Nightline still trying to figure out what bed bugs look like

in cockroaches, not a bed bug

If you are not following the developments on the Nightline website, please read the updates on this post from yesterday. It’s now been updated twice with screenshots of the ABC team’s various attempts at including a photo of a bed bug.

They started out with a photo of dust mites, and have moved away from the concept of “things that live in your bed,” and are now displaying some sort of cockroach-like creature on yet another Nightline landing page. (Entomologists, please hit the comment button below and help us with a precise identification!)

Screenshots and details here.

Update: Having now seen the Nightline spot, the cockroach also features there — as a cockroach.

However, I know that many Nightline viewers will happen upon one or the other websites with “bed bug” headlines under a photo of dust mites or a cockroach and they simply will assume this is what bed bugs look like. We’ve seen this in the past.

hey! i watched the nightline seg and they showed real bed bugs and a thermal pcs from yonkers (which makes me happy b/c i live in the n.e. bronx).
loved listening to louis sorkin discuss whats going on, and dug seeing the puggle work. there is definitely hope and those of us lucky enough to get exterminators and attention for the issue are counting our blessings.

thanks for informing us about this nightline piece. i sent it to my parents, so they don’t think im loca for talknig about bb’s all the time!! (even though i was a lil crazy b4, this is somewhat, freaking them out )

Thanks, BronxBugged.

It is helpful to share news stories with relatives/friends who may not “get it.”

If they end up a little bit “freaked out,” that is probably healthy, compared with someone thinking, “Oh, no big deal — just call an exterminator” (which many of us have heard ad nauseum).
