What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Registration, Comments and Forum Posts

When visitors register, leave comments on the site, or post to our forums we collect the data shown in the form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection and prevent hacking.  We may email you at the email address provided in your profile for administrative purposes.

Contact forms

We use Contact Form 7 to allow you to email the site owner.  It collects the data shown in the form, and the email is transmitted to the site owner’s email.  Form submissions are not stored in the site database, and we do not use the information submitted through the form for marketing purposes.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year.

Who we share your data with

We use Google Analytics to track personal data like IP addresses, user IDs, cookies and other data for behavior profiling, but we use a plugin to anonymize this data before storage and processing begins.

We share data with advertisers Google and Doubleclick as noted above. Please read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services for more information.  Note that our settings are such that Google and Doubleclick will show only non-personalized ads to our site users in the European Economic Area.

How long we retain your data

Google Analytics Data is retained for 26 months and resets on new activity.

If you leave a comment or post to the forums, the comment or post and its metadata are retained indefinitely.

For users that register on our website, we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information (including usernames).

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments or posted to the forums, you can request that we erase any personal data we hold about you and anonymize your posts. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Visitor comments and forum posts may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
