HI Shuaib,
Bugz is right--it's a nice idea, but bed bugs don't only live in mattresses anymore. You might want to read our FAQS on bed bugs (linked at top).

Shuaib, yes, the covers will be good for those bugs in the mattress, but that's only a small part of the hiding places, although the most obvious. The covers won't stop them from hiding out in a wooden frame or headboard or anywhere else in the room unless our usual protocols are followed.

Unless of course you zip yourself into the protective covering each night, but that could be a bit cumbersome.

Pardon for bringing this back, but...
I think you'll find that bed bugs need blood to survive, not just one, but the entire infestation is dependent on warm-blooded animals, such as humans or pets. They get the blood at night, when your sleeping, and assuming you sleep with these protective covers, they simply can't get the blood they need, irrespective of where they are in the house they eventually die off, and their new-borns don't develop...

That's the point I would imagine... no food, no survival

Joe, Chysanthemum is behind a certain class of pesticides. There's no doubt in my mind the substances may be abhorrent to bed bugs. But even if it kills or repels them from the mattress, it is not enough to kill bed bugs not living on the mattress. Which is why PCO spray substances (including but not limited to chrysanthemum-derived pyrethrins or the synthetic pyrethroids) around entire homes. It is generally the case that PCOs must use multiple types of pesticides these days, one (eg pyrethrins) is not enough. And having them on the mattress, again, is not enough.

Speaking of killing things, I think this conversation is dead!

Bed bugs hate chrysanthemum. It affects their nerv0us system, causes paralysis and death. Don't believe me? You can find plenty of articles on Google Scholar on how chrysanthemum extract has been the primary ingrediant in insecticides for decades. Chrysanthemum kills and repels bed bugs, period. And that's all the more I'll have to say here.

Lemme know when the magic cure comes along...I'll at least be sleeping well in the meantime.

Yeah, Nomo, we need a little contraption that lures the bugs in with C02 and heat, to a little death trap.

Note to do-it-yourselfers: homemade versions of same have not worked thus far.

Small off topic note: one day a wise and enterprising inventor will make a nifty bedbug trap that we will all want in our homes, then we will be tender and sweet with any amateur viral marketers sent this way, promise! The bedbug business is good, just make a good product.

Nomo hit it on the head.

For anyone out there who might be reading, there is no "way to get rid of [bed bugs] without harsh pesticides or other time-consuming, invasive measures" as per the article Nomo cites.

The exception, is heat. Professionals can apply 140 F to your home for 4+ hours and kill bed bugs and eggs. The fuel currently used is not legal in NYC, and probably some other places, but I expect this method to grow in the coming months. It's expensive, but I think it is cheaper than endless rounds of pesticide warfare and the loss of stuff which can occur in the interim.

But besides heat, I am afraid you are stuck with harsh pesticides AND time-consuming and invasive measures.

And speaking of time-consuming, I am deleting the link to the seller of this, linked from the original post, since we don't want to add to their sales or page rankings. I already deleted the link in Joe's post to the other marketer. The curious can google.

Seems to me that it's not the bed bugs that are the ones feeding on our blood ... it's the blood-sucking companies.
