[...] Some folks have even taken it into their own hands to post warnings about bed bugs on Craigslist, since the company is apparently unwilling to do so itself. [...]

Someone else is currently doing this in Toronto (in the furniture ads). I don't want to link to it or it may be pulled, but I can tell you it has brought 100 people here over the weekend, and doubtless educated many more about this problem. Nice work, anonymous Toronto person.

Caution: Don't let the bed bugs bite

There is a growing bed bug problem in Toronto. Not everyone reacts to the bites so it is possible not to know there is a problem. Bugs and eggs can travel on furniture, clothing, and picture frames and can make their way from one apartment to another. The bugs are very small so once they are established they are difficult to eradicate because they can hide in very narrow spaces.

Please be careful to check items carefully when you buy them or rescue them from the curb. There may be a reason the item is being thrown out or the seller may not be aware of any problem. Infestations have nothing to do with cleanliness but there is a stigma attached to having bed bugs. People may not be willing to spraypaint "bed bugs" on that couch or mattress at the curb in front of their house.
