"Providing a statistical snapshot of the city's services, the 311 call data was released yesterday under a new city law that mandates monthly reports about the calls from the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications."

There is a <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/24/nyregion/24data.html?_r=1&oref=slogin" rel="nofollow">law that mandates the release of monthly reports</a>, but bed bugs are not included in them.

Renee,

Sorry I wasn't clear. That was the "sort of."

What I meant was that numbers had been released by HPD, to people who'd asked, people who may or may not report them correctly or at all.

I suggest readers follow the links above to Renee's excellent post on New York vs. Bed Bugs about this issue to get full clarity on that.

The 311 bed bug stats are not available to the public. Having to depend on reporters who may or may not be interested in writing a story on bed bugs (and usually get the numbers wrong), or having to call the HPD (or the NYC Housing Authority) press office to get them yourself, and depending on your luck, very possibly not getting a call back, does not make the stats public.
