Is it possible that a trap might attract bedbugs to an area where there were no bedbugs previously?

Say I live in apt 4F. I wake up with some odd skin reactions, which are in fact sebaceous cysts - not bedbug bites, but I don't know that yet. I set up a bedbug trap.

Unknown to me, my neighbor in 3G has bedbugs which haven't spread beyond her unit yet. Is there a chance the trap could draw those bedbugs to travel across chambers into my apartment?

Bedbugs travel between apartments, but the spread isn't inevitable. I'm curious whether a trap might be so powerful an attractant that it could inadvertently precipitate the bugs' spread.

This is indeed promising. It also gives us another clue on detecting bedbugs on our own--if you vacate your place for a while, the bedbugs can be easier to detect. (I found this out when I returned from a two-week vacation. My bedbugs came marching across the floor during the day to welcome me home!)
