I found this press release on Room 8, a NYC politics blog.
Oddly enough, I could not find it on the NY City Council website or on Brewer’s defunct blog.

According to the Dayton Daily News, you can get bed bugs from all kinds of sources: 4-star hotels, college dorms, from your neighbors via pipes running from apartment to apartment, and from used furniture. When you’re thinking about how to avoid bed bugs, you have to realize it’s not just about you: your neighbors […]

A bed bug notice found in a building lobby in Manhattan, by our stealthy photo contributor, iPhone Interloper.
Good:
Building management admitting problem publicly, posting notice.
Notice asking for bed bug reports.
Notice reminding tenants secondhand mattresses are a no-no.
Notice is building-wide even though only one unit has apparently identified a bed bug problem.
Even guests can see the note. […]

There are probably lots of reasons why you might see an entire, enormous dumpster full of used mattresses (some looking newer than others), in front of what appears to be a residential apartment building. Whatever the cause, I am glad they were kept from the mattress resellers.

Bed bugs in Brooklyn. Well, I’d guess they were. You can never be sure. But I have lived in New York for many a year, and one did not used to find the sheer volume of mattresses one does today.
Many of them look shiny and new,
Others are streaked with bed bug pooh!
(These […]

BillingsGazette.com: “Bedbugs give shelter a challenge”
This article carries more details on the bed bug war going on in the Montana Rescue Mission men’s shelter than the one blogged last week. It is a harrowing reminder of how hard it is to get rid of bed bugs under certain circumstances.
More than a year ago, the […]

On the Today show this morning, Katie Couric Meredith Viera said, “You can’t live in New York without finding old mattresses and TVs along the curbside because people don’t know what else to do with them. But there is someone who will take them.”
Her interviewee, Chip Giller of Grist.org, suggested going to Craigslist or […]

In an article today entitled “Hard-worker sniffs out bedbugs,” from the Taranaki Daily News (New Zealand), Sharon Marris writes about bed bug dog Joni who works with Pro-Tek Systems owner John Morley in New Zealand.
We’re familiar with bed bug dogs, here at Bedbugger, but it is interesting to read of the situation in NZ.

WCBS Newsradio 880’s Catherine Cioffi reports that an eight-year-old boy in Ossining, NY zipped himself inside a mattress encasement, which got stuck. He died.
Police say the boy had been diagnosed with asthma, and the cover was the kind meant to keep out allergens [LoHud]. It was inside out and the zipper was apparently stuck […]

This article about bed bugs in North Carolina comes from South Carolina’s The State (republished from the Raleigh, NC News and Observer).
“There’s a lot of folks who don’t bother to call us. They’re embarrassed. The social connotation goes back to the early 1900s; they were associated with slummy places. And that’s not the case now,” […]
