Milestone: 1/2 a million site visits

I am a bit quiet right now as I’ve had some back trouble and the best thing is not to sit in my computer chair! So I have some articles pending, and they will have to wait. I am logging on for brief periods to read or fix things. I’ll be on more when I am feeling better.

I did want you to know that yesterday, Sitemeter says we crossed the 500,000 site visits mark. That’s half a million separate visits to the site (not page views, which crossed a million a while back). Since 70% of the visitors on any given day have never been to the site before, that gives you some idea how many of the 500,000 are different people (most of them, in fact).

This is good news that word of the site is spreading, and bad news that bed bug information is so sought-after. However, whenever I mention the site traffic, some people inevitably misconstrue the meaning of the statistics. While they do show more people coming to the site, they don’t show the rates at which bed bugs themselves are spreading.

The fact is, it takes time for search engines to recognize websites and for them to appear high enough in rankings for people to discover them. The statistics show this is happening, increasingly. This is normal for any active website: the longer it exists, the more people will find it.

I have no doubt bed bugs are spreading, and any spread is a problem; my point is, they’re not spreading that quickly. And spreading information can only help halt the spread of the actual bed bugs.
