Bed bugs at the 2010 Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade

in bed bugs

I dream of the day when people stop tagging photos of cute puppies and babies with “bed bugs” on flickr.

This isn’t one of those situations. This time the cute pups are bed bugs.

Cute Baby Animals - Bedbugs & Beyond

Bed bugs hit the Daily Squee today, in the form of a shaggy wee dog dressed as a bed bug for last Saturday’s 20th Annual Tompkins Square Holloween Dog Parade in the East Village.

Poor thing. There are little bed bugs in the bed, and it looks like s/he’s morphing into one too, looking as unhappy as Gregor Samsa.

Perhaps the headboard is labeled “Bedbugs and Beyond” in hopes that a passing fumigation expert will step in and help.

But that would be tossing out the pup with the bathwater!

The parade float actually carried three dogs dressed as bed bugs: FiFi, Gigi and Meteor. Here’s a shot showing two of them in the bed.

Gothamist said the bed bugs won a prize, though we’re not sure which prize.

For a good (if brief) view of the bed bug costume, check out the video below (at about 3:51). For non-bed bug-related fun, don’t miss the Antoine Dodson pup, Best in Show winner Gracie as Scarlet O’Hara, Queen Elizabeth, or the amazing Lady Gaga at the beginning (for safety’s sake, thankfully, she’s wearing fake meat).

Here’s a link for the feed readers, and others who can’t see the video above.

Happy Halloweeen, everybody! And if you currently have bed bugs, I really hope things are a lot less scary soon.

Fleas & ticks have been attending for years so why not a bed bug?
