We heard some time ago that there was more than one bed bug monitor in development. Nightwatch is expected to ship mid-November.
But a second bed bug monitor, the CDC 3000, or Cimex Detection Case, so named because it comes cleverly packed into a portable (!) non-descript black handled case, will be launched in a limited fashion at this week’s National Pest Management Association meeting in Washington. It won’t be released on a broad scale until the new year, according to Sean of the Bed Bug Resource, who goes more into detail here on what we can expect from this second device.
You can also read more about the CDC 3000 here.
Both devices have the potential not just to detect whether you have bed bugs, but to capture them. We hope to have access to data on the CDC 3000 soon. And once the Nightwatch is released, I hope we will start to see some comparative test data.
Exciting times for Bedbuggers. Things are looking up.
Update 4/28/2009:
Here’s a video review by Jeff White of the CDC 3000:

It looks like we are finally starting to move away from a pre-1940s mentality to a 21st-century mentality when it comes to these insects.
I look forward to seeing more innovative ideas when it comes to battling these minuscule menances.
is it possible to but a Night Watch Moniter. and if so why aren’t more of us buying them?
Neither Night Watch nor CDC 3000 have shipped to consumers yet.
Not yet. See: http://bedbugger.com/forum/topic/bed-bug-monitors-release-dates
Has the Nightwatch or the CDC3000 been released? And, if so, has anyone tried it out? I’m in the middle of an infestation. We’ve tried two treatments so far, which seemed to solve the problem, but they’re back. Now, we’re having a dog come in. It would be great to have a device like Nightwatch running for a couple of weeks, to catch any stragglers. But, I don’t know if it works.
See this comment, Charles.
The CDC is currently in stock (3/19). See the red ad in the right sidebar.Updated 4/28:
The Bed Bug Shop is now out of business.
You can buy the CDC 3000 by going to the Cimex Science webite.
Added Jeff White’s video review of the product from Bed Bug Central TV.
At DoMyOwnPestControl.com they have the NightWatch Bed Bug Monitor in stock, and they will be offering the CDC 3000 hopefully within the next month.
Has anyone tried the CDC 3000 or NightWatch at home yet?? I am very interested in knowing if they are worth the money.
