” and probably you too: New York filmmaker Pearl Gluck’s 2004 beautiful documentary Divan is about her exploration of her Hasssidic heritage, and centers around […]

The lead story in the “News” section of today’s New York Daily News is on bed bugs. That’s good: it’s always good to see bed bugs in the news.
It’s not a particularly helpful story, however.
For starters, there are inaccuracies. Let’s start with this caption below a photo of an adult bed bug:

An anonymous emailer (well, she used a pseudonym, but even those are safe with me) pointed me to a hotel review on Tripadvisor.com.
Most of you know that travelers write reviews of hotels on Tripadvisor and also hotelchattter.com. In cases where bedbugs are encountered, this is a good way to warn others about to pay […]
