HI Jennifer,

Two suggestions regarding the media: call the reporter (Keith Gerein) who did the Edmonton Journal piece linked above. He may be interested that the problem is ongoing a year later.

Second, if you can't get the regular press interested, see if a student paper will cover this.

Unfortunately, evacuating or resettling people is tricky and if not done properly, can just spread the problem. Hopefully the treatment they're getting is good and effective, and residents are being properly educated about doing their part to get rid of bed bugs and avoid picking them up again.

Bedbugs are here again, and have been for months now (at least). I moved into an infested apartment in HUB Residence at the university of alberta in May. Adjacent apartments are also confirmed to be infested. I've only just gotten another place so I can finally refocus on school (I have 50-60 bites now and am always itchy, despite spending so much of my time washing and cleaning). Treatment is ongoing. Residence should be evacuated and shut down until it proves to be clear of these vermin. Students need to stay away to not transmit the bugs or pick them up themselves. I'm shocked that nobody knows and there is no press....

<a href="http://www.canada.com/edmontonjournal/news/story.html?id=09153559-e085-467e-b755-4b1676e78f81" rel="nofollow">More in August on this story from the Edmonton Journal.</a>

Although two units were found to have bed bugs, fifteen have been treated. And even though no bed bugs were seen since the first treatment, they've had a second, and there's a third and final treatment scheduled 8/26.

It sounds like they are taking this seriously and treating it quite aggressively.

More here: whole building is being "fumigated." It sounds like they're not fumigating per se, but spraying, since they are evacuating students for 4 hours.
