Remember the Bed Bug Resources (and Public Service Announcements) Michigan was using to inform citizens about bed bugs?
Now there’s a Michigan Manual for the Prevention and Control of Bed Bugs, developed by the Michigan Department of Community Health and the Michigan Bed Bug Working Group, and you can download it here.
I have run through it fairly quickly and was impressed by the range of information and advice provided.
Bravo to Michigan for responding to this concern, which is surely plaguing many in the state.
Recent articles such as this one from a Detroit news station, about tenants battling bedbugs in the Pontiac Carriage Circle building in Pontiac, MI — article which “reassures” readers that “the building has been fumigated and ‘bug bombed'” — suggest that there is a serious lack of awareness about how to deal with this problem appropriately and effectively.
(Note: bug bombs and foggers are a bad idea where bedbugs are concerned, as the new manual makes clear.)
