- Tropicana struggles to rebuild public image (note: allegations of bed bugs = bad for business)
Travel agent elucidates how bed bugs are bad for hotel business: “One of my customers requested Tropicana. Knowing what I knew, I felt I must tell them. God forbid if they got there and there were bedbugs,” (Sis Butler, sales rep., Suncoast Tours).

The Tropicana got its license renewal denied by the Casino Control Commission.
Of course, this is the type of story where there’s probably much more going on, but bed bugs added that soupçon of notoriety.
Or do you think they were the leading indictment in the press coverage?

I don’t think bed bugs are a real concern for officials.
Why do I say this?
Because after forcing the sale, they’re allowing the casino to stay open and operate as usual. This implies they think that the new management (which we assume must be imminent) will do a good job of solving problems. But it also implies that if there are bed bugs, that is something visitors will have to live with for now.
