Furniture spotlight: could your Bed Bug become infested with bed bugs?

And you didn’t think bed bugs suffered from bed bugs?

Franco Casini, an Italian entomologist and pest pro known on the Bedbugger Forums as EffeCi, draws our attention to the latest in Italian bed design:

Salone del Mobile showcases the Bed Bug bed, designed by Paola Navone for Poliform:

Bed Bug is the new bed by Paola Navone for Poliform. A collection that stands out due to its variety: sixteen different alternatives, sixteen conceptions of the bedroom that unite functions, design and sensations in very individual beds. The removable cover is available in fabric or leather

[Emphasis mine.]

It looks cozy, but the design unfortunately is not a great one if bed bugs are a possibility.
Before I get any emails from irate Italian designers, let me remind everyone that bed bugs are always a possibility, regardless of one’s location, social class, or taste in furnishings.

As EffeCi said, we may see a forum thread entitled, “Need help! my bed bug is infested by bedbugs.”

On the other hand, check out Slash sofabed by Adrien Rovero for Campeggi; Not only can you put ClimbUps under those lovely, sleek legs, but depending how big they are, at least some of those separate individual cushions might fit right into a Packtite.

Yes, I fantasize about a sofa bed on a frame like this with Packtite-able individual cushions.  I realize this probably isn’t it, but what an idea!  That, and a really big Packtite priced for the home user, would be really awesome.

I strongly suspect Mr. Rovero did not have bed bugs in mind when coming up with this design.

However, if the epidemic continues to spread, I don’t doubt bed bugs will inspire design solutions in the not-too-far-off future.

Some people “got it” 70 years ago, like Mies van der Rohe and Lily Reich’s “Barcelona” chair.

Others “don’t get it” now or “will get it” soon, like the above designer or the English company that sells a caravan called “the bed bug”.
(No link, virus scanner says the company’s site is virus infested.)

Alicia. You’ll find wisdom, compassion and camaraderie (and likely the answer to your question) in the forum. Welcome.

Hi Alicia,

This product has only been out for a few weeks, but at least one person has reported finding bed bugs after running it for two weeks.

Discussions of the product on the forums should be tagged “Bed Bug Beacon.”
