New York City “Bed Bugs” by Samuel Mark

in bed bug art, bed bugs, new york city

Bed bug “infested” furniture – apparently a “gift” from Samuel Mark to Shepard Fairey, deposited in front of the latter’s May Day mural at Bowery and Houston (via Animal New York).

I bet it makes viewers more uncomfortable than Marks’ “Suspisious Package” [sic] did.

No word yet on whether the bed bugs are all superficial. Anybody want to hop on that thing and find out?!?

Spotted: bed bugs in front of the shepard fairey piece. Am ki... on Twitpic

I’m a big fan of cultural entomology and this is a cool example of such bug “art”. Although I don’t see taking it home to my collection. Actually recently someone sent me a photo of a bed bug tattoo. And a while back there was a aerosol artist in the lower east side who stenciled red bed bugs about.

Hi Winston!

Cool, huh? But yes, from a distance.

You’re thinking of Olympia’s work. I believe you first encountered it on this post (note the discussion in the comments with the artist).

We also featured one of Olympia’s artistic interventions here.

Oh, and we’d love to feature those bed bug tattoos, if you can convince your friend to share photos with us.

This is from a forum poster a few years back. Interesting…

[Editor’s note: the photo linked here has been made private by its owner on flickr and the now unworking link has been removed.]

Thanks, momof3, I DID see that. Because it’s copyrighted, I can’t blog it like some other photos on flickr, though I’d love to.
