A bed bug notice found in a building lobby in Manhattan, by our stealthy photo contributor, iPhone Interloper.
Good:
Building management admitting problem publicly, posting notice.
Notice asking for bed bug reports.
Notice reminding tenants secondhand mattresses are a no-no.
Notice is building-wide even though only one unit has apparently identified a bed bug problem.
Even guests can see the note. […]

Hawai’i: Kamehameha housing project infested with bed bugs
“Eight people share a two-bedroom apartment in Leslie’s family. . . . Recently, they had to get rid of three beds and a sofa infested by bedbugs — ‘My kids were eaten alive!’ Most of them have been sleeping on the floor until donated beds arrive, but ‘we

New York Magazine has a new bed bug story dated November 12th (print edition of 11/19), by Melissa Kirsch.
It contains lots of solid advice about not picking up curbside furniture, being wary of Craigslist finds, and searching for fecal spots and blood stains. But it also contains some advice we don’t normally […]

This article about bed bugs in North Carolina comes from South Carolina’s The State (republished from the Raleigh, NC News and Observer).
“There’s a lot of folks who don’t bother to call us. They’re embarrassed. The social connotation goes back to the early 1900s; they were associated with slummy places. And that’s not the case now,” […]

Monday’s Daily Telegraph featured a long article on bed bugs in the UK. Overall it was a typical story of the spread of bed bugs in Britain, and coming as it does from a well-respected source, it is a good thing. I was, however, disappointed in some of the information provided.
First, the journalist […]

According to Channel 12 WKRC in Cincinnati (doesn’t Howard Hesseman work there?), residents at the Hillrise Apartment building, which is owned by Cincinnati Business & Professional Women’s Retirement Living Incorporated, are suffering from various issues including bed bugs.
Calvin Merritt’s problems at Hillrise Apartments are pretty simple.
“Mostly bugs, roaches and all that…”
The “all […]

Local News 12 in Cincinnati had a new segment on bed bugs on Monday. That city has declared their bed bug epidemic to be a huge problem, and started throwing energy, time, and resources into solving it as best they can. They appear to fully understand what a difficult task that is. […]

The Times-Colonist reports that three rooms in Victoria General Hospital’s pediatrics unit were “sealed off” for bed bug treatment last week. Bed bugs were found in three separate $3000 sleeper chairs. Though the article notes they were slated for replacement anyway, that really is a large price tag.
“It’s unknown how [the bed bugs] […]

Fox19 reports “City Establishes Bed-Bug Furniture Pick-Up Procedures and Hotline.” (Hopelessnomo drew our attention to this in a comment, but I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.) Cincinnati now has a hotline people can call to have infested items picked up by garbage collectors.
Pros:
They have a hotline.
Garbage collectors know what […]

We’ve been following the bed bug situation in Cincinnati for a while.
Yesterday, Joe Wessels of the Cincinnati Post reported that city officials were forming a commission to fight the problem:
The Bedbug Remediation Commission, a five-member panel of local health, social service and elected leaders, is in the process of forming and will try […]

The Patriot Ledger of Southofboston.com (2/2008: link removed; no longer working) reports that even students’ own furniture cannot be brought into dorm rooms, say Eastern Nazarene College officials, who are trying to prevent bed bug outbreaks on campus.
That means no mattresses, no sofas at the school in Quincy, Mass. The policy only applies to […]
