[...] As we’ve noted recently, New Jersey’s Warranty of Habitability laws currently state that landlords of buildings with three or more apartments have to pay for their tenants’ bed bug treatment. But the laws don’t prohibit landlords from passing on the costs to tenants. [...]

Annoyed,

I am not sure there are any laws that specifically address this.

Most local laws I have seen simply specify whether landlord or tenants are liable for removal of pests in the home and under which circumstances.

It may be possible to go to court and be reimbursed for these things. You'd have to seek legal assistance with that one. We have a FAQ on that.

It is also true that in very few cases, some landlords have paid for them upfront or on request. I sense this is extremely rare, almost unheard of.

But in most cases, it seems to be left to the tenant.

I actually really want to know the answer to this because my managment has not responded to my emails & message regarding compensation -

"Who’s legally responsible for reimbusement for exepenses for tenant, ie… cleaning of the apartment, dry cleaning clothes, washing all clothes in your room, purchasing new mattress, sheets, pillows, plastic bags, vacumn bags, etc..???????????"

Thank you in advance for the answer :)
