Def Jam’s NYC offices allegedly closed due to bed bugs

in Def Jam, bed bugs, bed bugs at work, bed bugs in the workplace, nyc

Blogger GyantUnplugged.com claims that sources in the NYC Def Jam offices informed him their entire office (multiple floors) is currently closed due to bed bugs.

Island Def Jam appears to be located at 825 8th Avenue in New York City, the building also known as WorldWide Plaza.

Cravath, Swaine and Moore, a NYC lawfirm, also has offices in the same building, and they were said by legal bloggers Above the Law to have had bed bugs found (and bed bug treatments undertaken) on the 21st and 41st floors back in March, 2008.

We don’t know if the claim about Def Jam is true, and if it is, we don’t know if there’s any connection with the Cravath case. But bed bugs can afflict multiple offices just as they can affect neighbors in apartment buildings.

You’ll remember that multiple high-profile businesses operating out of 375 Hudson St. — namely Penguin and Saatchi and Saatchi, have also have been said to have infestations, in that case only a month apart.

And when Bill Clinton’s offices in Harlem were infested with bed bugs, an anonymous source tipped us off that they were not the only unit in the building affected.

Update (2/6):

The NY Post reported on Friday 2/5 with more on the Universal Music/Island Def Jam office infestation:

A source said, “Universal had its three floors fumigated last month. But this week, a small area of the ICM offices directly below were found to be infested, so the office was evacuated and fumigated within 24 hours. They even brought in bedbug-seeking beagles.” One source said the problem was building-wide. A Universal rep said, “We were aware of the issue and it has been resolved on our floors.” No comment from ICM.

ICM is a celebrity agency. It sounds like the bed bugs at 825 8th Ave. are getting around.
