Entoman,

Thank you.

Going by your description, this is simply appalling. A town hall meeting full of such misinformation is worse than no bed bug town hall meeting at all.

Am I surprised? Well, I suppose not. We have heard all of this before from others. I am just very disappointed in local officials. I hope entomologist Susan Jones will be able to set everyone straight.

Update from Cincinnati. The Bed Bug Towne Hall meeting was very confusing. Obviously the people on the Bed Bug Task Force did not compare notes before they presented their information. The Commissioner of Cincinnati Health Department stated you do not need a professional, you need an integrated plan that would include the use of soap and water. Another official stated temperatures of 98 degees will kill all bed bugs. Even another stated that pesticides do not work. Hamilton County Health Director said to sleep with the lights on (this would prevent bed bugs from biting). He also said to use 90% isopropyl alcohol (there are legal issues with this in Ohio). The information pamphlets that were handed out contradicted all of this and said home remedies do not work.
The only positive thing is that Susan Jones from Ohio State is on the Task Force. Dr. Jones is known for her research with termites but is starting to get into bed bugs. Hopefully she will be the voice of reason. As for Bracken County schools. The reason they closed the school was because it is Kentucky State law that a 24 hour peroid must go by before students can reenter the facility after a pesticide application. I know a gentleman who is an exterminator and was called in to inspect the childs' home. The home is heavily infested. They are treating today.I heard that New Jersey is looking to introduce legislation that landlords must have apartments certified as bed bug free before renting. This would be done by the use of heat. I spoke with a gentleman from New Hampshire who is now doing heat treatments in New Jersey. Maybe one day we will get a handle on this problem, but don't hold your breath.

This is great! I hope someone can report back with what went on at this meeting. And it's good to know that someone on the STATE level is concerned w/this silent epidemic. And other people seem to be concerned as well like Council on Aging as well as people associate w/health.

Health? But I thought that bbs are not a health issue, just a nuisance? (sarcasm here, guys!)

I would love to get a hand on the minutes of this meeting and send the document to Bloomberm, Clinton (Hillary, not Bill), Spitzer, etc. Do you think it would get passed the guards or secretaries?

NEW YORK CITY.....where the heck are you?!
