Orkin in Vancouver has just acquired a bed bug sniffing dog.

Vancouver, meet Frankie!

Frankie was rescued from a shelter and trained for 600 hours at Florida Canine Academy (run by Bill Whitstine).

An Orkin employee wrote to Bedbugger,

For a VERY limited time our company will be offering free inspections to those in the Vancouver area that fear they have bed bugs but professionals have not been able to turn up any evidence.

It is important to note that we will not be doing inspections for people that have not yet had any pest control professionals do an inspection first.

They will need to provide proof that the pest professionals are stating that they did not find evidence. We will also only be able to do this free of charge for a limited number of people.

Just to repeat, you must have already been told by a pest control operator that you do not have bed bugs, based on an inspection.

This will surely be a good offer for some in the area. Thanks to Orkin for sharing it with us.

If you’re in Vancouver and qualify, please call the Burnaby manager at (604) 434-6641 and tell them Bedbugger sent you.

Regarding bed bugs and dogs:

How much does it cost to hire a dog to search our condo in Surrey for bed bugs? Presently we do not have problems with bed bugs. However, we did have a problem that lasted until January of 2009. Hopefully we have seen the last of them. Still, we want to be sure.

I would appreciate hearing from you soon. Next week we plan to see a contractor about replacing the rug in our living room and hallway with hardwood flooring. Therefore, I would appreciate hearing from your organization about my concern.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely yours,

Allen J. Wild

Hi Allen,

I deleted your phone numbers from your comment, as you may later wish you did not post them on the internet. IMO posting an email is not great either, but I left it so anyone reading this would be able to get in touch.

This is a blog and forum run by a former bed bug sufferer — we don’t have any ties to service providers, including canine scent detection firms in Surrey.

You may find recommendations for services in your area by posting to our Bedbugger Forums:

You may even get an idea from other users what the cost might be.

Best wishes to you!
