A new song about bed bugs

in art, bed bugs, bedbugs, music

This little song, courtesy of Jon Rolston’s blog My Robot Is Pregnant, and entitled “Bedbug Song,” reminds me of a bit of the Violent Femmes.

I like it. And as a bonus, it’s surprisingly informative. (I say “surprisingly,” since usually bed bug songs don’t contain any actual bed bug information.)

The lyrics include the following:

I got bedbugs
in my bedroom
sleepin’ in my bed

I’m in the kitchen
with my guitar
wishin’ they were dead

the computer
told me
they chase CO2

I’m breathing
when I’m sleeping
there’s nothing I can do

(Music and lyrics, John Rolston.)

Well, nothing you can do except get a good pest control operator to come back every 2 weeks until they’re gone. Don’t wait to schedule that appointment!

A star is … not born. But a noteworthy cultural touchstone nonetheless. I don’t hear Violent Femmes anywhere in there — except maybe after they got religious, but I had stopped listening by then. Gone, Daddy gone, the bugs are gone …

It reminds me of the style of “Waiting for the Bus.” But I would not say it was VERY like the Femmes.

James, they got religious??? I am so, so not with it. Which religion did they get?

The lead singer is very religious and he writes all the songs.
